Breaking News: Peyton Manning will play in 2015, ready to play "at a significant level"

I HATE that Peyton Manning is considered in the same discussions as Tom Brady when they talk about GOAT's. I HATE the media's ball washing of him and their selective memory of his playoff record. I understand that his physical skills have eroded to some degree. But here's the thing. Through 12 games Manning had 33 TD's, 9 picks, and a 109 QB rating. It's not like he sucks or anything. Now I don't fear him when he comes to play the Pats. They have ALWAYS seemed to defend him well, even at his peak. It's probably more true now. But the fact remains that most of the time his team plays a game, HIS team has the better QB.

Over the last 5 games the Bronco's played Manning legs were hurt. When your arm strength is marginal to start, now you have a real problem, and it showed. If he is healthy now, there is no reason to believe that the Manning that played those first 12 games isn't going to be there at the start of the season.

The reality for the Bronco's is this. There is no other QB who would come close to giving them the productivity they get from Manning. But the fact remains he's a declining asset, and the Bronco's brain trust has to thinking about spending $21MM against the cap wondering if that declining asset can make it through the season without incurring another relatively minor leg injury that he won't be able to play through like this year. It is a real dilemma, and one I'm glad we don't have.

Regrettable I've got to say I agree with your assessment there. It's entirely possible that Manning could play at a level maybe not as high as 2013/early 2014 but well enough to keep the Broncos in contention for the AFC again next season, if the injury was the main contributor to the poor play. It would be in Denver's best interest to bring him back at full strength at least for 2015. I saw yesterday that they were $26 M under the cap or something like that. No idea how they are that far below but it certainly makes it easy to keep him around and at least franchise D Thomas. As you pointed out, at the very least it's far superior to the alternatives given their cap situation for this year.

This is the same guy who spent practice time a few months ago convincing his WRs that when he broke the TD record it would make him look really cool to the fans at home if they played keep away from him with the ball.

I am so hoping, some talented video editor can take that clip and doctor it up to contain a shiny Lombardi trophy they play keep away with rather than a football.

Honest question, where is this notion coming from that peyton doesn't care about winning and only cares about stats? I really wanna know because I truly have no clue.

how do the broncos have more cap space then us? they have manning, clady, spent all of that money on ware, talib, and ward. plus, they gave chris harris 40m..
over 100m on their secondary and some think we can't sign revis? if darrelle walks, tom should be pissed. lol

The Pats are deeper than the Broncos.

He obviously realizes he's 2000 yards from the NFL career passing record and just has to claim it even if it means holding his team back another season. I have respect for him as a competitor but I hate that plays like he has to pad his stats and not for the team.

  1. Brett Favre 71,838
  2. Peyton Manning 69,691
  3. Dan Marino 61,361
  4. Drew Brees 56,033
  5. Tom Brady 53,258
Of course, it has to scare Peyton that Brady is averaging about 4,500 yards per season over the last five. . . . and Brees is averaging about 5,000.

If either of them plays five more years, Peyton may not even have that record. :D

If brees has another 5k yards season I'm guaranteeing Peyton comes back in 2016. He just needs that legacy. He knows he will always be known as a playoff failure so he needs those stats.

This is just posturing by manning's media camp to tell the world that he wants to play. No reason to leak this unless broncos havent decided it yet otherwise denver wouldve announced it. This sounds a little weird. Seems like he sending a message via the media that "iam ready to play but if denver doesnt want me ,its not because if the health'

He's coming back solely for records. If anyone disagrees then they are blind.

All time passing yards, all time completions, and all time wins, all within range.

Guy is a stat whore. It would eat at him the rest of his life if he didn't at least make an attempt to get them.

Manning is returning but I highly doubt to the Broncos. This is about getting paid. Manning wants every penny. He just put the ball back in the Broncos court. He is not walking away from that paycheck, papa manning won't let that happen.
My guess is now they have to wiggle out of his contract, my guess is flunk him on his physical if they can't trade him. My crystal ball says he ends up in Tennessee. But certainly not Denver. Who in their right mind think Kubiak is gonna be able to roll his old ass out. He can't, he won't, he will be gone.

Pretty sure that crap was made up, much like 11 balls out of 12 are 2 pounds light. I live in Denver and no one talked about this.

And I agree with others here, it isn't about stats, it's about money,

He's got more rehearsed celebrations to teach his receivers.

If Peyton Manning truly plays out his last remaining year in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans, he needs to have his head examined much more than I originally thought. If he isn't going to play for a competitor, then he should just hang up the cleats.

I couldn't imagine John Elway NOT wanting Manning back for one more year though. That would be kind of odd, wouldn't it? They finished in the last 8 teams (top 25%) of the league last year, and that was considered a major letdown. His QB'ing intelligence, quick throws, and ability to read the opposing defense alone would make him worthwhile, even if he has a noodle arm on longer throws and the injury had nothing to do with it.

Not quite.

"He came to me ... and said if anybody scores the 509, that's what we should do," receiver Demaryius Thomas said. "He said 'Keep the ball away,' like hopscotch or whatever. I was like, 'Cool.'"

"We were definitely rehearsing it," Sanders said. "But I didn't think we were going to do it. I ended up running up to Demaryius, who had caught the touchdown, of course, and I was like 'Let's do it ... let's just do it.' And we did it.''

Yeh but when interviewed locally in the news on channel frigin 9 here he said (DT) that they talked about it, not with Payton but with the WR's but didn't actually rehearse it. Anyway doesn't matter I don't care for manning but you guys are so full of hate it is unbelievable. He is good to the fans here and works with the community. I've seen Brady be a complete DB to fans live so they all have their issues. I still prefer TB over manning but they ain't what you make them out to be. I'm done debating it.

While I think that this is to the Pats advantage, for reasons several posters have cited and that I won't repeat, I did read the article; it seems to me that there are still some opportunities for the proverbial "slip between the cup and the lip."

Manning still hasn't technically passed his physical. Could this be a set up for him to retire for "medical" and not "desire" reasons?

The article clearly says that the Broncos will want to restructure the contract. Will they be able to do that in a way that is satisfactory to Peyton? Remember, the guy has never been big on "give backs" throughout his career.

In addition, no matter how they restructure Manning's contract, "something's gotta give" on the Broncos' roster cap-wise.

In other words you're using a situation of he said, she said contradictory statements as the basis of your argument here. Moreover, my retort to you was not that they did in fact rehearse the TD celebration, simply that they did in fact discuss the rehearsal of said TD celebration in their own words, when you insinuated that no such thing happened or in your words, "that crap was made up." Whether they rehearsed it or not is irrelevant to me, but to imply that they didn't do that or talked to Manning about it, as such making it seem like it was just some media creation, a la Deflategate, is directly contradicted by multiple people involved including Peyton Manning himself:

“I can't believe they actually did it," added Manning. "We sort of joked about it during the week. I'm a little bit hurt by the fact that they could do that -- that they're kind of picking on me."

Anyway doesn't matter I don't care for manning but you guys are so full of hate it is unbelievable.
This statement is a falsehood on many levels.

He is good to the fans here and works with the community. I've seen Brady be a complete DB to fans live so they all have their issues. I still prefer TB over manning but they ain't what you make them out to be.
This is a strawman argument and has no purpose here.

I'm done debating it.
There never was any debate at all to begin with. You turned this from being corrected on whether the discussion about the TD rehearsal didn't happen, to rambling on about people hating on Peyton Manning.

Not really. Elway knows he isn't winning a SB with Manning.

One and done
SB blowout loss
One and done.

Friggen Tim Tebow has one less playoff win than Manning in Denver.

Elway would probably prefer to use that $16.5m elsewhere to make the team better and roll the dice with Osweiler and if they do good, great and if they suck maybe they suck enough to get one of the top QBs in the 2016 draft.
