Scar going to the combine

Awesome if he has agreed to take on a "consultant" type role for BB.. I'm sure with his type of pedigree and knowledge of the game its a terrible thing to "step away" completely... this would allow him to stay engaged and involved.. I love it.

As long as he leaves the coaching of the o-line to Degugliermo, I am fine with that.

We have had good success for the most part drafting linemen and I assume Scar was involved in much of that. This is a good thing.

I don't think that'll be a problem.

Yeah, I'm not sure why that would be a concern in any way. You might as well hope that Scar doesn't molest any of the prospects as well.

I thought Scar left on not the greatest of terms with the team? Or maybe that was Pepper Johnson. Probably Pepper.

I'm stoked for the offensive line prospects Scar scouts. He's done a great job coaching the line for so long. It's been plug and chug since Damian Woody was under center in a Pats uniform. The man has talent.

I guess retirement wasn't as fun as it sounded. Glad he'll be scouting prospects for us!

I don't want scar to be a coaching consultant for the team. If they want him to scout then fine. Gug has proven he is better.

I think this is highly debatable. I love what Gugs did this year, but Dante has been an OL coach for several decades, thought highly enough that three separate head coaches kept him around when they could have easily brought in their own guy. Scar was a GREAT OL coach who, by the way, helped us win three super bowls. Let's not diminish what the guy has done.

He has? And was Scar a consultant last year? If not, why would he be now? If so, why would continuing that be a problem?

I made a joke of it, but you are manufacturing a concern out of thin air here.

Just like Hightower has proven he's better than Willie Mac.

Of the two, it was Pepper that you were probably thinking of. There was a day or two of speculation by fans about Scar leaving, but it was quickly found out that the Patriots and Scar had been known about Scar's planned retirement for a year or so.

Pepper said:
“I could never have asked for a better coach/boss/friend in those 26 years,” he said of Belichick. “Thanks for always supporting me and I know Bill will continue to support me no matter what.

“Thank you New England Patriot fans; I will miss you the most.”

Belichick said:
I am proud and honored to have spent more years of my career with Pepper Johnson than any other player or coach. Of all the people I coached or worked with, nobody has more passion and love for the game than Pepper. His energy and wisdom for football knows no limits. Pepper made me a better coach and person and helped create some of the greatest moments of my career. He is a great player, coach and lifelong friend and I am sure he will enjoy continued success as he moves forward.[/quote

Pepper touches on why he left the Patriots on a Bills radio show.

We don't need to needlessly disparage Scar (yesterday's hero) to acknowledge Googe's fine job this year.
As someone retired, I can easily believe that Scar is in a really good place doing the relatively light lifting task of a scouting advisor vs the grind of a position coach. Should be fun for him and productive for the NEP.

Scar better be getting a ring for helping us pick Stork.

I highly doubt that Scar only helps evaluate OL talent ...

Same here. I was particularly hoping that one or more old warhorses -- with Scar at the top of the list -- would pitch in this offseason since the coaches had happily been so busy with current games.

Similarly, I hope Scott O'Brien -- who interesting said he was retiring only from coaching -- remains involved, and in particular stays involved at least until this year's draft.

Would be nice to get Stork the sequel..

Both Scar and O'Brian are old salts who clearly know BB and what the team looks for in qualities from draft prospects. Intelligence, toughness, etc. Scar has no motivation other than to tell BB and the entire FO and scouting org what he thinks of a player.Looks like Scar was high on Stork and while I'm sure that wasn't the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, with his track record, his opinion carries significant weight.
