Not sure how many noted this fantastic piece by Hurley on cbs (Feb 12):

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2015/02/...spygate-accusations-very-differently-in-2006/

My fav is his comparison of the BSPN's resident moron Clayton's opinions when it came to the Dolphins stealing signals vs. Patriots 'spying'.

A well written article that should be mandatory reading for everyone who works for ESPN. John Clayton should be made to publically explain the reason for the discrepancy in his 2 columns.

The truth is clear (this writer did a good job of plainly setting it out) that the Pats have NEVER cheated. You should link this story to the rest of the country, NYC or what every you young kids do with your social media crap. ;)

Clayton is a hack.....how he ever got a sports writing job is beyond comprehension. Mel Kiper is another....... A lot of the posters here can do as good a job...especially regarding the draft.....

He actually came to fame when he tried to bust the steelers for having a not authorized padded practice when he was a fill in for another reporter in the 70's. He got ran out of Pittsburgh, but never stopped being a muckraker.

Aaah Ken, wish I was active in the social media.

I am very very old school.

And nope, I am not going to correct... err...comment on your assumption that I am a kid. :D

That "hack" is in the writers' wing of the Football Hall of Fame. Tells you how selective they are.

lolz, how did the fins get away with that again? I heard they bought our audibles online or something somehow. Seemed to have a pretty big effect on that game. Could have hosted Indy in the playoffs. Oh well, good chance we would have lost anyways. Miami is always a tough place to play. ****ing Jason Taylor.

My first response is "they hate us, because they ain't us"...

But the more I see and watch, the media is trying quite hard to become the news, rather than report the news... I do think the Pats made a strategical error when "spygate" happened, they did not confront it head on instead tried to ignore it, but it never went away, the media got confused..

Compare to the most recent event, where it was confronted head on logically and coherently..

How does John Clayton, have any NFL credibility???

I've always been proud of how our team dealt with this stuff. We didn't cry about it to the media or make a big deal about how other teams cheated. When the Dolphins pulled out the Wildcat out of nowhere, we didn't cry about how we were confused and how it was deceiving afterwards.

And if the Chiefs had been accused of the deflated balls thing after demolishing us, our response would have been "It didn't matter, they executed better than us, we need to play/coach better." Or it would have been "We're onto Cincinnati." We wouldn't have cried and cried and cried and cried and cried every year after (Kurt Warner, I'm looking at you as I type this).

BTW, an overlooked bit in that article was Brady's response to the trash-talking Dolphins so proud of how they "figured" us out from that tape.

“They can say that [they figured out the calls via videotape], but I think that is a big crock of you know what,” Brady said at the time. “I think it’s a matter of how we played. If you ask them, it probably sounds good for them to say that they have it all figured out. But, you know, they’re 6-7 and we’re 9-4, so you tell me who’s got it more figured out.”
I love Tom. He's the best.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the Ravens acquired a similar tape to the one the Dolphins used. (?) This is important since Ray Lewis has been acting like an ass recently.

Gotta say I'm becoming a big fan of Micheal Hurley I think he is a good reporter.

A couple of weeks ago, Hurley wrote an article about the media's (specifically Bob Kravitz and Gregg Doyell) overreaction to the aftermath of the AFCCG. It included a satirical section where he rewrote Kravitz and Doyel's arguments, but replaced Kraft, Belichick, and Brady with Irsay, Grigson, and Pagano. It was obvious that he was poking fun at their serious demands for suspensions and disqualifications with similar punishments for the Colts leadership.

Today, Doyel wrote an article (not going to link to that) where he treated Hurley's parody as if it was serious work and he was offended by it. It's pretty funny that Doyel makes these outrageous claims, gets mocked for it (in a non-insulting, non-offensive way), and he can't deal with it.

Can someone provide an explanation of why the vast majority of intelligent and educated sports fans think "spygate" is scandalous. Dan Patrick, who doesn't hide behind sponsors, thinks BB legacy is tainted by Spygate (not interested in Patrick jabs). Taping signals is legal. Why do people treat the Patriots with malice while ignoring Denver's salary cap episode (which is vastly more of a competitive advantage?).
