Brady: “Earl was indecisive, thank God.”

I noticed this as well on one of several times watching the game replay. Even though Amendola is right there and no one else is an immediate threat, Thomas runs up next to Danny and then just stops, apparently choosing to sit in the zone over playing the only receiver in the area. Had he just kept going he would have been in perfect position for the pick.

This was a very good read, but I STILL get irked when a mediot assumes that if they had run the ball on 2nd down they would have scored. The Pats had a 8 to 6 advantage if he hands it off to Lynch

Folks! Get a bag of g##d#mn snacks and read this!

Say whatever you want about Peter King (I like his work, but I know and understand why others are irritated by him). This is the quintessential breakdown of the 4th quarter from Brady and McDaniels. Incredible insight.

Here's but one example of one play (about 1% of this opus) - - the first miss of Edelman in the end zone (the one they came back to later for the go ahead TD). This was at 8:04 left in the game:

"Brady: “There’s a mental part to a football throw and a physical part. The mental part is being decisive. Every throw is risk-reward. When you’ve played for 15 years, you have what I call ‘no-fear throws.’ Josh calls them that too. You’re confident, you know you’ve got it, and you just rip it. Some other throws, just before you let the ball go, you’re still not quite convinced that’s what you want to do. It comes right off your last fingertip, and you’re just not convinced. I admire Andrew Luck; he is so decisive for a guy who is so young. Aaron Rodgers, same thing. But this throw, the last thing I wanted to do was throw it to the other guy. Just as I let it go, I caught a glimpse of the DB [Simon]. He’s looking at me, I’m looking at him, as I let it go, it was a mental mistake, I got indecisive. My fault. I have had so many plays where I have made bad plays and I say, ‘I ain’t never doing that again.’ Josh has done such a good job trying to break down the mental blocks. Some of those decisions go right up to the time before the ball leaves your fingertips. On that one, it was, like, yes yes yes, NO! On my two interceptions in the game, the first one I should have called time because I just didn’t like what I saw, and then it was too late when I made the throw. Dumb throw. The second one, Bobby Wagner made a phenomenal play. He read my eyes. He got me. If I ever play those guys again, I will not lead Bobby Wagner anywhere with my eyes.”

Definite must read, King is great in this setting; others he isn't and it's not surprising Belichick isn't quoted in this article.

It's great to be coming into our Defending Champion season losing no coaches. I know some people hate Josh - and there's some things that drive me crazy - but Brady loves him and we're so, so lucky that he came back and is staying for another season.

I agree shmessy! Great write-up. Thanks for the link. :)

very helpful for guys like me who have stopped going to other sports sites.

The thing about the Brady comment you highlighted in the second post: this shows what a great opponent he is in tipping his hat at the awsome play Wagner made. I am just reminded how of Manning dismissed one of his INT in a game against us ...''...that guy [defender] isn't supposed to be there..." or soemthing to that effect casually implying that it was sheer luck that the INT resulted and not his bone-headed play. Joker!

Tom Brady - YOU DA Greatest of All Time and a great class guy off-field.

GO PATS!

Fantastic piece. Thanks for posting.

Bringing my comment from the other thread on this article....

Fun read, I would have liked more Brady and McD and less Darren Sharper.

I find it interesting that the subhead referred to 'Seattle's infamous interception...'

I think most everyone would have written 'Butler's infamous interception...', as it was clearly a great play by Butler. Sure, question the play call, but the play was Butler's.

Anyway, I'll read the article now...

:)

One of the key plays of the game was Brady's 3rd and 15 pass to Edelman. Brady's comments about the coverage and Julian being his last option made me realize how close they came to 4th and 15.

True, outside of New England, people tend to focus on the play call rather than Butler's play. Although, over the weekend I did see a number of media people talking about Butler's exceptional play but clearly not enough.

O'Brien the ST Coach, is retiring.

****Actually, on one of the miked up shows (not sure if it was Turning Point or Sound FX), Earl Thomas is sitting on the bench after the Amendola TD and, when asked by the player next to him 'What happened on that?", he answered 'I wasn't able to see the ball as it left Brady's hand'.

I'm wondering if he was screened and just couldn't get a good read on where it was going.

You're right. I guess I really meant McDaniels and Patricia, it's nice that the rush to hire our coordinators has stopped for now.

Also, I read somewhere this week that in the 2014 season Lynch had 5 carries from the 1 yard line.

TDs? 1.

Very good.

Thanks for posting, awesome read.
I love reading this 'behind the scenes' stuff, especially coming from Brady and hearing how much goes into his decision making. Concur about Josh - it all came together in this game with flying colors.

A lot of traffic on that play, it was not a perfect spiral because Brady needed to put a good touch on that ball to be in the perfect position to Amendola make the catch.
