Sounds Like Peyton Manning Is Coming Back

He's not coming back or making a comeback. He never left and is under contract. It's like saying Vince Wilfork is making a comeback or something.

They key to being really great is knowing when to walk away when you still at the top of your game, do we remember Favre when he was at the top of is game or in his last season??

No matter what he does he will never be considered as great as Brady..

Brett Favre was at the top of his game the season before he retired. He didn't win another Super Bowl, but he made the Vikings with Adrian Peterson into playoff competitors, and he had his best season statistically.

Kurt Warner brought the Cardinals to a Super Bowl and playoff berths after an abysmal time with the Giants. He did pretty well in the twilight of his career.

Peyton Manning, too, has surprised me in old age. He can play as well as he's ever played since coming back from neck surgery. I was wrong to count him out. If he comes back next season I'll consider him just as much a threat as he has been every year.

It also makes me believe Brady when he says he'll play into his mid 40s :)

Manning will get the All time yardage record pad his TD record and also get the most regular seasons record from Farve.

Brady will take the Most regular season record 2 years after Manning retires.

There will also be a sweet symmetry if Manning becomes the first QB in NFL history to break into double digits for one and done the same season that Brady becomes the first QB to reach double digits in Conference Championship appearances. :D

Manning is one of the greatest QBs in league history. While in his prime, he was the player I feared most as a NE fan. So many epic battles over so many years.

However : the "keep away" skit really turned me off. It wasn't "fun". It was foolish and it further showed that numbers might be more important to Manning than wins. I didn't like it.

How do you draw that conclusion from a bit of keep-away? I thought it was stupid, but that doesn't really indicate a thing.

Records mean a lot to everyone. Brady plays it down, but he's going for those personal milestones and those Montana records too. I like how Brady plays it down however...he doesn't want it to be about him. I think Manning could do a better job in hiding that, like Brady does. I would agree there.

I have often wondered if sometimes they have called plays to help him get those records...which I can't stand if so. I often saw them pass and go for the EZ in situations where it didn't make any sense to pass.

Overall, I am chuffed he is coming back. It makes the league far better with him in it and I would love to see Brady notch another one over him!

Denver is going to be a very interesting team to watch this off-season and early next year.

Rebounding from the loss is going to be hard for that team - it's not whether you win or lose, but HOW you win or lose that matters. There was obvious tension between Sanders and Manning last year, with Sanders mouthing off to him. Then you have Demarius Thomas's admission that guys in the locker room were openly expressing their fears of going back to New England to play the Pats.

Add on top of that the one of the worst games Manning ever played - he was simply awful in that game.

When the Pats lost to Denver two years ago, most NE fans were wounded, but we all knew that it was a miracle that Brady and BB got that hospital ward of a team to the AFCCG...and we all understood that just getting healthier in the off-season would make NE much better in 2014. Can Denver say that?

Let's throw in the very expensive Demarcus Ware's death spiral the last half of the year, key free agents in Thomas and Thomas and a team atmosphere that was shattered by season's end.

Denver looked like the team to beat for much of last season, and to the bitter end, I thought them (not the Ravens) to be the toughest out for New England. Now? I think they'll be fighting for their lives to win the West - San Diego and Kansas City are not pushovers.

Now? Well, let's just add in a new coaching staff to make things even more interesting.

Manning's better than Ostweiler, I expect, but should Denver even keep him at that cap hit with a new regime in place?

The records Brady concerns himself with are team accomplishments, ie wins reg season, playoffs points scored ect.

Manning will try to get a TD pass regardless, Brady doesn't care if the ball is run in or passed in as long as the team scores. Run 50 times to win? fine with Brady, Manning not so much he uses the same approach regardless of the opponent.

Big diff IMO.

Let's see. Denver is now coached by Gary Kubiak / Wade Phillips. What happened the last three times the Pats faced a team coached by this duo. BB and the Pats coaching staff probably are still laughing about this one.

Bet ten bucks he was coming back, easiest sawbuck I ever made. No way he was going to retire the nfl #2 stats-man, not when so close. The Peyton pro con checklist...
Pad stats to become #1 in qb accumulator categories - yes
Leave any money on table - no
Hurt team with now easily contained 1D attack - yes, but unimportant
Adjust game to play diminished role with a greater focus on other teammates. - no chance

Manning is Manning but lets not kid ourselves. TB has an ego just like everyone else and wants all the records. He wouldn't be human nor would he be our "Tom Brady" if he diddnt. Especailly against PM. He certainly puts the team first but he is impossible to yank out of games when the score is out of hand. He knows what he wants to be and the legacy he wants to leave. Thats the QB you want leading you into battle.

The most fiery/competitive guy (as many describe TB) docent rest on his laurels.

With him being 38, and knowing that one injury during garbage time could change or even end his carrer, it will be interesting to see if he manages his playing time more in the next few years.

Brady plays it down in the media...and good on him because I think he should do...but they mean a lot to him and he wants to achieve those records. Personal achievements are a big deal to everyone.

It's not a sin to want your name to be top of the record books in as many categories as possible. Just don't let those ambitions cloud your judgements or have a negative effect on the team.

If Brady could trade 1 playoff win (wild card round) for say the passing yards record or the passing TD record would he do it? One reg season win for both the above records?
I bet not. Although I think he would like to hold the ppg for an offense record (he currently trails A Rogers 28.1 to 28.5 ppg for the team.

I am glad Manning is coming back. Wish him all the luck in the world and even though he is on the decline i would love to see a Brady/Manning 1 more time.

Yep, stat boy (my nickname for Manning) will be back. He has always struck me as a person more concerned with himself and his stats than winning.

Denver "Receiver" Free Agents:

Julius Thomas, tight end
Demaryius Thomas, wide receiver
Wes Welker, wide receiver

Jacob Tamme, tight end
Virgil Green, tight end

I know he still has weapons, but wow! Also some big FA names on Defense...

No, be glad he is playing. He retires and he will probably get his own TV show.

I'd rather him have his own TV show, it's much easier to never turn that TV show on than to flip the channel every time a 30 second ad spot comes on.

I know it's a hobby around here to make fun of Peyton's one-an-dones, but there's 60 or so starting quarterbacks over the past 15 years who never even got a chance to stink it up in the playoffs. And many who only had a few chances to lose.

There's a compliment in there somewhere.
