Revis Contract disagreement?.....

This is the new era media at its best. Someone (Florio) writes an article with no sources, which is just his opinion, though he has no facts to back it up. Then another source picks up the article and writes "Report: ..." as though you can actually trace it to a legitimate source at some point, even though you can't.

The literary equivalent of money laundering. Once it gets through enough channels, it's impossible to tell where the story came from.

Florio is quickly becoming my least favorite "Reporter" ... he has proliferated this "TMZ" mentality of reporting pro sports.. I actually used to keep his site on my "favorites" bar because it was a great way to view NFL news in aggregate... but now its become a gossip blog (maybe it always was tbh).

My recommendation: Ignore media outlets like ESPN, WEEI, and the Boston Globe.

There's no "disagreement" about Revis contract. Both Revis and Jonathan Kraft knew exactly what the contract meant. In fact, any damn fool can understand the thinking behind the contract. Unfortunately, media reports don't rise to the level of any damn fool.

I've considered Florio a ****bag from the very first interaction. Maybe I'm remarkably prescient or maybe he's just always been a ****bag. I'd lean toward the latter. :)

DO NOT give this article any credence.
Florio wrote that Kraft called it a 'placeholder' (which by the way Florio doesn't even define) and Florio says:

Revis, who hasn’t commented on his situation, would describe it differently.

In other words, he just made up a column about what he thinks Revis thinks while Revis has made absolutely no comment on the matter.

This article says there's a dispute concerning the second year of the Revis contract. While I understand Revis position, I do not get exactly what Jonathan Kraft means when he says "it’s a placeholder." Does that mean he'd exercise the option and force Revis to play. I don't get how the two sides disagree.

If they want to pay him 20m yes they can force him to play. A contract obliges both parties even if it is to play for such a tiny salary... LOL

It was only a matter of time before this type of story appeared. Frankly, I'm surprised it wasn't published the morning after the SB.

Just to be clear people: The Patriots view Revis' 2nd year as a 'placeholder', implying it's just there to help juggle some numbers and thus they do not expect it to be in use next season; whereas Revis, in a stark contrast, views the 2nd year as simply there to help the Patriots juggle some numbers and thus he does not expect it to be in use next season. See the disagreement now? Thanks Florio.

With the current cap situation, I don't see the Pats committing $25M to one player. So there is a high probability they don't pick up the 2nd year, which means the contract in reality was a 1 year deal like most people thought it would be. To conclude, there is no story.

Holy ****! So you are saying the Patriots are holding Darelle in place by chaining him up in the bowels of Gillette?

Now I see why he's so upset.

It all makes sense that Revis would be pissed. You just have to accept that the Patriots used erasable ink for the contract, then changed the option date after Revis signed it, and that the NFL then allowed the revised contract, and imposed a gag order, over Revis' strident objections.

You know.. When you read that article it says pretty much "The Patriots view the 2nd year as a placeholder".

Also it said "Revis viewed the contract as a 1 year deal where at the end he would sign a new deal with someone".

So they both agree that this contract is a 1 year deal. They both know Revis is getting a new contract this year from someone (probably us if we give him a fair one).

What is the supposed disagreement about? They both are indicating the same exact thing.

I honestly don't believe there is a person associated with the NFL - player, media, front office, coaches, league office, anyone - with a lower moral code than Florio. And, given both recent and past histories, that covers some freaking territory. What a slimeball...
