How do you think Welker feels ?

Welker was a very good regular season player for us. But when the spotlight shined the brightest he choked. End of story. If he hadn't dropped that big catch in the Superbowl, he would probably have at least 1 championship ring for us and might still even be here.

All things considered I'm glad we moved on from Welker. Edelman has been an absolute beast for us. And Amendola caught a huge TD pass in the back of the endzone that I fear Welker likely would have dropped.

We won the Superbowl and we are moving on to next season. Whatever Welker feels, I could care less. He chose to goto the Broncos and he can try to win his ring there. I don't hate Welker, but I've definitely moved on from him.
I really disagree that it's end of story. He had 103 yards against the Giants in the '07 SB. That's about as big as the spotlight can become, when you are on the verge of an undefeated season, and he had 100 yards. That's not choking. He had good playoff production overall when he was here. Some people here are really trying to change history to make it sound like Welker was crap when he was here.

Welker?}???????????????????

How about Peytie Duckling????????????????????????? How does HE feel? Biggest me first joke QB in NFL history STB to start last year's Super Bowl and was NEVER EVEN IN THE GAME!!

What is the over/under on the Manning Ballwash Convention 2015? a day? a week?

There was a discussion today on espn about whether the Brady-Manning debate is really over yet. Yes, they were serious. Who had 12 days?

Welker was great here.

I of course wish he could have gotten his ring here as by extension it would have meant that Pats got another.

The thing is as good as he was, if he makes that critical catch, he in all likelihood would have gotten his ring.

I don't think the catch was as easy as some have made it out to be. It was slightly behind him. But it was a VERY catchable ball.

Put it in perspective.

Manningham had to make an EXPONENTIALLY TOUGHER catch to get his team the win.

David Tyree's catch was INFINITELY more difficult then the catch that was asked of Welker.

If Welker makes that catch the play probably doesn't even stand out as a highlight catch.

I loved Welker when he was here. If I am not mistaken he is the all time leading Pats receiver.

But he had the opportunity in his own hands.

I mean there were many plays that could have gone another way that would have made Welker's drop insignificant. So you simply can not pin the loss on that one play. Successfully defending the Pass to Maningham could have one it as well.

But if Welker makes that catch. He probably has a ring.

like pure dog ****...or at least did

Here is how Welker feels: "I am a healthy multimillionaire in my early thirties with a beautiful wife. I can do pretty much anything I want whenever I want wherever I want. I feel quite good." Of course he'd like to have a Super Bowl ring but anyone who believes he's miserable because of it probably is guessing wrong.

Here's the thing about that drop.... Was it one of Brady's best throws? Nope, he could have done much better, considering how free Welker was.

Would it have been a great catch by Welker? Yep, considering his height, and how he had to turn his body. It would have been a great catch.

Here's the thing where it gets tricky. Welker was going in to a contract year. He wanted more money. Wasn't he looking for around $10 Mil a year? If you want to be paid like that, you HAVE to make that catch, at the spot, at that time of the game. No question. He didn't. He and the team went thru a contract dispute that off season. The team used the franchise tag on him, and paid him that season $9 mil, and he dropped a sure fire first down against Baltimore in the AFC championship game. That combined with Talib getting hurt, and no Gronk we never recovered.

Thats where it soured between Welker. He wanted a kings ransom, which looking at his stats alone, he deserved, but he went 2 straight years dropping key catches in the biggest games of the year. I never really faulted him as much for the SB drop, but after the Baltimore AFC championship game, esp knowing him and his agent were going to ask for big bucks, I was ready to move on from him. Then he pretty much went to Denver, as opposed to staying in New England, where he was a legend, for a deal that gave him what a mil more? He burned his bridges here.

I don't think the Pats wanted him to come back. They appeared to be moving away from him with Edelman.

I think two things were major factors in Welker leaving;
- Taking the franchize money and not renegotiating. I don't think his answer to why he signed the tag helped either, when he claimed that he had 9.5 million reasons.
- Cracking foot jokes when he was asked by BB not to comment.

The whole foot joke thing happened a year or 2 before he signed the franchise tag though. Pats wanted him back, just not at the money the Welker camp wanted.

WW, others folks have already quoted things and he said them, it's not fiction. BB made him what he was. Brady didn't lead him into danger all the time like Manning did, and Manning did do it, like he has other guys, those poor bastards in Indy. WW took a few bucks more to play for a rival, I don't blame him but he doesn't deserve to come back and this guy will never make the HOF of any kind. Unfortunately he will be remembered for nothing more than taking a beating, laying on the ground out like a light wearing that goofy helmet.

Welker was great regular season player but under performed in playoffs and has continued to drop a lot of passes since 2011 super bowl. We can debate drop in 2011/2012 super bowl but the following year he had terrible drops against Houston and Baltimore in playoffs. One play does not decide a game but the entire afc championship game changed after welker drooped that pass against the ravens. Welker is warrior but he overvalued his market value and that is why he did not get a ring 2 weeks ago.

The Pats wanted him back and tried. He and his agent insisted on testing the market which they overestimated, and while that was going on the Pats signed Amendola to protect themselves at the position. Once that happened, it was adios Wes.

That's another thing that gets overlooked. WW and his representatives royally fcuked up the market. They thought he was worth more than he actually was....

Yes, I remember how it all came down, but I'm not that sure the Pats really cared or wanted him back. They seemed to be moving away from him the year before he left, but then Edelman got hurt.

Well, they had an offer on the table (actually two offers, one much earlier) that he declined -- both better than what he got in Denver. He could've accepted one of them and stayed in Foxboro.

I thought the final numbers were close. I think it's true that, as Tunes described, Welker went to check the market and the Pats moved on, but I'm not sure it was greed.

Calling it greed might be an exaggeration. It was just a miscalculation of the market for his services. Welker let his agent lead the way and it didn't pan out for them.

Right.

He did try to come back but it was too late, because of DA.

I've got it now.

Thanks for taking the time.

Surprised this many care how Welker feels. He was a great Patriot and moved on. He almost surely doesn't care how we feel.
