Schefter: Has Heard Speculation Colts might have deflated the footballs

You and I are also not employee and employer, but I can't confiscate your texts. What is it about the NFL relationship that allows them to exercise powers that the police have?
You and I is an even worse analogy.
Teams and there employees are members if a league and thereby agree to rules. I suppose they don't have to follow them but there will be consequences. If the patriots refused to cooperate with this investigation they would be fined or otherwise penalized.

I don't think the NFL has any incentive whatsoever to rush the process. As long as they come to their findings before the draft starts at the end of April, they're good. They'll take their time.

After all, they'll want to come to their conclusion so they can dish out any (hopefully zero) punishments for this year's draft selections. That's really the one and only time constraint they have.

I would be very interested to know why Troy Vincent predicted a quick turnaround, and if anything new came to light within that initial period in the beginning that may have changed things.

They certainly didn't take their time leaking tidbits of info to make the Pats look terrible. **** this league. I'm so happy we won, and yet still pissed at how terribly run the NFL is under Goodell.

I'm so glad Kraft stood up and told them to put up or shut up. No doubt if he hadn't, the rest of that week would have been more unprofessional leaks, ********, nonsense, et cetera.

Yes, they couldn't find anything at all to hang the patriots so they had to dig much deeper.

Absolutely correct, sir. This is just a more polite continuation of the witch hunt. The punishment has been decided, they are just looking for an excuse. Compare this to the speedy white wash of the commissioner's part in Rice gate. Kraft is finally getting his eyes opened as to how things are done in Goodell's NFL. Maybe next time when the POS screws up as he certainly will, Kraft will not embrace him.

Maybe part of the delay is that Goodell knows that Kraft has woken up, and he fears what Kraft will push for after the verdict is in on Deflategate.

Maybe Kraft has had enough and is no longer willing to take one for the league, nor should he be.

So, you're saying that the Patriots will be found guilty, or more importantly--have already been found guilty in the minds of the NFL, and they are just digging up more stuff in the meantime?

Absolutely correct. It's amazing how this witch hunt has taken precedence over the Ravens management lying to the POS commissioner in Ricegate and the Jets patently obvious tampering with Revis. I guess science doesn't matter when it comes to the Pats.

Unfortunately, I've feared the whole time that you're correct--but obviously hope that isn't the case.

Anyone talking about "fairness," or some comments made by Aaron Rodgers (reminder: who is NOT under investigation, nor will he be) is living in a fantasy world. We've already seen the way that Goodell operates, particularly when it comes to this team.

Obviously, I hope that we're both very wrong, and that they don't even have as much as a fine--but personally, I'd be surprised if they don't at least get fined.

If they try to sanction the Patriots without real evidence Kraft has to go nuclear on Goodell.

And if Goodell survives, its because Kraft let him!

Is there any indication of when the air was taken out of the balls? Could the Pats have actually played the game with a ball that was tampered with by the Colts? This would have reduced Brady's ability to throw well. That adds insult to injury.

Yes, we know EXACTLY when the air was taken out of the balls: NEVER.

We also know exactly when the pressure of the constant quantity of air inside the balls decreased due solely to its drop in temperature: gradually, during the first half of the game, as the balls were used.

Those balls that were exposed most to the cold rain (the most effective heat sink) had their pressure drop the fastest. Those that were used the least, and/or only exposed to the cold air (the less effective heat sink) had their pressure drop the slowest.

The Colts didn't tamper with any balls.
The Pats didn't tamper with any balls.
Mother Nature did, by dropping the game time temperature.

In a funny irony, when they re-inflated the balls at half time to 12.5 to 13 psig, they actually produced balls that were "illegally over-inflated" compared to every other "legally inflated" football ever used in every cold weather game ever played in the NFL.!!

And Brady seemed to throw these over-inflated ball just fine, and the receivers seemed to catch these over-inflated balls just fine.!!

So much for the "under-inflated balls are easier to throw & catch" ********.

Are you aware that science does not exist in Goodell's NFL. If they wanted to use the scientific explanation this witch hunt would have been over in 24 hours/

I disagree, Sup, at least to a degree. The league doesn't HAVE to find the Pats guilty of anything to win. They just have to do what I've said they'd do all along. They can find the Pats "not guilty" of deflategate" as long as they add that the reason is they HAVE to, because they can't find definitive evidence beyond all doubt.

By doing it that way the league leaves the Pats twisting in the wind of public opinion, as the haters and league mediots can STILL freely speculate about whether they actually did something. Remember OJ was found "not guilty" as well. There is a big difference between being found "not guilty" and "innocent". The league wins just by note declaring the Pats INNOCENT and/or finding out and reporting the sources of the inaccurate leaks and punishing the true perpetrators of a non-story that damaged not only the Pats, but the league

BTW - the new slur against the Pats is now "concussiongate". The mediot are desperately jumping on the pseud0-scandal bandwagon that the Pats took advantage by keeping Edelman on the field while the poor Seahawks had to take Avril out of the game.

I'm still waiting for SOMEONE to stand up and say to whatever idiot brings it up and simply say, "what part of 'passed the concussion protocol' don't you understand". Just another complete non-story that somehow is gaining traction. UNBELIEVABLE

Interesting thoughts, Ken. You may be right.

Gooddell is plotting how to make this go away quietly, but in the end he lost his biggest safety blanket in Robert Kraft and this will ultimately be his undoing as NFL commissioner. Unfortunately, there will probably be no recourse for the culprits of this entire sham.

I agree...... He wants it to go away quietly, while not admitting he was wrong. He does not want to face the scrutiny of a Kraft apology

In the end I believe they will say that the investigation was inconclusive & he will send a memo to all owners outlining their new game ball handeling policy.

I've been saying that all along. I will be gobsmacked if the result of the "investigation" is anything other than a facially neutral statement that the NFL has no evidence and/or the investigation was inconclusive, but intentionally worded to practically force people to read between the lines "...and there's no evidence because NE covered it up too well". And they'll throw in a $25K or $50K fine as well. Or maybe even as much as $25K for each ball that was measured below 12.5PSI at halftime, no matter how little below.

It's too late for the mimum fine. After all the hubbub It's got to either be an apology to the patriots from the comm*****ioner, or a massive penalty for the patriots.

After the firestorm the league let the Patriots dangle over during the superbowl, anything short of the apology means the League brass Let the patriots cheat in the superbowl, and the public was ready to blackball the patriots without any facts, so the league not apologizing means "I knew the did it" tin foil hat dumb****s to go back on tv and say stupid **** like "its ray rice all over again"

The other outcome of course, and this is the best possible scenerio is that the league punishes the colts, while at the same time apologizing to the patriots.
