How does Roger Goodell go?

I continue to hear that Kraft is (or at least was) Roger's biggest "and most powerful" supporter.
Can anyone explain this?

This is one of those things that has been repeated so often that it is now accepted as a universal truth.

Reality is a bit different.

When the NFL was looking for a new commissioner, Kraft not only did not back Goodell; he opposed him. Kraft wanted Robert Reynolds to be the new commish. Reynolds is from Concord and the COO of Fidelity. Kraft - being the conciliatory type of person that he is - only begrudgingly backed off from Reynolds when it became obvious that his man had no shot at taking over for Tagliabue. That was followed with a backing of Goodell in order to provide a united front to the public. But the fact remains that Kraft did not want Goodell, and he was the last holdout before Goodell became commissioner.

Now things like Kraft being on the broadcast committee or Kraft and Goodell meeting together are construed as them being BFF. That's simply not the case.

It's just a falsehood that has been repeated so often that the most people accept it as fact.

The NFL clubs have agreed to a new contract with Roger Goodell that extends his term as commissioner through the 2018 season, the NFL confirmed today.

The announcement was made by Atlanta Falcons Owner and Chairman Arthur M. Blank, who serves as chairman of the NFL Compensation Committee.

NFL clubs unanimously approved a resolution at a December 14 league meeting in Dallas that said, “The commissioner has performed his duties in an exemplary fashion since his election in 2006 and the membership has determined that the interests of the NFL would be best served by a continuation of the commissioner’s employment beyond the terms of his current employment contract.” The resolution authorized the Compensation Committee to complete negotiations on a new contract, the third of Goodell’s tenure as commissioner. His original five-year contract was extended in 2009. The new contract continues until March 31, 2019.

Other members of the Compensation Committee are Tom Benson (New Orleans), Pat Bowlen (Denver), Robert Kraft (New England), Jerry Richardson (Carolina), and Steve Ross (Miami).

He asked how it will be, not how it should be. :)
BTW, Saints fans are still upset by the mishandling of Bountygate. (Yes, mishandling. The previous commissioner admonished him for how he handled it.)

If Goodell goes what would it take to get Tagliablue, or another temp commissioner to review CameraplacementGate and impose a more fitting punishment and give us back our #1 pick?

I don't really understand the internal politics of the NFL, so I'm hoping someone who knows more can offer those of us who don't some kind of enlightenment. How is one ousted? I don't know of it ever happening before.

Strangely, the answer is NOT that Goodell is ousted when the majority of message board posters want him out. Goodell serves at the pleasure of the owners. As someone posted, it take a 2/3 vote to kick him out, but if the majority really opposed his actions, he would probably be gone.

The bottom line, is that patriots posters have been saying this for years. IMHO, as long as the owners are making lots and lots of money, Goodell will stay.

I don't know if the owners will take any action, but Goodell's reception by the crowd at the draft should be brutal. He would get more boos than cheers when he would be introduced in New York, but I don't think it will be as mixed in Chicago this year. And Goodell will deserve all the boos and negative chants that come his way.

The reason why Goodell must go is that i don't know anyone who supports him.

I think a no-confidence vote by the owners but likely only after the one proposing it knows he has the 2/3 majority to oust......

Question: how does one get tickets to the draft? Might a larger than norma contingent of Pats fans be possible?

I don't recall any other NFL commissioner getting booed, ever.

At the end of the Super Bowl when Roger was up on the podium, I was yelling " F^&* you Roger" at the top of my lungs and I wasn't the only one...It was cathartic.........
