This may be relevant again given the outcome of the Super Bowl. Let me preface by saying that I am NOT insinuating that Carroll is a bad coach or has lost his Seahawks, but I figure this memory might be a little more relevant now........

We all remember the thrilling Monday Night comeback the Patriots completed against Miami in 1998 right? Bledsoe broke his finger in two places on the drive and yet still hit Shawn Jefferson for the game winner?

Well, there was another key part of that drive. On Third and Ten from around the Miami 40 yard line or so Bledsoe hit Ben Coates for a short gain (three yards I think). So now the clock is running and camera cuts to Carroll on the sideline pleading for a timeout. Keep in mind during this era ONLY players on the field could call time out. Apparently the team saw Carroll calling for a time out but still flat out ignored him and proceeded with a play anyway. The Pats converted the fourth down play and Carroll had a wide, happy grin following the Jefferson conversion, but it was still one of the most peculiar things I saw. The accouncers even made reference to "Terry Glenn is looking right at him. I don't know why he isn't calling a time out". I've never seen a team disrespect their coach in this manner. Fast forward to this year, and Carroll's players again are showing disrespect by publicly questioning the playcalling.

That game is one of my all time favorites

I remember that series well. It's the thing I remember most about carroll

I remember that very well, too. My now 17 year old eldest child had just turned 1  then. God I'm old. Wasn't there another crazy comeback vs Buffalo right around the same time.

My family was vacationing in Florida at the time. My brothers and I decided to turn our television on and watch the game despite being told to go to bed. We got a bit too loud after the conversion and were found out. The old man just shrugged his shoulders and told us to come watch with him.

Awesome game.

Yup, and it all fell apart against the rams.

I believe it was the very next week and despite winning the finger would wind up keeping him out and Zo took over.

yes, the Buffalo game was more of a 'gift' but hey we'll take it. If I recall correctly, the Pats were credited with a fourth down conversion to (again) Shawn jefferson in which both of his feet did NOT come down in bounds. This ws one of the games that had people screaming for instant replay.

Of course, on the next play Bledsoe tosses a a hail mary to the end zone. Glenn had a good shot at the ball but dropped it. Fortunately, the refs through a PI flag (that ws a gift too). Bledose then threw a 1 yard, untimed pass to Ben Coates for teh winning TD. Another fun fact, the Bills were SOOOOOO pissed off they stormed off the field. The Pats ran the extra point attempt with NO defense on the field. In fact, they had Vinatieri run it in for a 2 pt conversion.

Tom Jackson has all the answers

The following playoffs were the only time that Mark Brunell would ever beat the Pats...with his old cross state rival Bledsoe on the bench.

I also remember watching Bledsoe playing with a pin sticking out of the TIP of his broken finger. I saw that on TV and just cringed thinking about it.

Ah yes I remember that game. I was quite young at the time but I recalled something like that happening, I just couldn't pin point when. It was pretty funny.

Zo, firing his twin six guns
Gotta luv the wack job!

Crazy how sporting events remind you of your life's milestones. in 1998 we just got a golden retriever puppy. I remember her asleep in my arms during that last drive.

I also remember holding kid #2 who at the time was 1 week old during that 04 debacle in MIA when Brady had the worst 4th Qtr of his life.

Fun games vs Mia and Buff, but then there was the throttling by the Rams, followed up by a horrific display in NJ against the Green Scumsucking Douchebags. I had the misfortune of being at that game, and it was just pathetic.

Great game! I'm pretty sure I still have this on VHS!

I was there and remember it. Jefferson's sideline catch was incredible but it was VERY close with his feet and MIGHT have been ruled good with replay. Although as I recall, he was stretched out prone and it appeared his toes were in the air (not dragging) as he went out of bounds. Flutie claimed afterward he heard one ref say to the other, "Just give it to them." The PI call in the end zone was legit. Coates ran a great route in the back of the end zone along the back line for the winning catch.

They disrespected him all the way to the championship last year. He has a different kind of personality.

It wasn't a question of losing that Pats team, he never had a chance. daddy Parcells leaves the super bowl team like a scoundrel. Bobby Grier runs a back door complaining shop, and to top it off, his surfer style was just so out of touch.

I don't thin BB was exactly loved by his players at times with Cleveland. different styles, different circumstances. Tuna Carrol and BB are still among the greatest coaches of the era, and couldn't be more different.
