Blowing off steam about how Superbowl win is viewed.

Luck, execution, divine intervention, Katy Perry's tatas... whos cares??? The Patriots won and the Seahawks lost...All that really matters - ENJOY IT!

Im sorry if this has previously been discussed by man im so sick of reading about how "lucky" the patriots were to win the game. I've talked to a whole lot of unbiased viewers and the common theme is that the patriots were the better team for 3 of the 4 quarters.

The most annoying part is you hear the haters talk about how lucky the patriots were to win because of the bad play call that lead to the Interception.

It annoys me because if the Seahawks somehow manage to finish that final drive and score then the narrative will be how the Patriots deserved to win but the Seahawks had an all time flukey/lucky catch to put them in a spot to win the game.
Put it this way, i didn't hear anyone say the giants were lucky to win those two Super Bowls, especially the first one. Besides it wasn't luck that butler made the int, it was study and practice. Usually years down the road no one remembers how or why one team won the Super Bowl, they just remember Who won it. The Pick will overshadow the two drives that put the pats ahead and it will be remembered as a great play, not a lucky play.

No offense to anyone who feels differently, but I couldn't possibly care less if people see our win as "lucky."

It's about time we got some good luck! The past 2 SB losses certainly went the other way. You need luck to win the SB, at least at some point during the stretch run, anyway.
I'd actually have the Super Bowl no other way. It was one of the most satisfying endings I've ever seen in sports. The fact that we let up another miracle play but overcame it this time was so fitting. I can imagine the headlines if they scored. "KEARSED" would probably be what I saw the next morning. What happened was amazing. The reverse of David Tyree happened and some demons were exorcised. Loveddd it, regardless of whether any "haters" cry that we were lucky.

I only talk to fans of football teams with 4 Lombardis or more. Sorry, but if your football team doesn't at least have 4 Lombardi trophies, I just can't be seen talking to you. Too embarrassing.

Damn you for forcing me to sign in at work just so I could applaud this comment. You win all the internets today my friend. ALL OF 'EM!!

I have never heard anyone saying the Patriots were "lucky" to win. Perhaps I don't talk to or listen to those who are saying that.

I guess that if some people are saying that, those people did not watch the game. They didn't watch the come back from 10 points down against the "best defense" in the NFL. Nor did they see the play that put the Seahawks inside the 5 yard line.

Or, perhaps they are just stupid and not worth listening to.

The OP's lament reminds me of Doug Baldwin!

Sometimes you get the breaks (snow bowl/tuck rule, Butler Int) and sometimes you don't ( helmet catch, Manningham catch, Caldwell drop, Welker drop). and often one play or play call can make the difference. Get all the breaks and people call you lucky, don't get them and you're unlucky....
That play was part preparation ( let the clock run knowing they only had one TO which affects play call) and part fortune that Butler recognized it and was able to make the int without getting flagged for PI.....
I have heard people say they were "lucky" but maybe it's because I'm in Philly where people don't know what a Lombardi trophy looks like...

+1 to loved the ending, wouldn't have it any other way.

I didn't care much about the seahawks, but between deflate-gate, some comments their players were making, etc I REALLY didn't want to lose. Fast forward...ref gets in Revis' way, so frustrating to watch, pats are down 10..Sherman doing his 2-4 thing...ughhh. Thank god there was a comeback.

Somewhere in there I gained a lot of hate for the seahawks, and was glad to see it end as painfully as possible for them. Every time I hear someone say "shoulda just handed it to lynch!" I love it.

Like everyone's saying, haters gonna hate. Pats have been so consistent over the years that they obviously won't be remembered as fluky here imo.

Eh I understand your frustration but it's just something that you'll have to get used to if you're not by now. Selective memory, it runs rampant with the haters. By that same token we can have 10 awful calls go against us and if ONE questionable call goes our way you'll hear about how we 'get all the calls' from the refs. It's how the mind of the hater works, selective memory and seeing what they want to see.

Face it everytime the Patriots win and there's any potential way to detract from it, people will pick on the one thing they see as 'lluck' or 'opponents blowing it' rather than giving us credit. They can't even acknowledge that just two plays before the ball bounced off a guy's knee or whatever and conveniently pops up right into his hands, but when Butler makes a spectacular read and catch that's luck.

No luck. Butler played like his life depended on it. He deserves all the praise and adulation he's been getting. And to be honest, for the first time in a while, I actually really, really love the hate right now. It just seems to make it sweeter. Because the Pats have proven them wrong and they just look like haters now. They're lost all of they've ammo. Love it!! I'm enjoying this SB more any by a mile.

Winning is usually the product of playing better than your opponent. That doesn't only mean making more good plays, but making fewer bad plays. What I'm saying is that TFB could have f'd up and threw an interception instead of a TD on that last drive to JE11.... But he didn't.

We're better. We won.

As of now the 28-24decision is in the books... :D

haters gonna hate, kiss my rings

It was by far the most exciting feeling I've ever had in sports.

To be honest, I'd much rather have had a nice easy, relaxing, blow out victory---but I'm certainly not going to complain or worry about what others think, that's for sure!

In six SB games since 2001, the Patriots have outscored opponents 135-129. Based on this simple fact, their record should be either 4-2 or 3-3. They were 4-2 by a razor thin margin. In the big picture it all makes sense.

Six games decided by 4 points or less. What a ride for our collective blood pressure.

Agreed.
To the OP, if you are bothered by what the mediots yammer about you are needlessly putting yourself in a world lacking reason or accountability. Ummm, is that a great place to be?

The last 2 minutes of a game do not live in an absolute vacuum. Does the outcome of a game not depend on all 4 quarters? Did Seattle not put themselves/Patriots not force them to be in a position of losing the SB if they did not score a TD on their last possession of the game??
When you put yourself in position to lose the game unless you score a TD on your last possession, you basically have put yourself one step away from being on a river of excrement without any means of propulsion (to put it BBT cleanly :)). Seattle lost that game for playing inadequately for a majority of the game, to put themselves in a 4 point deficit with less than a minute to go. Seattle then allowing Butler to be in position to make a great play is just one of multiple key pieces to an overall picture of a team that didn't/did not deserve to win the game.

For The Win, Brother!!

Great video.
One question I don't think that has been asked (or at least I haven't seen it), if Butler takes a knee in the endzone after the pick, can he feel very certain it is a touchback? Or did he make another good play to punch it as far outside the endzone as possible (to play it safe -- as the spot could have been 5 blades of grass outside the goal line or even a BS safety call)?

It has certainly been brought up at times, TBS.

In my opinion, Butler's momentum on the INT made it pretty difficult to consider downing it in the end zone, but that's just the way I see it.

As a matter of fact, someone here claimed that Butler actually addressed the question at some point after the game during an interview. He (supposedly) said that he was concerned about giving SEA 2 points on a safety and being forced to punt the ball, so he fell down as soon as he was able to outside of the endzone. If true, that's an incredible job of quick processing and reacting for an undrafted rookie.
