Excellent Garoppolo article

You know what happens when you push a player who has won 4 SBs and continuously taken team friendly deals sacrificing money for the greater good out the door? Nobody wants to play for you, a business that shows zero appreciation for their employees has the shelf life of this thread.

No one wants to play for a losing team with no future quarterback either.

If the Patriots keep winning, players will want to come here.

Revis didn't come here because Belichick was all warm and fuzzy to Lawyer Milloy, Richard Seymour, Drew Bledsoe or Wes Welker ...... or because the Patriots offered him the most money.

He came here because this is the ultimate T-E-A-M and the FIRST AND ONLY goal is to win - - -not to sing kumbaya commemoratives to QBs past their usefulness.

Tom's dad knows what you don't.

Obviously we can't expect this guy to be the next Tom Brady because Brady is the GOAT. But we'll continue to be in the championship hunt when he does take over. I'm sure of it.

I don't think it ever has been suggested that they're buddy-buddy. More like mentor-understudy. Brady is 14 years his senior. Like you, I'm interested in learning more about him.

I really can't imagine Brady playing five more seasons. Maybe three at the most. God bless him, he's an incredible player.

The "Jimmy loves him" quote of Christensen in the article was what I was referring to.

I don't know, I have always said I would wait until Brady shows real signs of decline before seriously thinking about the successor but after the Super Bowl this year he looked completely spent. It's obviously a long season and he was sick so there is clearly going to be a toll taken but that was as exhausted as I have ever seen him. He's as competitive as they get and had no desire to hang them up but if he wins another Lombardi he may well decide he's had enough in a couple of years. Either way getting Garrapolo good and ready is the right approach. Hopefully we will see an Aaron Rodgers like succession that keeps them them,in the hunt every year. We will see?
Take it for what you will but I believe I heard TB say during the lead up to the SB that this was the best he'd felt at the end of a season in a long time.

I'm still not buying that Brady and Garropolo are buddy buddy.

Hopefully, there will be some 'Behind the Scenes' stuff on the 3GTG4 or the other DVD's coming that will shed some more light.

BTW, the 'Behind the Scenes' parts of those vids are the best part to me - - we've already seen the games.

Brady has admitted he still plays like someone can take his job at any moment. He knows that's how he got his start. Most sane people think there is no way Brady would be replaced by Garropolo but I honestly believe Brady thinks there's always a chance he could be replaced if the backup plays better. He's seen it over and over again with players being let go. He doesn't want to give him or any other backup a chance to take his job. Just one of the many reasons I love #12

The players you named aren't Tom Brady they never sacrificed for the team. It is very different, you look at the players Belichick has parted with they were money pigs cared more about themselves than the team.

You think that Tom's dad would say anything different? I mean that is the answer to give so he gave it.

Good point, and you're right he did say that and I think he meant it and was referring to how beat up he usually is by that point in the year. I was referring to how he looked after the SB which I thought was as weary as I have ever seen him.

Seems like a great kid. Did anyone else notice after Bulter's interception when TB started jumping up and down in the background was Garropolo celebrating and looking for someone to hug or high five and everyone else ignored him. It was pretty funny. Similar to when everyone else leaves Brady hanging for a high-five on the sidelines sometimes.

I thought that was hilarious. Even though Garropolo didn't play in the game it still has to be cool to win a ring this early in his career. I mean he did help the team in practice and can know he played a part in helping the team. I wonder who has the most rings as a backup qb?

Anyone else see the parallel?

Montana - Brady
Young - Garoppolo

Problem is the contract situation. He would need to be extended if Brady plays out his contract. I cannot see the Patriots cutting Brady I think he has earned the right to punch his own ticket.

I like Garoppolo but he may never be a starting QB led alone Brady 2.0. Writers and guru's had the same hype for Mallett after his rookie season. I hope it pans out but right now I'm in no rush for Brady to retire.
Nobody had the same kind of praise for Mallet. Not close. Mallet never looked as good the entire time he was here as JG did in his first game.

He just looked like he has "it" from the first moment he took his first snap.

He's the single teammate with whom Brady spends the most time, and is most in a position to help. Of course Brady is doing the right things for Jimmy G in the workplace.

Anybody's job can be taken at any time.

That said, incumbency is a tie-breaker advantage -- the one who gets the reps in practice is the one who's likely to win the job on the field. What's more, the magnitude of that effect is much greater at QB than many other positions. So it's pretty unlikely that Brady's backup ever beats him out, injury situations like Bledsoe/Brady or Montanta/Young aside.

Brady is treating Grapes like Drew treated TB- with respect and as a teammate.

It has to be a slightly uneasy relationship. We all know from the Brady 6 special that Brady is hyper-competitive and in 2001 dedicated his offseason to beating Drew.

If Grapes doesn't take that same attitude, I don't want him on this team.

Something tells me that he is a pretty competitive dude in his own right.

There was plenty of praise and hype Mallett. There were articles last year during the draft that Belichick turned down a second round pick twice offered for Mallett.

Garoppolo is an interesting prospect, nothing more than that. Referring to him as Brady 2.0 when Brady is the greatest QB to ever play the game is idiotic. They both are QBs, they both play for the Patriots and they both have a pulse, that is about the only things they have in common at this time.

Do you remember all the hype and articles about James White during the preseason?

Until Garoppolo is starting and teams are game planing against him we have no idea.

Anyone else see the parallel?

Montana - Brady
Young - Gap
They're all QBs?

That is where the parallel ends. You need to take a step back look at how the Montana/Young back to back transpired. You clearly lack an understanding of you see a parallel.

Yes, there's an element of hyperbole, but if you go back and look at all the previous rookie QBs, including Brady, under Belichick, Garoppolo has arguably had the best rookie season of any of them.

I completely disagree with you there. And so does Tom's dad.

Let the Washington Redskins wallow in the idol worshipping. It leads straight to last place.

I think Brady himself believes he will play for another team after his contract runs in 2017. His dad's interviews have basically said as much. Read some one-on-one interviews of Tom explaining his plans and workout/nutrition regimen and you'll see that the level of obsession this guy has with football is all-encompassing. He will definitely not be retiring after his contract with the Pats ends.

There seems to be such articles about our backups every year. We will wait and see.
