Vereen - stay or go?

Dunno why people keep bringing that Murray number of 4m up. He was nowhere close to accepting that deal from what I've read. And yeah....thanks for the trophy Vereen but smell ya later if you're looking for 5 per. James White era has begun.

What is Trent Richardson doing these days? He fell out of favor with the Colts we all know he can run some and also catch. A change of scenery might do him some good.

Why on earth would we pay $5M for a running back that isn't a good runner, and not that great of receiver. He's basically our 4th guy on the stat sheet, but wants to be paid like the second, over Edelman and LaFell, while he produces less than then.

Because he had an excellent game in the Super Bowl and because some team will pay it. I just hope it isn't the Patriots.

I can't imagine any team paying Vereen 5 million a year, I don't even think the Raiders are that stupid lol

Yep. If someone will pay Vereen in the ball park of that good for him. I liked Shane a lot while he was here but it simply ain't happening. Not sure James White is the guy but we will need someone to take on the role of receiving back. Served us very very well with Faulk/Woodhead/Vereen.

I can't blame him for trying. He is a rb who is every bit as could as Amendola catching the ball. Now he wants to make close to Amendola money. Running backs are dime a dozen but 3rd down backs are not. The Saints crumbled when they lost Sproles and the same happened to the Chargers when Woodhead went down. Either one of those teams might reach and pay his asking price.

We definitely won't pay that much for him but his demands just don't seem that ridiculous to me. It is looking more and more likely that we are going to draft a rb this year.

What on God's green earth has given you that impression?

As for Vereen...I'm a big fan and would love to have him back. But it certainly won't be at that price point.

I'm hoping for 5 million a year too, I don't think neither me nor Vereen are going to get it!

I hope that the Pats can find a way to being back Vereen, he is a vital part of the Pats offense and just once I would love to see Brady start the year with a group of receivers that he doesn't have to teach the offense to! Vereen should also keep in mind, while he is shopping around that he made an extra $180,000 this year in playoff money. Hopefully the Pats can give him a decent signing bonus and keep his cap number @3 mil.

well the team is paying arrington 4M/yr, so maybe to vereen and his agent, 5M isn't that crazy a number, but we know the pats won't pay that.

5M for two years is about right.

Marshawn and Murray are going to struggle getting what they want - I don't think anyone is paying Vereen 5M yearly. Great for him if he can find someone to do that. I'd love for Vereen to return, but at that number I'm curious to see what White has to offer.

The Unicorn believers think Ben Vereen is coming back.
Someone is gonna pay him big bucks after his fine season and sick SB performance against the SeaHags.
I hope he gets well north of $3.5M.
A young RB player on his 1st and perhaps only shot at life money should take it.
Thank you for your service! You'll always be welcomed as a Patriot.

john elway will pay him 5mil to replace welker . He has a thing to sign pats players and call arms race.

We sign Thomas and we call it a draw

The same agent that got Welker run out of town due to unrealistic demands is going to do the same with Vereen. Guess the Pats might as well start working on that Solder replacement if Dunn is going to do this with all of his free agents.

I understand that everyone would like Vereen to sign for $2M (or $2.5M at true most) to play for the patriots.

I think folks should understand that Vereen's agent works for Vereen and not the patriots.

I don't know what I would float as a starting number for a contract to sign with the patriots, rather go to free agency. Many of us have floated a FINAL contract to Vereen of $3.5M. If Vereen is going to get $3.5M to $4M on the open market (or from the patriots), then surely his agent shouldn't be floating that number as a beginning point.

$4M or so might be more than Vereen is worth to us by $1M. It is NOT reasonable to then presume that another team would be bankrupting their future by paying that extra $1M (or even 2) or cap space. For some team with lots of cap space, Vereen might be worth $4M or even more .

AAV's FOR COMPARISON
Spliller $5.1M
Sproules 3.5M
Brown 3.5M
Greene 3.3M

Perhaps, you don't think that Vereen is as valuable as any of these to any team that might want Vereen's services. Certainly, it is reasonable for his agent to think that he might get that kind of money,

The Welker demands were by no means unreasonable.

Arrington is the best slot CB in the league. Arrington was GREAT all season except for the SB.
Vereen was very good too dont get me wrong but the SB performance is once in a blue moon.

The Welker demands were by no means unreasonable.
Was there any other team willing to pay Welker what he was requesting from the Patriots?

I don't put anything dumb past the Raiders.

I would guess he goes to Houston or Cleveland if he leaves in FA.

Sounds like Denver may try to call him up, just my guess.

First, that's not how a reasonable person defines reasonable.

Second, apparently the Titans were willing to meet Welker's price, but he didn't want play there.
