WR in the 2015 draft

They won't give him up for a 7th. They have 60 million in cap space, and have nothing to lose by sitting on him. Besides the potential to gain players or draft picks. A 7th round pick would make no-sense on their part.

However considering 2 of our 3 6th round picks, and our only 7th didn't even make the 52 man roster, or practice squad. You have to think he is at least worth a 6th round pick
I know they wouldn't trade him for 7th, I was responding to someone who said they wouldn't trade him for a 7th. Trading Blackmon really doesn't make sense for jax as nobody would give up anything while he is suspended but if the nfl let him play next season then they would want him.

Tre McBride highlight video. It's a 15 minute reel of circus catches - McBride has fantastic body control.

BUT

The reason I'm posting it is because i want...no I insist (OK well hope)...you look at the catch at 5:15. Great body control and creative to boot.

As I watched my fair share of his tape over the past 3 weeks, he has defiantly moved up to one a spot where he warrants one our 3 3rd/4th rounds picks (96, 97, 98 I believe, don't quote me). I pretty sure well be able to grab smelter in the 6+, so I feel like taking him here would be perfect
My worries with him in the NFL is, his ability to separate from good press corners, he has never had to do it, so it worries me. His ability to catch & track the ball is right up there with OBJ and justin Blackmon( close enough for me), and his route running is good enough for me to grant him a decent rating. My only worry is his separation.

But that catch!!

Put him in the slot - Amendola replacement. Smelter becomes the Lafell backup and future outside receiver, McBride goes into the slot replacing Amendola.

One of my favourite prospects ever was Marvin Jones who went to the Bengals. McBride isn't quite as good as him but that's who he reminds me of with his body control and ability to high point the ball.

Body control comes from core strength. More receivers need to get in the pool and practice torquing their bodies in the weightless environment, which in essence replicates what it takes to reposition your body while in the air.

As good as that sounds, I feel it reduces to his best ability, in making contested, jump ball catches. You don't want to send him over the middle to do that, at least not if you want him to have a long career. lol.
Maybe in his early years. He is 6'2 205, and looks like he could add 5 to 10 lbs on his frame, which would make him a excellent out side candidate. **** make him work out with edleman, I swear that guy has gained like 25lbs of muscle in the past two years.
Then you send him over to Revis for a few lessons on how to get some separation. Im sure with the press corners we have, it's something you must learn to do even to succeed in practice.

Smelter is not a headcase. He can't be of interest to you as leader of the "Headcases-R-Us" Hawaii chapter.

Tell me how many receptions Josh Gordon will get next year; or how many the Jaguar headcase Blackmon got this past season. Great productvity!

You act like Im suggesting we become like Seattle and build a entire team out of headaches. Im just suggesting we bring in one or two of these troubled players to rehabilitate them.

So here's something, which I know is pure coincidence and means nothing but it moderately amuses me:

In 2011, BB worked out DE Allen Bailey pre draft. In 2012, BB drafted DE Chandler Jones.

In 2012 BB worked out LB Lavonte David. In 2013 BB draftedLB Jamie Collins.

In 2013, BB worked out Florida DT Earl Okine, in 2014 BB drafted Florida DT Dominique Easley.

In 2014 BB worked out 6'5 WR Kelvin Benjamin. In 2015, BB drafts 6'5" WR Devin Funchess?
I actually think BB would have taken Benjamin IF he would have fallen to our slot at 29 (he went 28th).

All this info if taken alone is interesting reading, but no more. I don't understand how anyone can want to waste any draft capital on any WR before the 6th round.....IF that. Don't you understand what we already have in young receivers. I don't understand how someone can get all wet watching college highlights and prefer that player over someone who already has over 40 catches in the NFL.

Between Tyms, Dobson, Boyce, Edelman, Lafell and Amendola, the Pats not only have a receiver corps that was good enough to be a top 10 passing game, top 5 offense, and win a superbowl, they will have one that will be even BETTER if left alone to continue to work with the QB. Why can't some people understand the concept and value of CONTINUITY

If some WR comes to us as an UDFA or low round pick and develops into a WR version of Malcolm Butler, I'm fine with that. But quite frankly, I don't see any WR that would be available to us where we will pick could bring us any better set of skills than what we already have in Dobson and Tyms. Given we will start the year with Lafell, Edelman, and Amendola, we have the time to be patient and develop these talents. BTW- this never considers what the Pats might do in integrate Tim Wright in the offense.

Already we have so many options and only one ball. Remember a #1 receiver is not a necessity for this offense. Besides all this incessant talk about WR's is taking away from my efforts to learn about who the best DT's, pass rushers and OG's are. ';)

In the SB, there were five receivers of significance. Of those five, there's a very real possibility that two, Vereen and Amendola, won't be with us next year. There are four more: Wright, Dobson, Boyce and Tims who made a negligible contribution last year (Wright started off well but faded badly). I like the potential of Boyce, Wright and Tyms in this offense but it would be foolhardy to rely on them. So that leaves the possibility of only three receivers of note in this offense - there's no harm in discussing replacements or a pipeline.

Just to add to this; I had only nine WRs on my own big board, three of which I had in my round 7/udfa tier. I had two in my first two round tiers (Coates and Devin Smith) and two others (McBride and Smelter) are binkies of mine. Another, Funchess might get added to my day one/round two tiers. So, at least from my perspective, it's not like I view a WR as a desperate need, but then the draft isn't always about needs.

I agree with this. I'd be shocked if the Pats drafted an impact receiver. Especially one that is taller than 6'0". Besides Moss and Lafell, there haven't been any impact receivers over 6'0" that have been a success in the Brady era. This offense is all about small shifty receivers who get yards after the catch.

That being said, I feel Belichick takes whoever is on his board when the pick comes around, so picking a stud receiver wouldn't shock me, nothing he does draft wise ever shocks me anymore. History tells us not to fall in love with the big receiver du jour though.

At 32, I want them to draft either DGB, Strong, or Devin Smith. DGB is kind of my favorite at the moment.

Still have hopes for Dobson , Boyce I gave up.

Tyms had only a good pre season and the TD against the Bills but I liked his posture in the sidelines giving a lot of support to his teammates when inactive, if he can improve his routes and football IQ he can turn into some kind of Bolden, not significant part of the offense but Ok to have in the roster. He can play ST too if Im not mistaken.

Heard my wr binky on a CBS interview yesterday. T. Lockett- k-St He's a 3x captain. Host asked him if teams are interested in that. He said most of em are. Was asked why he was voted captain. He said it was his job to get the players to do the things they "had" to do. Not, what they wanted to do. Oh yeah, he ran a 4.35

Definately on my radar as a Patriot type. Captain, leader, genes, production on O and ST's. Abdullah the RB is another guy I really like. Need another return guy and anything extra skill-wise is a bonus. Leadership and lockerroom guys are also high on my list.
