Re: Official 2007 Patriots Draft Thread

Harris almost seems too obvious here...Staley?

Sure enough, Staley!

The team is just a detail, right? ;)

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

I'm happy they traded down, and happy they got a next yr 1st. But to only get a 4th rounder as compensation? Not good. SF had two 3rd rounders, too -we should have gotten one of those.

That 2008 1st will likely be in the 20-24 range. They're on the rise and will finish at least at 8-8.

A little disappointed. But I can take a couple of hours off now, anyway.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

It's going to be sweet when Frank Gore's knee explodes and we end up with a top 5 pick next year.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

I'm kinda pissed about this trade. I would have rather had a 2nd this year and a 2nd next year.

But, I'll give the tam the benefit of the doubt, they have earned it. Let's see how the reat of the draft goes.

I thought for sure that they would take Harris. :(

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

'Course Boller was drafted at 19, not 28. This is a great trade into a deep draft imo.

How do you figure its a great trade when the Pats don't have a 2nd and their 3rd is at the END of the 3rd round?

This is a crappy trade considering what Dallas gave up to move up from the 4th pick in the 2nd round to the 26th spot. The 49ers should have had to give up their 3rd and 5th. at the very least.

Re: Official 2007 Patriots Draft Thread

I stand corrected.

On the upside, this draft isn't anything to write home about and next year could me much better. On the downside, you can't just keep saving up picks...eventually you have to spend them!

Gotta think the extra tradeable day 2 means they'll do some moving up later today.
They can move to the top of the third round with both 4ths and the third...Asante is still trade bait, so who can say. Time to put my mind on cruise control and wait for their next move.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

The 49ers have improved since last season, but their first round pick may still be around 15, so that should be a nice pick next year. It would like to have seen a higher pick for this year, but overall I'll take the deal.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

The odds of next years 1st rounder being better than #28 are huge - 49ers have spent alot of money but they will struggle to get to 8-8.

So I think we have traded this years #28 for next years #15 and this years 4th rounder.

Good deal I say.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

Another TE for SD?

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

I think they'll be fine. Perhaps now they can combine a couple of day two picks to move into the 3rd for a second time.

Everybody's loaded with day 2 picks. Who's going to trade down for our trash?

Do you mean move up from 91 using our two 4ths? That won't get us too far, and we also don't have a tradeable 5th.

Looks like this draft is turning into a day two fest. Now I'm glad I didn't submit my Pats top 10.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

I predict the Pats don't even bother using some of their picks. I think it's happened before.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

SF's schedule besides divisional games:

vs AFC--@ Pittsburgh, vs Baltimore, @ Cleveland, vs Cincy

Road NFC games: NYG, Atlanta, Carolina

Home NFC games: Tampa, Minnesotta, New Orleans

Bye week: 6

Obviously we don't know how each team will be, but that is not a schedule where I think they will go 10-6 or better, getting them into the mid 20's.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

****ty trade. Mostly because the Pats NEED a good MLB and waiting until round 3...Harris and Bradley will be gone. If SF wanted the deal so bad, why didn't they cough up a 3rd rounder this year? That would have been in the ball park fair.

It must have been that NE wanted out of #28 for some reason. Why, I can't fathom.

It's a kenny.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

Patriots 4th rounder from the 49ers to the raiders - Randy Moss is a Patriot.

Ok, just kidding.

You're so smart. Yep, Moss is a Pat.

We will now using our many choices and start trading up to get players we target.

SF's # 1 next year is likely in the teens and possibly a top 10. SF is really not that good and they have a tough schedule (for an NFC West team) -- Go Seattle!!

Let it play out....this will be a fine draft, they happen to know what they are doing.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

I actually like the trade. I would have loved to pick up a LB in the first, but I don't see SF getting to the NFC Championship game next year, so we should get a solid pick.

I would like us to try to bundle that new 4th rounder with something to get 2 3rd rounders this year though.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

I hate this trade. The Patriots have no 2nd round pick, do you think they are aware of this? I understand they have Welker but taking one player of the first 90 makes little sence IMO.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

maybe they can trade SF's #1 for a late second this year and take Harris and pick up another #4 this year.

Then they'll have 1 #3, 3 #4s, and 1 5th supplemental.

5 picks in rounds 3-5.

Probably trade a couple of them to move up some.
