EDIT:

Apparently Chevy will be giving him his own truck not the one given to Brady

lol @ the mere existence of a gift tax

I think it exists to close a loophole that would otherwise be abused. At least I'm assuming that is the reason because if not, it is completely ridiculous. But the estate tax/death tax does come to mind here.

Good job, Chevy!

Maybe in the future the MVP truck will be like the prizes for celebrities on game shows -- we'll give your prize to whoever (in my example whichever charity) you ask.

And the value of the publicity all around will far exceed that of the prize itself.

So, he still has to pay about 40 percent of the overall value of the truck (actually something in the 39 percent range), since that's where he falls in the tax bracket?

Since the truck is valued at approx. 34,000, Brady will still be looking at something around 13,500--14,000.

The "gift tax" that is being waved is supposedly about 8,000.

EDIT: It looks like ALL of the taxes may be waived, as Chevy has reportedly removed Brady from the equation entirely. If that's the case, then Butler will be the one on the hook for the taxes (minus the "gift tax" of course).

Thank goodness someone is giving this guy a truck.

It's not to close a loophole, it's mainly about the second thing you said -- the death tax. It's to make giving something away while living the same as leaving it in your will.

But the death tax is a stupid tax to begin with. Not a significant source of revenue for the government. It comes from a resentment of inherited wealth.

I'd bring it to the nearest Dodge dealership and put it towards a new Ram, but that's just me. Either way, good on Chevy.

makes no sense to give a vehicle to a multi millionaire. If they want a cetain vehicle, they can go buy the exact model, color that they want

Remember that Chevy doesn't select the MVP. :)

Butler must milk as much as he can out of this. Truth is : Bradys are few and far between. Most NFLers are in and out of the league with little savings to support their post football life. Take everything you can, my friend. You are already on your way : by taking the ball from that stinky Seahawks WR last Sunday.

I think even non Patriots fans had to be touched by the story of a division two undrafted free agent making the Super Bowl winning play and bawling his eyes out and being so humble after. Its free advertising plus empathy all rolled into one cash cow bonanza.

wouldnt it be funny if Jeep was the sponsor and they award brady a jeep Patriot? (pos vehicle i know)

Lots of cheap publicity for GM, they must be loving this.
