He's not calling him a weasel because he made a negative comment. You're completely downplaying what he said as some generic negative comment. If I say AndyJohnson is a deadbeat dad it's a negative comment. If I say I don't like the posts AndyJohnson makes here it's a negative comment. But one is my opinion, the other is stating something to be true that I don't know to be true.
It's pretty universal that making making negative statements about people as though they are facts is looked down upon much more than making negative opinions. Unless humankind changed significantly in the last few weeks I would say he's on solid ground calling him a weasel for behavior that's fairly universally accepted as weaselish. If you want to create your own standards of what's considered acceptable behavior in society feel free, but don't be surprised that nobody understands why suddenly being a hypocrite, and judging without evidence is considered normal behavior. It's not, and accept in rare cases like yourself it never will be.
Add in that he cheated by the same definition he accuses other's of and it doubles down on why people think he's a douche, or *******, or weasel or whatever word people commonly apply to those that exhibit such behaviors.
I guess we have a different viewpoint of the circumstances. In mine, the Patriots were already convicted in the media, due to leaks of inaccurate information. Rice just commented on the wrong information he received. Happens all the time, happens on this board.
I just don't buy into the idea that Jerry Rice is required to perform an investigation before commenting on something based upon all of the rumors. That puts him in the same category as everyone else.
The real culprit here is the people who leaked the incorrect information, and the NFL for allowing it, and not making a statement to correct it.
