Gresh out in Sports Hub shakeup

It was one of the worst decision in the history of Sports talk radio. The ratings on WEEI tanked after he was gone and heads rolled.

Ordway's Big Show was best I have ever heard for pure entertainment value.

As long as we define "entertainment" as "so mind-numbingly stupid that it makes me question why I even follow sports" then we are in complete agreement.

I'm sorry to see Gresh go as I enjoyed listening to him when he talked about football at least. As for Tanguay, I couldn't bear to listen to his idiocy, so I'm glad he won't be on the pre and post game anymore.

I hope that Bertrand is true to himself and doesn't take the contrarian Felger approach that has been evident in his performance of late. Even though I think Zolak is a yahoo (especially on some of the ridiculously stupid things he says during the games and the way he screams so much that he loses his voice), they might do okay together, but I'm not so sure 98.5 isn't going to regret this move.

As for the state of Boston sports radio--it's pretty bad. Both morning shows are horrible and Felger & Mazz is not much better. Felger's superior attitude and contrarian stance and Mazz's sidekick, giggling act, and whiney voice are just irritating.

I still miss the old Big Show and its rotating cast; I always enjoyed turning it on and seeing who was on that day and for the most part it was informative and entertaining.

Felger and Mazz are the best.
It's just old people who can't handle them.
Luckily, no one cares about that demographic.

Felger and Mazz are market-driven anxiety brokers. And you are a young moron who one day will be an old moron people will care even less about because you're not part of the Baby Boom Generation. Until then, enjoy being played like a fiddle by your two cynically manipulative heroes.

I see ageist bigotry is back in fashion here at Patsfans...great job, Opie

Nah..... He's just a standard troll. You can see it in his posting history. He'll be banned soon enough.

Anyone know where Gresh is going next?

They said on Friday that he would still be with 98.5. I don't know if it was just spin. But it sounds like he might be relegated to the role that Dale Arnold had on WEEI when he was kicked off middays - weekend and fill in host.

Then he essentially is switching places with Bertrand. Which sucks, if that's how it plays out. What a terrible move by the Hub.

IDK, I think Bertrand is actually pretty good on weekends when he sits in the A-hole chair and is the host. He is just part of the stupidity on the Felger and Mazz show. I am assuming we will see more of the weekend Betrand on the Zo and Betrand Show.

And when Gresh took over for Tanguay. He was just a loud mouthed buffoon. He matured as a broadcaster over the years since. Bertrand is already worlds better than Gresh was when he took over middays. So hopefully he will grow to be even better than Gresh is today.

I'm looking at it purely from a football perspective, and Gresh has insightful technical knowledge of the game that Bertrand will never have. Gresh and Zo were the best duo of all when it came to Patriots talk.

Look, I'm a born and bred New Englander. I've tuned into Felger and Gasbag when EEI gets tiresome but I have no use for inconsequential jerkoffs like Felger. His views may as well be those of some clown from Hammerhead Falls up in Manitoba. Gasbag, though, I must admit, he's a pretty good hook because all I have to hear is three or four words out his weasley mouth and I want to pummel the dashboard with a razor sharp machete. It really aggravates me that this jerkoff is a native from Waltham. Why he wasn't pummeled into a broken meat sack by the time he was 12 is a persistent mystery to me.

The thing that kills me though, is the 6 pm until 10 slot. Who in blazes ever gave this Adam Jones a job? It's like 98.5 just had to answer the Mike Salk blunder of EEI with an even more stupendously ignorant azzole of their own. He even LOOKS like a Salk clone...

Planet Dorky jumped the shark ten years ago. The evening slots are a freakin' wasteland of babbling bubblebrains.

I began to spend more time with Gresh and Zo because, once again, some Clear Channel numbnuts made the indecipherably ridiculous decision to hire the damnable Tim Benz to work with Merloni and Fauria. I firmly believe that 90% of EEI's listeners HATE this cretin with a passion and HE KNOWS IT! WHO is the idiot that keeps insisting on stinking up OUR airwaves with these preposterous Mike Salk abominations?

Kraft and his business buddies should seriously think about acquiring an area radio presence that uses NEW ENGLAND area sports professionals for its broadcasting content.

Followed Gresch early on when he was on 79 The Score in RI... his sophomoric humor was maddening.

Then was a faithful follower of Dale and Holley, but they blew that up. Find Merloni and is various partners idiots.. started to follow Gresch and Zo... most days they were OK, some days they were very good except when Zo wanted me to be upset about Lester signing with Chicago or other such nonsense.

My listening is now reduced to WEEI in the afternoon, and 98.5 in the morning(Toucher and Rich make me laugh)..my expectations of sports talk are severely diminished and realistic..

Now that Baseball will be king will listen less and less... maybe things will get better when football season starts again... but then football season never ends.

Meanwhile, Kirwin and Miller on Sirius NFL radio have turned to free agency with a lot of adult conversation about how various NFL teams will be evaluating rosters and cap space. Who to cut, who to keep. Strategies for filling needs o the roster. They had a good interview yesterday with ex-GM Jerry Angelo.

Kirwin and Angelo agreed that the lack of pro-style QBs coming out of college now is a serious problem. Both would consider going the read-option route with three interchangeable runners at QB (like a committee of running backs) that can be plugged in as soon as the first one gets hurt. The running QB presents serious challenges to defenses, but they have to viewed as disposable resources (like NFL running backs).

In some ways, pro free agency is probably Sirius NFL radio's best time of the year.

I dropped SIRIUS because of the cost and the fact that NFL radio was the only decent station they had. I really do miss Kirwin.

So you bash back against ageism with generationism??? You just negated your whole post.

That said, anyone who writes "Felger and Mazz are the best" deserves a "funny".

-- A GenXer who thinks Felger is douche #1.

Bertrand knows less about football than many posters here. Knows so little about the NFL. Just the Pats. It's difficult to comment on the Pats knowledgably when you don't know football. I'm sure he'll tell us they are great when we win. Suck when we lose or don't cover the spread. With little breakdown of the good or bad.

Not really. My comment was aimed at the poster, not his entire generation (unless they're ALL morons). ;)

This is my concern. I don't think Zo will flourish paired up with just another sports fanboy mediot. This change will likely doom that midday show which is a damn shame as it was the only choice in town.

I'd love to see the percentage of those who only listen because they are in their car vs those who listen when not in the car. I listen only because I am in my car ... and perhaps only 25% of the time ... I switch between music and news also. I'll watch Felger and Mazz in the afternoon if I am at my desk and I don't have enough time to watch a movie ... It's way easier to watch them if I set the bar at it's lowest level.

I'll listen, other than in the car, depending on the content. Otherwise it's mostly in the car.
