2/18/2015: Schefter Blows Up ESPN's Earlier Story

What I don't get is if ESPN and the NFL want for this so badly to go away, then why do stories like the McNally one keep emerging? Why keep leaking crap and blowing it up if you want this all to go away?

There is another school of thought that you let the damaging information slip out bit by bit to get it into the public awareness and give the public time to get desensitized to it.

Then when the investigation is concluded and all the findings are reported then the NFL doesn't look as bad as they did previously since this is all "old news".

That's like….the theory of allergy shots as applied to damaging information.

Seems reasonable to me from a human nature standpoint. If no one longer cares to report about it, did it really happen?

On a side, off topic note, why do the radio stations let Steve from Fall River on their shows? I just heard him on the radio and of course he took the stance of "of course the Pats deflated footballs and Belichick's press conference was a great piece of acting and the Pats fans will ignore the obvious that the Pats did something devious because there is no video of it".

Of course he doesn't believe it, but that is just the character he created. He wants to be the contrarian who can come on and rile up the Pats fans and become a local celebrity. His act is way too transparent and stupid. I don't get why they let guys like him on the air.
You just hit on one of my pet peeves about talk radio, Rob. Every talk show actually only has time to allow maybe 15-20 callers, and that's on a good day. The problem is about half those callers are the same people every day. Steve from Fall River is a perfect example. This is like a second job for him (or maybe his first).

I used to be an avid listener of PFW in progress at Patriots.com. But now that they added phone calls, its the same 10 guys they let on all the time. Now I just listen to the podcasts, because I can skip over the call ins. In the end Steve from Fall River is just like Minihan, he has a role to play in the "dramatic entertainment" of these shows. His role is to stir the pot, so the host doesn't have to. I bet he doesn't call into Felger and Mazz much because they don't need anymore "pot stirrers" ;)

... Unfortunately most Americans can't deal with anything more than black and white issues. Anything entering the gray sphere or requires some complexity gets marginalized

Just a thought.

You think? People want black and white because it's easy. My favorite thing with this whole pressure outside of specification ordeal is that people blow off science. The relationship between pressure, volume and temperature have been known and studied for almost 400 years. Yet listening to some idiots just push that aside is almost comical. Like it's some kind of sketchy science. Then you get TV scientists like degrasse tyson getting it wrong and you wonder how Joe six pack could even begin to understand it. Finally, the pressure measurements given by a $20 gauge are an APPROXIMATION of the actual pressure.

This post is perfect.

The answer is simple.
Because you and other like minded LISTEN to their shows.
You also go elsewhere and post about it so that others who prefer to feast on outrage also listen.
Next question...

Do we get a First or Second Round Draft pick when it's all said and done? If we were foud guilty one would be taken away so I see no reason for us not to get some compensation in return if we are found
innocent. I hope Kraft and BB are looking into this.:):)

Wait. are you calling me like-minded or simple-minded?

Hanlon's Law: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

..especially the greedy, ratings-driven, sensationalist kind of stupidity.

OMG, try decaf and shut your cakehole.

ESPN sucks. The network undoubtedly has an agenda against the Pats.

M&M had an opinion, and a mild one. They said they couldn't tell the difference between the balls, that it didn't change the outcome, no talk about tainted victories or losing rings ... and you're clutching your pearls over the fact that they're not talking about an unsubstantiated report by a colleague that contradicts another unsubstantiated report by another colleague. Still, it was on the crawl the entire morning.

But if you have an ax to grind against those two, you must want to punch nearly everyone else. Hence, my "demonize everyone" statement.

You want to know why ESPN does this stuff? Look in a mirror.
You're damned presumptuous and opinionated about someone you've never met nor spoken with. You want to know why people here justifiably hate ESPN? Look in a mirror.

First off, you've turned around my sentence in a way that makes no sense.

Secondly, I'm not presuming anything about you. I'm commenting on the fact that you've worked yourself up into a lather over a show not talking about something which will embarrass them, yet can't stop watching. ESPN does that on purpose, because of viewers like you.

Thirdly, don't condescend and you won't be condescended to.

Now, if we both have it out of our system, we can move forward.

The way I understand it, the NFL as a league wants this to go away. But there appears to be one or more people, either in the NFL offices or working for various teams, who don't. Clearly ESPN doesn't.

Not buying this.
It's obvious what's going on in the league office with the leaks, etc. so were THE LEAGUE (i.e. Goodlell and/or the BOD owners) to really want this to go he could simply have done a "re-organization" weeks ago where a few folks left to pursue other interests, spend more time with the family, etc.

Has the final report been issued yet? No? Still not interested then. Can we move this to the Deflategate forum until Wells finalizes his report?

No.

The other forum was established at the time because there was a big game coming up in the near future.

The next regular season game is now Thursday night September 10th.

There are now over 500 posts in this thread from over 50 posters. There is alot of interest in this subject.........much more than which Central Florida guy is running a 4.5 at the combine.

But there are threads and forums for that too.

Just taking this to local radio for a minute.....

This guy Benz is probably not long for the 10-2 gig.
