Bold Statement: 2014 receiving corps is the best in franchise history

This thread is a FAIL as much as that Welker thread.

I said receiving corps (not wide receiving corps) which includes any weapon in the passing game.

Uh, no.

01 ~ "receiving corps" is quite clearly and explicitly just short for "wide receiving corps" as any 4 Year Old knows. By choosing that term, you explicitly excluded Gronkowski and Vereen.

02 ~ If you meant "Passing Game", then perhaps you should've said...oh I don't know..."Passing Game"??

Ain't too complicated, my friend.

Don't bother with him. He's gonna ignore every logical thing you point out.

NFL.com disagrees with you as they list TEs as part of receiving corps.

It would be nice if you knew what you were talking about.

How in the hell do you ignore this YET AGAIN:

Until you actually address this, this argument is over.

It's no coincidence that the Patriots offense dropped off a fricken cliff once TOM BRADY got injured.

I didn't ignore this. I addressed this multiple times.

Dude!! You just quoted Bucky Brooks!!

He's not the only moron to fail FootBall 101, though, so don't feel bad. ;)

Comic Gold!!

I've never seen someone flail so helplessly, desperately trying to defend a moronic post, when they could've just corrected their error ~ what? ~ almost 200 Posts ago, now?? Awesome!!

You're clearly one of the morons who failed.

There ya go, Sport. A Link to spell it out for you. :)

The Site's name is literally FootBall 101!! For the Developmentally Challenged!!

Definition: An offensive player who lines up on or near the line of scrimmage, but split to the outside. His primary job is to catch passes from the quarterback.

Also Known As: receiver, wideout, split end, flanker

*But you go right on pretending that Tight Ends are on that list, Sport, if it makes you feel better!!

Given @Off The Grid's work here these past 5 years, eccentric yes (ok, batshit crazy), but a moron he most certainly is not. He's one of the more entertaining and football educated posters here.

You should rethink that statement.

Thank Ye kindly, Sir...especially for the BatShit Crazy bit!! ;)

Let me append, if I may: I just went trolling through the last 9 Pages or so, fully expecting Fo to amuse me with rants and ravings...but he actually held up pretty well, despite a dubious Premise.

However, it's approaching Sleepy Time for me, and I must abide...

Just wanted to Get That Out There...

And here I thought that winning a Super Bowl would bring this board together. But no, we're still the people who take an interesting thought experiment question and turn it into:

"You're an idiot."
"No YOU'RE an idiot!"
"Well you're a BIGGER idiot!"
"Oh yeah? You're the BIGGEST idiot!!"
"You're the biggest idiot +1!"
"You're the biggest idiot +infinity!"
"Oh yeah? Well I found a tiny bit of semantics in one of your post that PROVES you're the idiot!"

I've been smiling for almost two weeks now since the win, and I just don't get how THIS is the thing that has put us back at each other's throats.

You just posted the definition of a wide receiver. That doesn't help your claim at all. TEs are often referred to as part of the receiving corps - as the article written by a former NFL player outlined. Most of the people in this thread knew what I meant.

But by all means, you can continue being wrong.

Huh? This was the healthiest playoff and healthiest Super Bowl Patriots squad that I can remember.

Edelman was battling a hip injury at the end of the season, he and Amendola likely both sustained concussions in the SB, Stork missed a game and a half due to a knee injury and wasn't 100% against Seattle.

I remember Neal being injured in 2007 but he started all playoff games. Brady had an ankle sprain and was in a walking boot for a couple of days but seemed fine after that. There was no noticeable limp. He wasn't hobbling around like Rodgers was this year.

All teams are beat up at the end of the season. These excuses are starting to become dangerously similar to the ones Peyton defenders use to down play his playoff record.

The facts:
1. That offense performed worse than the 2014 offense against top defenses (regular season + playoffs)
2. That team's passing offense was atrocious in the postseason while 2014's was incredible and pretty much unstoppable
3. That team failed to win a championship

Wes Welker in his prime was nearly uncoverable within 10/15 yards on the inside. How many times did we see him catch a ball through traffic inches off the ground over and over and over again?

Edelman is a more versatile player, plays better on the outside, and might be overall superior, but Welker in the slot >>>>>>>>>> Edelman in the slot and it's not even close.

The only thing Edelman has over Welker in the slot is that little get hit, spin a little, and jump for five more yards close to the ground thing he does.

He's also more athletic, versatile, and reliable in clutch situations. So there's that.

The facts
1. Cherry pickin stats. If you're lookin at stat, compare overall ones for the year and 07 is all - time great while '14 isn't even the best this year. But why tell the whole story!
2. Keep ignoring how weak the postseason secondaries 14 faced were, and fact that TOM BRADYS INJURY affected them.
3. I completely forget that Welker and moss were covering tyree on that final possession. Edelmans ability to pick off russel Wilson at the 1 is the difference between these two great offenses.
4. You're not very intelligent. You started following the pats in 2009, this is the best team you've ever seen so you just wanna be bold about it. You love that you have almost 200 replies so you wanna keep repeating your statement and ignoring any points you can't argue till this thread is greatest in patsfan history!

1. The whole story? The whole story is that the 2007 offense did much better against weaker defenses than the 2014 offense but did worse against top defenses.

2. Baltimore held a very good passing attack the previous week to just 17 points. Their secondary wasn't good very good on paper but played well against the Steelers. They also had an incredibly front 7. Seattle had an incredible secondary, even with all the injuries.

3. Of course Welker and Moss weren't covering Tyree. But that passing offense was weak all postseason and could only muster 14 points in the biggest game of the year. Injuries happen to every team when you get to January and February, as has already been outlined. The difference between the two passing offenses was the 2007 one was heavily reliant on pass protection, while the 2014 one wasn't to the same extent. Brady has always had a quick release. The difference was the speedy receivers who were able to not only get open, but accumulate a ton of YAC. Of the 300+ yards of passing offense, 200+ yards came after the catch in SB49. Those quick passes neutralized the pass rush and the YAC turned short passes into large gains at key moments of the game.

4. Any comment about intelligence coming from someone who clearly never graduated from university and has very poor reasoning skills means very little to me, kiddo. I assure you I've got more intelligence in my index finger than you've got in your entire body. I started watching the team in the mid 90s. So for those who watched prior to the mid 90s, I am willing to listen to their arguments for why some of those receiving corps were better. I saw the 2007 offense and I'd take this receiving corps over that one any day of the week.

Additionally, you're a Welker. fan. You clearly favor Peyton Manning-esque regular season performances as opposed to stellar postseason performances. I don't. I prefer teams and players that perform in the postseason.
