Patriots need to keep Revis, even if it means picking up year 2

Even after Curran went on TV and said "staring contest". I enjoy Curran but when was the last time he or anyone in the Boston media were give info on negotiations? Hell Barstool Sports had the LaFell and Browner signings before any other local reporter did.

Frustrating innit?

You know what makes it worse? We know more as a fanbase than other fanbases, solely because Miguel gives us so much to work with. I just got "off-season disease," which consists of going down the list of various players and resisting the urge to go into everybody's individual documentation because, damn.

Forget the level of knowledge I do not have, I'm amazed at the level of work the Cap page represents (that I would not do even if I had the knowledge to do it.)

Yet ultimately, on any of these deals, we only know once we know. Grrrr.

How about this: I want everybody back that I like even a little bit, some other ones who unbeknownst to me are silent keys to victories, and a zillion free agents who far surpass their market value. Also I want everybody to play for less than they're worth, and I want somebody to inexplicably trade a very high draft pick to the Pats in such a way as to get about half the value that the value charts represent.

Also, Brady should play into his 50s and get better every year.

I'm not being sarcastic, that's what I really want. I guess it's nice to know the one thing we can know, that we can't get everything that we want. Something will shock us. Somebody will scream "terrible call!" when their binky is gone or their FA binky is not pursued (Lots of people, actually). Legions of draftniks will scream "REACH!" at every Pats pick, and will recite the other names still on the board. Garments will be rent, and hair will be torn; There will be weeping and lamentation.

Hope we keep Revis. I mean, unless we don't :)

I agree.

There is plenty of time to make decisions and sign deals with everyone Belichick chooses to sign. Many of the deals may already be done, with announcements coming in the next three weeks.

This could be true. Since we have the greatest HC in BB I guess we can't complain too much if as part of the package he gets a sadistic thrill at keeping the fans in perpetual darkness, like mushrooms.

It could be worse, he could have Rex Ryan's foot fetish.

Or the combo-pack; Rex Ryan's foot fetish with toenail fungus.

Following the Pats for so long it's easy to forget that we're "in the dark." We're used to it.

I'm trying to think about how many things other teams let slip in such situations. Maybe it's the nature of the beast.

Mike G said today all quiet on this front as pats got a late start due to SB stuff but expects it to heat up quick because everything revolves around his #

Yeah, I would think that the McCourty possibility of being tagged would directly go hand in hand with the Revis negotiations--for sure.

With already being 4m or so in the hole, DMcC would cost another 9.5m or so to tag, so any 2015 cap savings from Revis would be used on that situation alone.

Maybe they should pay his 12m then trade him to the highest bidder. Basically get a player or two and some draft picks for 12m.

They could net 10m in cap room from Wilfork mayo etc should be enough.

Just saw a Florio article claiming that Revis thought this would be a one year deal. Not even any sources. He couldn't even bother listing "sources close to Revis". Total BS.

The angle is that the Patriots are going back on their promise to release him. Not such a good read if you are looking for facts, sources, truth, or reason. A typical Florio piece.

Pay no attention to hack florio. Just his frustrations boiling over so he's gotta drum up some negative Pats piece

I don't believe the Pats should even consider keeping Revis for the year 2 money......no corner is worth that money

if the Pats keep him, they will not be able to keep other guys that helped them win the SB.....they will not win the SB with Revis on the team for a 25M cap hit.

I don't know what the problem is, Florio is simply utilizing his mind reading abilities as his source. That's just good solid journalism.

If Patriots dont sign him long term by the end of this week. Cut him and let him go to Oakland to get his big money. Once they stop negotiating with him, they will have cap space to sign mccourty, ghost, and any of our own. Go after Flowers, draft another CB. GET A PASS RUSHER that would help with what our secondary will look like without revis. We all know what it looks like, but not worth spending 25 mil on a CB. Take the 5 mil loss and move on! I would love to have Revis back, but only long term.

I think the truth was that it's much more likely that both sides agreed to the 2 year deal, with both sides realizing that it was basically only a real one-year deal.

That way it benefited Revis (no chance of being tagged), while also allowing the Pats to spread the money over the second year.

This would only work if he were traded before April 1st. Otherwise the $12M counts against our cap. Even then, who would trade anything for the right to pay Revis $20M for his 2015 services?

Can the pats offer 15 mil? I just have a hard time revis turning it down. It depends how much of it is guarantee. If they lose revis then they better upgrade that defensive line.
