Browns "legally" tampering

Very slick but like the article says it's not illegal because the guy isn't officially employed by the Browns yet.

To your point about the Pats I 100% agree if we did this the espn hosts would crap their pants, Jerry Rice would continue his Pats twitter war, the ravens and colts would claim the Pats somehow did it to them causing them to lose and Mark Brunell would be crying while blaming Tom Brady.

Well the Jets pick before them ... so they may be wasting their time unless they move up.

I find it difficult to get worked up over the illegality of something that's not illegal. It reminds me of the whining some people did when they Josh McDaniels re-joined the Patriots.

A lot of illegal tampering goes on behind the scenes anyways so it barely matters. Just annoying that nobody cares unless its the Pats. And other teams have lost picks for tampering while the Jets were caught red handed on camera and nothing happens.

I hope nobody much cares about this. If they do, someone will wind up slinging mud because the "offender" is an ex-Patriot.

I see no problem with this. He isn't employed by the Browns so there is no wrongdoing, but I agree with you that the Pats would face a ton of backlash if they were the organization doing this.

who cares its a none story and the browns don't pick until #12 so unless they want to give up both #1's for him they wont even get a shot

Yeah, I don't see the point here... The guy is a lock to go top 5, so I don't know what other teams are worked up over. They barely have a chance of even being able to pick the guy.

I was wondering what Kevin O'Connell was up to these days. Good luck to him in Cleveland.

I am over it. NFL and 90% of fans hate us. So be it. We win..they don't

Florio is trying the replicate the "success" of today's media, not to report the news, but to become the news... when that fails try to create controversy by quoting an unnamed source who says we should be pyssed off..

Can't wait to find out how Belichick fits into all this.

This is what will give this story some legs. "Did The Browns Begin This Practice Under Belichick?" "Is the League Investigating A Legacy of Browns' Cheating?" Etc.

I'm beginning to think that Belichick is more responsible for the employment of journalists than football players. How much money is being made in the Belimedia industry?

Are we going to have a thread for every legal, arguably borderline, move that occurs in the NFL?

Probably most of the ones that are borderline. People are trying to reduce our joy by implying that it is somehow unworthy. We are a persecuted group, and we feel them all with a sense of injury and injustice.

This isn't tampering. First it isn't anything because the guy is not employed by the Browns. You cannot restrict what a coach can do because of the rumor of a new job.
More importantly, tampering is when you contact a player, directly or indirectly to inform him of your interest in him as a player, which is not allowed, because it interferes with his teams right to negotiate with him unfettered.
The league believes, correct so, that when you have a player under contract, other teams may not communicate with him (directly or indirectly) so that it affects your exclusive right to negotiate.
People downplaying the Revis tampering do not understand that the purpose of the rule is to prevent exactly what happened, allowing the player to know what options are available with other teams than the one that has exclusive rights. If the Patriots have to pay $50,000 more or $10,000,000 more, even if they retain him because the Jets owner essentially made an offer through a press conference, that is EXACTLY the consequence the rule is there to prevent.
Hiring a QB coach who works with college QBs and waiting until after he has worked with them is not a violation of anything.

This is exactly why I think the Jets shouldn't be allowed to acquire Revis for one year. People have told me that it's just hurting Revis by limiting his options but why would you be punished for "cheating" and allowed to reap the rewards? I know illegal tampering happens all the time behind the scenes (not a big deal imo if it's not during the season) and I'm sure we've done it but if you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar you gotta pay the price.

Give the poor Browns any advantage possible. Change the rules to allow just them to field 15 people on the field at a time. I doubt it would be enough.

The poor Browns already used a first round pick on a QB last year.

What an advantage the Patriots have in the draft. Other teams will have to pray that their picks make substantive, transformational improvements to their squad. Patriots will draft a slew of no-name line players, none of whom will be depended on taking a serious number of snaps.
