IF Wes Welker retires from NFL, will he sign 1-day deal with Patriots?

Peyton Manning's numbers also look good in the postseason when you look at yards per game, completeion %, etc. But we all know what makes him a choker is his poor play in critical moments of the game. This is also what makes Welker a choker.

So, Welker never made any clutch plays?

Please, just stop it. You're embarrassing yourself.

That was a very catchable pass. He was uncovered and it hit him right in the hands. Stop making horrible excuses for why he choked.

Did I hurt your feelings? Too bad. I dislike Welker, and I will continue to post about how much I dislike him.
My feelings aren't hurt, I'm not Wes Welker. I am, however, embassared to be grouped with people like you as a Pats fan.

I don't particularly like Welker, but I sure as hell appreciate was he's done for this organization.

But, hey let's forget that our golden boy Tom Brady threw a bad pass on that play...

No he didn't. He threw it where it couldn't be intercepted and it bounced right off Welker's hands. Not saying it wasn't a difficult catch to make, but Welker drops a lot of passes his `replacements` would of brought down.

If Tom throws it inside, #21 intercepts it and it's a Peyton Manning in the Superbowl.
It was Wes's chance to be clutch and he wasn't.

We shall not honor butterfingers.

I don't really think you understand what you're talking about. Everybody makes "clutch" plays at one point or another. What makes someone a "clutch player" is the magnitude of those clutch plays and how they affect the outcome of the game.

Pats built their dynasty on the backs of players like Troy Brown, David Patten, Deion Branch, Wille McGinest, Ty Law, Adam Vinatieri, Rodney Harrison, Tom Brady, etc etc. Real clutch players. To suggest that Welker belongs anywhere near the same category as these all-time Pat greats is an insult to them.

He was nothing more than a player who accumulated yards and TDs but came up short when it mattered most.

Let me be clear in speaking purely for myself:

I don't dislike Welker because he dropped the ball in the Superbowl.

I dislike Welker because he left for less money to go help Peyton Manning break Tom's TD record and try to help him win a Superbowl, purely because he was butthurt that Belichick was right about his market value and he wasn't.

So don't expect me to throw confetti in the air if, in a pity induced moment of madness, Kraft lets him waltz back into New England for the honor of retiring a Patriot.

He could of retired a Patriot. Instead he went to Denver.

Would Mankins retire a Patriot? Is winning a Super Bowl a prerequisite to retire a Patriot these days?

Wes Welker made great plays for us while he was here. He was our run game in 2007. He was one of the top punt returners in the game. He took his hits and for the most part he caught passes. He had as good a career he could have without winning a ring and starting on the Dolphins.

Its no love lost if he doesnt retire a Patriot. Not even sure he'll retire. But if he wants to retire a Patriot then give him the one day deal. Gotta let the grudge go and bury the hatchet.

Amendola like a boss:

This catch, along with Gronk's spinning, one-handed grab, are the two best catches of the year, for me.

But why?

He chose Denver over the Pats. He should retire a bronco just like he wanted it.

no freakin' way, now, but when he was here he was one of my favorite players.

I have no ill feelings towards welker. It's a business and I don't have a grudge against him for holding out for the most money. After all, we did take advantage of him for several years in his prime. But that's business. You win some, you lose some. The Super Bowl lost is definitely not all on welker. We could have stopped Eli. Ninko had an offsides on a 3rd and 7th. Then the manningham catch. The D definitely has to share the blame.

But, he isn't going to be resigned. I think there's still a bitter aftertaste.

To answer the original question for this thread: no. I think the way he left here kind of killed any chance of that happening.

However.....

The bitterness and venom being spewed out by certain posters is pathetic. Trust me, I'm just as disappointed in his drops in the SB and AFCCG, but he was still one of the top 10 Patriot receivers of all time. Let's not forget that he was easily the best Patriot in SB 42 (11 rec., 100+ yards) and would have won the SB MVP if the football gods don't gift Tyree that catch. People who just bring up his drop in 46 are probably the same "experts" who are convinced Bill Buckner was a god awful player. Were both men solid players? Yes. Did they have one bad play that essentially cost their respective teams titles? Yes, but they're still solid players nonetheless.

Would I want Welker back on a 1 day contract? Not really. Do I think we still need to respect what he did here? Yes.

And for what it's worth, give me Edelman everyday of the week over Welker.

Some folks seems to forget what happened to Ty Law (have to feed his family). Remember him? He wanted top $$ and left the Patriots.

Years, later Ty Law was inducted to the Patriots Hall of Fame.
