Boom!!! In 3AM Saturday Morning Tweet Jerry Rice Falls on His Sword

I don't play on twitter, but did Troy Aikman get the same shattered home when he started talking about Spygate?

I thought it was ridiculous for Aikman to be talking about an imaginary Patriots * over video taping defensive signals when his own head coach proudly admitted he did the same thing during his time with the Cowboys.

Aikman was cursing Brady for the EXACT same thing that anyone who did their research can curse Aikman for.

Nice catch. I hadn't made that connection!

Jimmy Johnson was Troy Aikman's coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Jesus, the hypocrisy.

It's almost as if by saying "All players do it", Rice is suggesting that minor forms of "cheating" are common throughout the NFL and that one franchise or one individual shouldn't be necessarily singled out for it.

I knew whenever someone on some sports channel said they want to be careful on this cause they are about to open up a whole can of worms...seems like it's too late...

The law of unintended consequences.

In their rush like rabid dogs, the media and the jealous haters are bringing everyone else's skeletons out of their closets. Apparently, the narrative that the Patriots are dirty cheatin' scum while everyone and everything else was pure and on the level was not quite the "truth" that they thought it was.

Why cant there be an Aikman's team cheated and won superbowls crusade. I am more annoyed with him than Rice.

Yeah.

I always call people out when whining about Crygate and not equally tarnishing the Cowboys Dynasty so it's always on the tip of my tongue anyway. Hearing Aikman try to tarnish Brady over it was disgusting.

"Oh in a heartbeat, yeah. Yes I did," Johnson said, before confirming it was done via video.
"Oh yeah, I did it with video and so did a lot of other teams in the league," Johnson continued. "Just to make sure that you could study it and take your time, because you're going to play the other team the second time around. But a lot of coaches did it, this was commonplace."

Hopefully guys like Jimmy Johnson coming out and saying how commonplace the practice of taping opponent's signals was will mitigate the rest of the country's fascination with Bill Belichek and the Patriots.
Jimmy gave us more:

He then detailed how he learned: "I was saying one of Marty Schottenheimers scouts, Mark Hatley, who has passed away now, Mark told me that's how they did it, and Howard Mudd their offensive line coach with Kansas City, who now coaches for Tony Dungy, he was the best in the entire league at stealing signals."
And his methods: "My guy was up with my camera crew in the press box. So you'd just put an extra camera up with your camera crew in the press box who zoomed in on the signal callers. That's the best way to do it, but anyway you can't always do that because the press box camera crew might be on the same side as the opposing team. If they're on the same side as the opposing team that's when you need to do it from the sideline."

So twitter users should bury Aikman too.

Aikman the cheater with tarnished Superbowls who should be penalized worse than the Saints

I know people wont like this but at least he manned up to it...that took a LOT, his legacy is on the line.

I am grateful he came out.

The truth will set you free..

Bull$pit!

He PUBLICLY proclaimed the Patriots legacy is tarnished forever by something that hasn't even been PROVEN yet!!!!

So you are giving a walk to someone who KNEW full well he himself did something illegal to NFL footballs and then goes out and publicly judges someone else who is merely ACCUSED of doing something illegal to NFL footballs.

Interesting application of ethics.

Just to refresh our memories of one of the many things that Dallas Cowoys Coach Jimmy Johnson has publicly (and admirably) said on the matter of filming the sidelines.

Q: How about the spying thing Jimmy. You’re a coach does that bother you what Belichick did?

JJ: Oh please. I’ve said it on our show. Eighteen years ago a scout for the Chiefs told me what they did, and he said what you need to do is just take your camera and you go and zoom in on the signal caller and that way you can sync it up. The problem is that if they’re not on the press box side you can’t do it from the press box, you have to do it from the sideline. This was 18 years ago.

Q: You think the NFL came down too hard on them?

JJ: No, no, I said it on the show. He was wrong for doing it for the simple reason that the league knew this was going on not just in New England but around the league. And the league sent out the memorandum to all of the teams saying you cannot do this. And so that’s when Bill Belichick was wrong. After he got the memorandum saying don’t do it any more, he did it.

Q: Did you ever steal signals?

JJ: Oh in a heartbeat, yeah. Yes I did.

Q: Via video, Jimmy? Or no?

JJ: Oh yeah, I did it with video and so did a lot of other teams in the league. Just to make sure that you could study it and take your time, because you’re going to play the other team the second time around. But a lot of coaches did it, this was commonplace.

Q: But did you do it by taping the signal caller?

JJ: Yeah.

Q: Oh you did.

JJ: That’s what I’m saying. I was saying one of Marty Schottenheimer’s scouts, Mark Hatley, who has passed away now, Mark told me that’s how they did it, and Howard Mudd their offensive line coach with Kansas City, who now coaches for Tony Dungy, he was the best in the entire league at stealing signals.

Q: Where’d you put your guy who was videotaping? Where was he?

JJ: My guy was up with my camera crew in the press box. So you’d just put an extra camera up with your camera crew in the press box who zoomed in on the signal callers. That’s the best way to do it, but anyway you can’t always do that because the press box camera crew might be on the same side as the opposing team. If they’re on the same side as the opposing team that’s when you need to do it from the sideline.

The best thing about raking guys like Sticky Rice and Tapin' Aikman over the coals is if the campaign is effective enough, these guys will have no choice but to start defending the Patriots.

So many glass homes to break, I think we could really turn the legacy of Crygate around full circle.
