2015 Draft Rumors

This was my last pre-Combine mock:

I don't see much reason to change it so far, except that Marpet won't last until 100. But give me Gurley at 32 (hopefully his delayed medical will keep teams from pulling the trigger) and then Hardison plus a good OL prospect (Marpet, Cann or Tomlinson), with some trading around. Then an EDGE guy like Valles (Obum Gwacham is intriguing, and I want to see how he does this week; he's a high character kid with a good work ethic) and someone like Ellis McCarthy to double up on DL, and another guard. Then look at high upside guys like Smelter, Marshall and Bell/James with the late round picks.

Honestly Mayo. This is almost the perfect mock. At least in my opinion. Man if it turned out like that I would be jumping in joy.

You are far too kind. In many cases I'm just jumping on players that Manx and others have already singled out. But I would be thrilled if things worked out this way, too.

Im really starting to think Nick marshall might be worth taking a little higher. He offers to much versatility. On top of being a great physical prospect, him sitting behind two of the best press corners in the league (Revis & Browner) could do wonders for his development. He could also act as the scout team QB when facing the more mobile QB's. All on top of it, he could act as the 3rd backup QB, which is a little unnecessary, but at the same time, nice to have.

I quess he has to throw tomorrow at the combine. Well see what thats like. Well probably have to wait till Auburns pro day to see his CB's skills.

So as a rookie you want him to not only learn the playbook of the D, but the same on O? o_O:confused:

I don't think he needs to learn the O really. He doesn't need to to run the Scout team as QB and he can learn a limited playbook if there was a sudden necessity to use him as a 3rd string QB. Don't forget, we don't carry a 3rd string QB so if ever we needed one, whoever is brought in would need to learn the playbook from scratch anyway. When Jimmy G played against Buffalo, it was clear there were remnants of the Tebow playbook remaining. Marshall could just learn that.

The more important thing for Marshall is whether he runs sub 4.6 or not (preferably sub 4.50). If he's over 4.5 I'm not that excited. Over 4.6 and I wouldn't draft him.

Thanks Manx. You know exactly what I'm talking about.
I think its important not to forget that Bill Belichick is a very creative coach, and Josh McDaniels
has a history with mobile QB's. Im sure it wouldn't be hard for MCD to whip of some funky wildcat formations, and trick plays to throw in the tool bag. I think these playoffs proved that they have some trick plays, and formations stored away for when then need them most. Why not add some more.

I think hell at least run in the 4.5 range. He looks fast on tape. At least 4.5 fast. I guess we will find out tomorrow.

If Patriots can make him the NeXT "Edelman" QB convert im fully up for it, but I really dont like the ide of getting him before late day 3.

I think he is easily worth our early 6th. I almost think he is worth our late 4th. We will have to see how he performs at the multiple scouting events over the next few months.

He did some good stuff at the Senior Bowl. If he tests well, I'd take him anywhere on day 3.

Has anyone's opinion of Gurley changed after he (& his people) refused to have his knee examined?
Even if Vereen isn't resigned, I want nothing to do with him at 32.

No. By all accounts it's not an issue at all. He's probably going to get close to 32 team visits and will get checked out by each team. His Doctor told him not to do it and teams were apparently OK with the decision.

As long as he got an MRI this week (he did) and the blood and drug tests (he did) that's a good 90% of what team doctors need to know anyways. I can't fault him for not wanting his newly reconstructed knee poked and prodded by an unfamiliar doctor. Especially since one of those combine doctors screwed up TE Tyler Kroft's ankle yesteday.

Tony Pauline noted:
As posted earlier on twitter, Rutgers tight end Tyler Kroft had his ankle injured during combine medicals. Yesterday I reported Kroft was expected to run the forty in the 4.6s despite suffering the remnants of an ankle injury suffered during the season. I’m told doctors during the medicals pulled and twisted Kroft’s ankle to test the integrity of the joint and they stretched it a bit to much. Player getting injured during combine medicals is nothing new. I remember hearing a similar story years ago on Penn State linebacker Dan Connor who had to pull out of the combine workout after straining his knee when doctors pulled and twisted his leg to test the joint. Combine workouts can be a hazard as doctors will tug and pulls leg and other joints, especially if medical history shows a prior injury. The end result could be a combine participant who leaves the medical room worse for the where.

Apparently Dr. Andrews didn't feel that it was worth the risk to have Gurley's knee manipulated 3 months after surgery. Seems like a prudent decision.

Be that as it may, drafting Gurley at 32 does nothing for me. I really really hope that he's gone
before then. Besides, I would be jaw-on-the-floor shocked if Bill takes him - or any RB - at 32.
And I understand that Gurley, completely healthy, is not just any RB, but still...

BB doesn't seem to have a problem taking guys coming off of major injuries early in the draft. Easley (1st), Gronk (2nd), etc.

Never forget that under Banner/Lombardi, the Browns spent $100,000 on a quarterback study to analyse the traits of elite quarterbacks.

The study recommended Teddy Bridgewater as the best QB in the 2014 draft.

Yet thanks to Haslem, they took Manziel anyway...

Pity the poor Brownies fans, who will be celebrating their 50th year of not being
in the NFL Championship game.

On top of it all, Dr. Andrews is a extremely renowned knee surgeon. Easily the best in the business! So many teams use him for his services, I'm sure they'll all gets a heads up directly from him I'm top of it.

Im sorry, but after watching all the rookie QB's from last years class. Id still choose Jimmy Garoppolo 100x over. He's is clearly the future! Lets just hope we can get Tom another ring, hopefully two in the next 3 years. Id hate to see him retire elsewhere! Which is what will happen in 3 years when its Jimmy's time to shine. As the season has progressed, and the great all around reports come out about Jimmy, it is clear he is not a mallet, he is the future.

I really don't think us Patriots fans have to stress out and worry about life after Tom Brady. If he continues to get better, we have a good looking future with Jimmy G.
