Brady's "Weapons are lousy"

Manx - Vereen being back has nothing to do with needing another WR.. Vereen being back has to do with having a 3rd down RB who can block and catch out of the backfield..

You also seem to be forgetting Tim Wright.. The forgotten man. I think that, regardless of what happens with Amendola or Vereen, Wright becomes a bigger part of this offense next year.

On a separate note, I probably won't be following the draft much because I've started my own business and that has taken up a lot of time I'd normally be putting into research on players and such..

It's a shame you won't be joining us too much. I wish you success with your business.

Yes I did forget Weight, I realised thAt after I wrote that post. I also realised there's a good reason I forgot him. He doesn't do anything. Maybe he'll get better but I'm not relying on it.

As for Vereen, the guys a virtual WR. There's only so many receptions to go round. I think Vereen very much affects the acquisition of another receiver.

Amendola was a good matchuip against the big secondary of Seattle, but i still think he goes to a team that needs a slot receiver - he's too similar to edelman.

I think they'll pick up a more versatile WR.

Probably why Wright wasn't used much. His size wasn't a big adavantage against Seattle. I too would like to see him grabbing some TDs next year.

I would like to see them bring Vareen back. As we saw last night, he's a valuable piece of the puzzle. Not sure what it will cost to do this though?

I think this group fits what Brady wants to do and can do. He's not the best long ball thrower in the league. A go long "stud" WR may be a waste here. I've really changed my thinking on that this year.

Note: this will get me 20+ disagrees.

I think there may be more to it. Not sure if it is true, but I read that he wasn't with the team in AZ.

He was in AZ and at the champ game celebrating with Brady. He was at team photos. Dobson was there

Actually, I think you'll get a lot of agrees.

A guy like a healthy Dobson - who I don't view as a Willie Gault guy but more of like a intermediate threat outside the numbers would be a nice addition. However, I dont think he'd get the ball a lot. 40 catches maybe?

Personally, I'd like to see them add to the D-line with a pass rusher (what Easley's promise is), add some power to the o-line and maybe add a more talented Dillon-type RB that can get them 1300-1400 yards next year.

Wishful thinking..

The people lobbying for a big play receiver are thinking of all aspects. Lets say Marshawn walks into the end zone and they go up by 3 with 30 seconds to get in field goal range. This is when having a receiver that can consistently get open deep comes in handy. Dobson was brought in to do this but we all know that story..... Edelman worked his tail off and had 9 for 109 while a 4th receiver scrub can play pitch and catch with 4 for 109. Seattle had us clearly beat but the football gods were smiling on us, had they won it would have mostly been because of the deep ball and most of our SB losses have come from deep balls so I understand there logic. But hey if dink and dunk wins us another superbowl i'm all for it.
LOL we weren't clearly beat. Seattle was only close to winning because of a flukey play. Seattle maybe had the game in control in the 3rd Q. Maybe. But the pats owned the game. The pats were the better team and won because they were.

Also what did moss do after the Giants scored the winning td in 07. Nothin and he was about as good as receiver as their ever was.

SEATTLE WAS CLEARLY BEAT, remember that

I see your point but you and I both saw us down by 10 points late and roared right back. Fact is we couldn't stop lynch from at least gaining at least two yards on every play and even as a pats fan and Homer I couldn't see us stopping him on the 1 ydline, if you fault me for feeling that way fine but IF he scores we have to go deep to get in field goal range and that's where you need a deep guy. If it makes you feel better they didn't have us definitely beat but our back were on the ropes. And they were doing it by going deep, remember the deep ball has beat us in two bowl games as I'm sure you remember.

Tim Wright is a pretty good receiving threat to not make it onto the field due to the Patriots' superior options.

As for deep threats -- Brady's accuracy on deep balls has never been good. So unless the Pats find a guy who can adjust like 2007 Randy Moss, it's probably not the top priority.

We need a 3rd WR AND a 3rd down running back. Going into the offseason without Amendola and without Vereen would leave us severely weakened, even if we have a #2 TE that can catch the ball.
=======
Most of us finally agree that Brady is awesome in the short game, and that will be Brady's game unless Moss suits up.

If that is true, and it is, then isn't the situation that we NEED three quality receivers. The fact that we don't have a true #1 worth meg-bucks shouldn't mean that we can't pay for the #3 WR or for the #rd down RB. Some would say that not paying the top receivers big bucks frees up money for the #3 WR and the 3rd down RB.
============
I hear so many saying that we will have no trouble picking up a #3 WR or a 3rd down RB to replace DA and Vereen. Anyone with a memory understands just how hard it is to replace players in Brady's offense.

Most guys on IR don't stick around the team.. Mayo, Bruschi, Ty Law, Vince Wilfork were exceptions because they were marquise players.

They can always use an upgrade.I think brady forces the ball at times because of this.
The biggest dissapointment no doubt is dobson. I have no faith in that guy turning it around.

Just remember people had no faith in Edelman making the team a couple of years ago. Look at him now.

I came away from this season that our pass catchers are more than good enough. I'm on the boat with getting a RB that can grind out the tough yards to help out Brady, even when the defense knows your going to run it. Brady hasn't had that since Dillon.

C-H-I-L-L-A-X! ALWAYS Have Faith.
I think premise was Amendola was signed here to replace (or try to) Welker. I don't think lots of people thought Edelman would Step Up in that role. I think Edelman was more clutch than Welker. JE came up BIG in spots, YAC definitely held on to tough receptions in traffic. I never doubted JE ability I never thought he would become receiver he is.

AZPats, With that said, I must admit that even though I always keep'da faith I wondered at times what BB had up his cut sleeves with moves/non moves but with TB & BB we'll ALWAYS have a chance.

I would not be shocked to see Ahmad Bradshaw and Denarius Moore signed for next yr. Won't be too pricey and should produce with this offense.

Interesting to see how Ridley plays out here. I believe he's a URFA not sure.

1st, I think drafting a WR at this point in Brady's career is a waste of time.....how many of the recent ones even got the light of day? With the few years left for Brady, the pats need to focus on getting the right vets in here.....they have lafell amendola and Edelman as guys who Brady appears to be comfortable with......keep em.....a Larry Fitzgerald will not be affordable and will not produce good ROI, and I don't think you can improve on what we have for the same price. The other WRs need to be special teams contributors who are viable 4th and 5th options. Maybe draft a high production guy like Ty Montgomery if he can do returns too

A full year with Edelman as well as an amendola and lafell that Brady is already comfortable with is already an improvement I've last year

If the team wants to extend TB's career as long as possible, that means reducing his exposure to the hits and continuing to fortify the defense where they can control games. That means...

-More cover DBs
-More pass rushers
-More OLs that can pass AND run block.

As I eluded to, getting a Dillion-type in the backfield is a pipe-dream but having a talented o-line than drive block for Blount, Gray, maybe Ridley, etc would go a long, long way to improving the chances of TB playing at a high-level into his early 40s.

There are Brady haters around the internet who point to short passes and large YAC, and try to argue that his success is primarily due to his receivers. I don't agree, because a short pass in stride has a degree of placement/timing difficulty rivaling that of a conventional deep pass. Still, it underscores that the receiving corps isn't bad either.
