This Was Nice, But 2/7/2016 Is The Big One

the @ Dallas game is gonna be a beauty...probably a monday nighter for sure. I might fork out some serious dough to go fly out to see that one. I've always wanted to see that stadium in person. Dallas was very balanced this year and could have beat Seattle in their house.
New England vs Dallas could also be on Thanksgiving! It will be a primetime game for sure!

My thoughts on the future, based on watching there NFCW with the hometown Cards.

The Seahawk myth has been punctured. They are a great Defense but possess a very mediocre Offense.

Their Offense doesn't possess a conventional QB who can stand in the pocket and deliver a good passing game. Wilson is Fran Tarkenton II; and Wilson won some games with a great D just like Tark did, with the Purple People Eaters. Both need the Great D to hold opponents scoring to the level the Offense can equal and surpass, namely the low 20s.

But the Offense was always carried by the Defense and the team never really won the Big One. (although they did in 2013).

The Seahawk Offense is one great RB and just competency elsewhere, incapable of scoring much more than the mid 20s. Aside from Wilson and Lynch where are the Offensive stars? The team isn't deep anywhere except on the Defensive front 7. Even there leaks appear to be springing up.

Belichick even revealed weaknesses hitherto unseen in the Hawk D. Their "Big CBs" can be out-quicked by agile smaller receivers. Their fabled blitz Pass Rush can be neutralized by a running game and dink and dunk with YAC.

I expect that the Hawks will have trouble beating the Cards and Rams when they have healthy QBs; and even the 49ers, with the fraud Kaepernik exposed, could give them a tussle next season. First to Last in the NFCW is not unreasonable, in 2015.

OTOH, BB has been reconstructing a Super Bowl winner since 2009, after the dynastic players grew old and had to be replaced. He did this while still winning,

He has one now, with a Great Defense top to bottom. The Offense is merely good, but has stars in Brady, Gronk, Edelman, and the tackles. He even took a miss-shapen Team to a SB berth in 2011, amidst the rebuilding.

The 2014 Patriot edition was not as good as the 2015 and 2016 editions will likely be. A deeper more talented Offensive line is in the offing, along with more mature receiving talent and likely even better RBBC talent, too.

The Pats are getting Dominique Easley back PLUS 5 of the first 97 picks in this year's draft!

As noted elsewhere:

2015 New England Patriots Draft:
1 first round pick
1 second round pick
2 third round picks (includes Denver's comp for Talib signing)
2 fourth round picks (one of which is the #1 pick of the fourth round - Tampa for the Mankins trade)
1 sixth round pick (#1 pick of the sixth rd- Tampa Casillas trade our 5th for their 6th, a difference of 1 spot )
2 seventh round picks (one of which is the #2 of the seventh round - from Tenn from the Ayers trade which included our 6th for their 7th a difference of 2 spots)

Goodell and his lackey, Kensil will make sure that doesn't happen...I expect them to make the Pats forfeit their first three rounds.

BTW, with those 5 top 97 picks, I would like:

2 Nasty Guards - - it's time
1 DT
1 LB
1 Deep threat WR to push Tyms/Boyce off the roster or make them win it. I expect a healthy Dobson.

who? Dobson? I can't imagine Dobson playing in a game like 49...he'd have broke another ten bones all over his body from fright.

D tackle, O guard, ILB...then whoever floats your duck boat

Hardy har har.

You would have same the exact same thing about Amendola 8 weeks ago.

Dobson was never healed and was rushed back.

Preferably a big one with a large catch radius to accommodate for Brady's relative lack of precision on the deep ball. One that actually runs more than a go route too. Brady is amazing in the short and medium ranges, so we need to continue to complement that aspect of his game. A guy like Devin Funchess peaks my interest.

Maybe Jerry Rice would be the face of the game, as you say? Or maybe Charles Haley!!!

If he is, I hope he sticks around for the celebration afterwards.

No shmess, I would NOT have...I respect Amendola and his toughness. Every player gets dinged up. I'm talking about heart, and from what I've seen, Dobson has little if any. If he had 1/10th of KT's will and guts, he'd have been the starter from day 1 and Thomkins wouldn't have even made the cut. We'll see...he's going into his third season with the grand total of 40 catches. I want a little more production from a supposed #1 WR. I'm not asking for Sammy Watkins or Dez Bryant, just PLAY the snaps those guys do.

He's not Watkins or Bryant, but he's a good player who's going to produce next year. He's a nice intermediate threat and damn near uncoverable on those 15 yard comebacks.

Wait...are people really clamoring for an undefeated season less than a week after a SB victory?

"Because even though success is a reality, its effects are temporary. You get hungry even though you've just eaten ... You're happy with 50%? You're on top and you don't have enough. You're happy because you're successful. For now. But what is happiness? It's a moment before you need more happiness. I won't settle for 50% of anything. I want 100%. " -Don Draper

Dobson could be cut as early as training camp if he doesnt start showing something. No more excuses next season.

19-0? Why not 38-0?

(Any oldschool IndyStar board PatsFans?)

Tim Wright exploding next year would be nice. 6 TDs with no training camp and off season.

As much as I share in this fantasy, what are the odds that this once laughing stock franchise now earning 10% of all Superbowls..

Talent and coaching are part of the troika, but you need a little bit of luck as well... a few things have to fall into place..

If we make it to the "Bowl" I expect a win..

I was wondering of that would be a Thanksgiving day game.

Some comments on the comments

1. I think we should all know by now that checking a roster and making determinations of who will be better is NOT a good way to predict how good a team will be. Superbowl winners aren't determined on paper.

2. We should all know that there is a lot of luck and good fortune to even get to a superbowl. Luck with injuries are foremost. For the first time in a long time, last season was a good one for the Pats with injuries, and STILL we lost our defensive captain, starting RB, and #1 draft pick. You also have to get lucky in games with a few good call and/or bounces. Just look at the GB/Seattle game, or the Dallas, Detroit game. Sometimes great football isn't enough.

3. Never underestimate the toll a superbowl run takes not only on the team, but the organization. 87% of the teams FO's have had about a month lead on us in preparing for next season. 87% of the players in the league have a month longer to heal, and far fewer hits to recover from. The combine is just 2 weeks away and the Pats staff haven't had a day off since early last July. The fact is that you never get that month back

4. The players not only need a break, so does BB and his guys. They need some time to relax and unwind, or they will burn out. Fortunately BB knows through trial and error the best ways to avoid it, but the issue still exists. Its a great problem to have, but it still IS a problem

5. There is no question that this team is going to be significantly better than last year's version. for the following reason (and assuming most of everyone comes back)

a. The OL will continue to improve with talent upgrades from the draft and/or FA
b. Continuity with the WR group will bring improvements there
c. The Defense as a whole is very young and the key parts are just now entering their primes
d. The DL will continue to improve with new additions from the draft and Easley, and FA

6. That being said, while I feel confident that this team is good enough to predict another run to the playoffs, trying to predict what happens in the next 3 or 4 games is just a guess.
