Great point on executing intentional penaltiies (that certainly would have prevented hte TD and killed the clock).

The real kicker on this drive was the run they allowed on the first play of the series (a big run by Turbin).

That was a classic "GIVE UP RUN" with the outside chance of it being a 'drive starter' if we execute the play well. Same thing happened to us in SB 38. We gave up a cheap 3 points at the end of the half there and worst yet, this one resulted in a 7 pt mistake. I'm sure glad we won so that I won't have to dwell on this all off season. It's FAR FAR much easier to rehash knowing we got the victory.

I think the common problem on these drives (other than tall receiver issues) is that Collins got sucked into the backfield to start both drives. In the first half, it was after the "give up run," which was more of a feeler play. Time was still sthort - 25 seconds at the 40 yard line. Collins got sucked upfield and let Wilson get into field goal range right away, freeing him up for downfield throws, and did the same on the Lynch wheel route before the 2-minute warning. Those were some ugly teaching moments. I hope Collins considers himself extremely lucky that they came cheap at the end of the game.

Collins and the 4 Rutgers players didn't have a overall great game. I don't find any issues with Arrington's play other than hands to the face penalty - he was put in position to fail.

They even took a timeout to get the defense right before the last play of the half and that is the defense they came up with? That was terrible.

Also noticed how upset butler was at giving up a catch to kearse- while Harmon showed zero awareness on the play. He could easily have intercepted the ball with better awareness.

It was a bang-bang play in real time, but I thought these guys were trained to go for the ball. Maybe he was trying to avoid hitting Kearse when he was on the ground and getting a penalty for hitting a "defenseless receiver."

Butler made a great play and yet he was beating himself up. The guy is a gamer. I hope that The Pick is the beginning of his fame in the NFL and not the end of it.

I think the refs can award a td in the event a team makes an intentional penalty, and I suspect with Deflategate hanging about, the Pats didn't want to deal with another cheating allegation and the risk of the refs coming down hard. Thus, Deflategate cost us 4 pts.

Ed Reed said the exact same thing on Inside the NFL this week. The Pats DB's and LB's should have immediately grabbed the Seahawks receivers.

Yeah, I saw that. Thanks for the link.

I guess technically the responsibility lies with BB since he's HC and gets the big bucks, but, in reality, I think this one belongs on Patricia's shoulders.

I give a lot of credit to Carroll for having the guts to risk points on that play. He knew the chance he was taking; you can hear him reminding Wilson on the sidelines to remember that "we've got points," when he decides to go for the endzone. Still, he goes for it. Risky call.

In a game that was won because Butler was so well-coached, we'd now be looking at the four point difference between a TD and FG on that play and laying at least part of the blame for the loss on poor coaching by the Pats, if the Seahawks had won by three after that final drive.

Instead of the storyline out of the game being about Carroll's "mistake," it would be about his "brilliance" in going for a TD on that play. It shows how fragile and unreliable the Conventional Wisdom is when it comes to these guys.
