The 2015 NFL Combine Thread

That seems like a big red flag for me. With the acl injury I totally understand him not doing any drills or athletic tests. But refusing a physical?!

Not sure if you saw this. There is a report that a doctor injured Tyler Kropf - TE- Rutgers during his physical. Kinda spooked Gurley. And, he passed

The better the tackles do, the more likely some good guard candidates slip some. Just sayin

Ah, I guess I can kinda understand Gurley not wanting the knee poked and prodded by someone unfamiliar. I just hope Gurley's refusal of the medical exam didn't extend to not getting an mri on the knee or even worse, refusing blood and drug tests.

WR bench press numbers:

- Sammie Coates: 23
- Kevin White: 23
- Devante Parker: 17
- Devin Funchess: 17
- Tre McBride: 16
- DGB: 13
- Devin Smith: 10

I am intrigue by Mycole pruitt. His numbers look similiar to hernandez but i am sure better character.

I get the feeling with all the buzz Marpet is getting he won't slip past the middle of the 2nd.

Anything can happen, but that would be pretty unprecedented.

The closest thing to Marpet was Terron Amstead in 2013, from Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Considered a late round prospect at the end of the season but reportedly very athletic - Manx was all over him way ahead of everyone else, as usual. Blew up the Shrine Game, then got a late Senior Bowl invite and acquitted himself well. Then blew up the Combine, with a 4.65 40 among other things. Even then, he lasted until #75 in the 3rd round.

Combine hype tends to lessen a bit in the 2 months up to the draft. Look at Jamie Collins, who lasted until #52.

I liked Marpet a lot coming off his Senior Bowl. But if he goes mid-2nd, then he'll just push someone else down. There are lots of good potential linemen in this draft.

Some RB bench press numbers:

- Michael Dyer: 26
- David Johnson: 25
- Ameer Abdullah: 24 (Shane Vereen had 31 reps, for comparison)
- Tevin Coleman: 22
- TJ Yeldon: 22
- Melvin Gordon: 19
- Jay Ajayi: 19
- Todd Gurley: 17
- David Cobb: 17
- Buck Allen: 11

Gurley plans to wait for the official medical re-check in April to allow teams to examine his left knee. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament November 15 -- in his first game back from a suspension handed down Oct. 9 for receiving payment for his autograph -- and surgery was performed by renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Andrews did not want teams pulling and manipulating the knee, so Gurley did not complete a full medical exam but allowed MRI exams. He did not participate in tests of torque or resistance.

Sounds reasonable. But given that he probably won't be ready to do even a limited workout for teams and that teams won't have a full medical evaluation until 2 weeks before the draft, it may possibly scare a few teams off.

I like Jesse James a lot, but that's not a popular opinion. I will say, gronkowski he is not, but he could do a nice Scott chandler impersonation.
well yeah, you arent going to find the next Gronk out there because he is an amazing player. Ideally someone like Jesse James or ant Tight End they might find would be an upgrade over Hooman, in that he would be able to catch better and block better

That is where I think bb is wanting to go with a young te, competition for hooman.

Unfortunately I did not see much out there today that might challenge hooman.

At the end of the day, Marpet is still a Div III player playing a position that tends to slip on draft day anyway. I'm confident he'll be there in the 3rd. I'm less confident he'll last to 96.

Agreed. But if 2 months from now Marpet and Hardison both project to go in the early-mid 3rd range then I'd love to trade back from 64 and trade up from 96 and get both.

@RosterWatch: 2. Time to start paying attention to Cam Erving. Every ACC DL we've talked to said he's the best OL they've faced.

Tony Pauline includes Mitch Morse (Missouri)?and Jamil Douglas on a list of people that helped themselves yesterday. The likes of Fisher, Marpet, Erving are on the list too.

He also has Maxx Williams on the list and while I don't think he necessarily helped himself, I don't think he hurt himself. He was only .04 slower than Amaro, did pretty well in all the other tests and looked outstanding in drills. Despite that first forty time, he's still a good, if not spectacularly athletic, prospect. It's exactly what we knew about him going into the combine.

Have no problems with that at all but I'd still prefer Clemmings, Erving or Fisher ahead of Marpet because of the needed Solder insurance.

I think out of all the testing, the thing that probably mattered most was his bench being so low. He doesnt blow you away with speed, so that wasnt a terribly big surprise, but if he cant hold up as an in-line blocker, that significantly lowers his value.

And yet, bench is probably the least reliable measurable for future success at the combine, so it probably means nothing.

He benched 4 less than La'el Collins. And we knew beforehand that he's someone who'll spend most of his time off the OL anyway. I only consider the bench if it's spectacularly good, spectacularly bad. As you say, I think it means nothing.
