2/18/2015: Schefter Blows Up ESPN's Earlier Story

Well the dude called WEEI so it's a real statement...I guess.

Why did the NFLRA release the equivalent of an elementary newspaper's press release?
He was in a rush, he had to install the new AOL disk he got in the mail. It took me about 5 years to convince my mom that AOL is not the Internet. He didn't get the memo.

Driving home from a poker tournament and boy I'm tired of making it to the final table (5 times in a row)and not winning. But on the way home they first reported the Ref's association press release. You know, my first thought was, "Damned., THAT's how you handle those mediots when they make it up as they go along. " No waiting for investigations or letting the dust settle. Just flat out deny and demand. a total apology

Now Adam's entire report becomes suspect. Maybe some of it is true, ,but which part. Anyway once again we experience two steps forward, one step back in this whole agonizing mess. The league still looks like the 3 stooges, and ESPN looks even worse.

.....And for Pats fans, while it now isn't the home run we hoped for, it WAS a double, and the heart of the order is coming up to bat.

It's just words.

NFL employee v. NFL official is all this is. ESPN has already fixed it on its crawl.

Why on earth does it "become suspect"? Schefter used the terms "League employee" and "League official" interchangeably, referring to the people in question. I for one never interpreted that as meaning an on-field game official. Especially given that "league employee" was used.

But what about the apologies, if anyone deserves it it is the NFLRA not they guy they posted the name, address and photo of :)

I hope that's all it was. BTW did you find that link?

I never did either but it didn't stop me from trolling Twitter that way. I want to make this as ugly as possible for the NFL etc... They ruined a week of my life I want some payback.

Indeed. Now that may change how people see the report but it does not mean Schefter is suspect. He did not say "referee".

"The unapproved kicking ball that sources told "Outside the Lines" that a Gillette Stadium officials' locker room attendant tried to introduce into the AFC Championship Game was handed to the man by an NFL employee, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday."

Maybe the 3-Stooges at the league offices could clear some of this up for the referees by telling us who was fired....

Apparently they are run by some guy with an AOL address who doesn't see an issue putting his home phone on a release that will go nationwide.

Doesn't he know there are hundreds of people on the Internet? But I'm sure nobody would ever get mad and be crazy enough to call a referee. Everybody loves those guys./sarc

What an idiot.

More credible than Schefter apparently...

Exactly. Anyone who wants to actually READ that statement can see on the bottom of it it states that the NFLRA represents the 118 GAME officials and 17 REPLAY officials.

So yes, no guy who wears a black and white striped uniform was fired. No one thought that anyhow. It was patently obvious that the people in question were NFL officials (i.e. employees who were there on official business).

The NFLRA is trying to get their name in lights by arguing a strawman.
