He stepped up in the playoffs, but he didn't do anything any JAG WR wouldn't have done.
Edelman is a stud. Amendola, not so much.
But I wouldn't be shocked to hear Amendola > Welker arguments at this point from some of you guys, it's gotten that ridiculous the last couple days.
Yesh but the funny thing is Amendola was even more injury prone than Edelman. Plus he didnt even know the system like Edelman. I dont know about you, but for me that's a total vote of no confidence for Edelman. If I had to guess, Amendola got Welker's contract not necessarily because of a lack of faith in Edelman, but lingering concerns about his durability. This may even be why he didn't get more money.
The talent was obviously there. Anyone who wasn't convinced by Thanksgiving 2012 at the latest, I don't know what they were watching.
I agree, but are you saying Rodney couldn't have made the play?
The point is Rodney could've made the play, just like Welker could've made the catch. Neither was an easy play, but some posters are discounting the contributions of an All Pro WR, the leading receiver in Patriots history, for more or less the same thing.
You're gonna be very next year my friend, because highly doubt he comes back under his current contract. And I'll be shocked if he takes a pay cut considering Super Bowl heroes always get overpaid the next season. Chip Kelly's would probably love the guy.Are you serious right now? Amendola has more freakshow circus catches than anyone else on our roster right now. His numbers don't mean anything to me because he isn't a primary receiver. When it mattered the most, Amendola made the play.
Penalties he wasn't responsible for also brought back plays he made, including, IIRC, a spectacular one handed grab in 2013 that would of won us a game in the final moments? Carolina was it? The Jets?
Don't remember when or what game, but I remember the play, and it was some spectacular **** at the goalpost that foreshadowed things to come.
Awesome catch. The turning point in the game. Without it, it probably ends ugly for the Patriots. Doesn't change the fact that Edelman drops passes too.
You really have the coolest comebacks. You totally don't run them to the ground.
I don't know what more Rodney could have done other than maybe go at the ball more than at the man. The point is he should've had help on the play. He got beat one-on-one in flukey fashion.I agree, but are you saying Rodney couldn't have made the play?

Without question? Please. First two years as starters with Brady as QB are very comparable.

I personally started having high hopes for him since that 2009 playoff game against the Patriots where he was literally the only guy who showed up to play that game. But the damn injuries got in the way. Until now. And now he's super awesome and I hate you guys for making me besmirch him the way I have I this thread! He doesn't deserve this.
It simply comes down to me not hating him as much as you do. Don't get me wrong, I loathed the guy, especially around this time last year. But if/when he retires, I can forgive and forget because what he did as a Patriot trumps whatever he's done to piss me off as a Patriots fan.Easy solution: Stop besmirching him in order to defend a guy who dropped game winning Superbowl passes, who went to a rising Peyton-lead conference rival because his pride was stung over Belichick being right about his market value.

His running his mouth off was annoying. Especially because it seems like he thinks he has his great charismatic personality and Belichick was holding it back. The dude is a dull as drying paint. (Ironically, it's actually Edelman who's quite charismatic). But I don't think we can blame him for leaving to play for Peyton. If he's not gonna play for the best QB in the league, why not play for the 2nd best? Should he have gone to play with Christian Ponder instead?I don't hate Welker. What I do feel for Welker is absolutely nothing. All the good sentiments that I used to have for him, his play, his personality - all of that is now completely foreign to me. If I travelled back in time, I wouldn't recognize it any longer in past-me at all. That's how I feel about Welker, and why I don't want him coming back here to retire on ceremonial ground.
Let's be clear why he left. Belichick said he was worth 5~6 million. Welker and his agent threw a fit about it because they believed he was worth 10+. A stand off ensued. Welker and his agent then found out that he was worth 5~6 million, as Belichick said. The Patriots had, according to the Krafts, a superior offer to Denver's on the table. Welker didn't take it because he didn't want to come waltzing back to Belichick after being so decisively wrong about what he was making a stink about.
So he went to a Peyton Manning team out of sheer spite and pettiness, and didn't even go gracefully and quietly on top of it. He went there and started running his mouth off.

First of all GB, had no room for him. Second of all, Peyton clearly was better than him in 2013. And before you start with your "playoffs only matter!!!!" spiel, I'll point out that Mr. Rodgers has quietly become Peyton Manning Jr. when it comes to postseason performance. If he wanted to play for the 2nd best QB in the league, he would have gone to GB.
Why?
So him and bill didn't see eye to eye. He played his ass off here and went off for a pretty meager payday.
I wish he'd stayed, wish he'd made that catch, but I'm not going to hate on the guy and wish him ill thoughts
who cares? To retire as a Patriot? Or is there way too much bad blood?
There are people disputing it in this very thread.
I'm not discounting his talent. I'm bashing him the same way I do Peyton Manning for coming up short in big moments in the postseason. Both are all pros with gaudy stats, yet both are massive chokers. Just because he wore a Pats uniform doesn't make him immune from ridicule.
It would be nice if you and others were as consistent as I am. But I guess you're too much of a homer.
And it's funny that people make it seem like they've always loved Edelman and that he's always been great. I remember there was a span of years where he was called "Edelperson" here to imply he's just another guy. He's gotten A LOT better in the last 2 years.
