One thing that I noticed from the show was the difference between Belichick and Carroll on the sidelines. The cameras showed Belichick coaching up both the offense and defense, talking technique, what to look for when Seattle was in certain formations, how to not over pursue during cutbacks etc.

All Carroll was shown doing was clapping and cheering and chewing gum and patting guys on the back.

It's probably just an editing thing, but to me it showed Belichick being the master coach and Carroll being the head cheerleader

Excellent observation. I mentioned this to my 8 year old, who made the awesome comment, "Yeah, mom. He's acting like a cheerleader and they already have a bunch of those!" I swear they showed the Seahawks cheerleaders a ton on that show.

He also comes across as a calming and positive influence on his guys, which I don't think many wold give him credit for.

He doesn't get any credit for his sideline demeanor other than the usual tired snarkiness about his never cracking a smile. But it is such a good thing that he never gets high or low. It keeps guys calm and focused. Carroll's method might be successful when things are going well, but when they are not, the cheerleading style does nothing at all for the team. You can't keep cheerleading or you look like a moron and if you start acting subdued, then that won't do much for a team used to the high energy.

I thought it was kind of weird that after the Wilson TD right before halftime Carroll was babbling to someone on the sidelines something like "HE could have missed it, but he didn't! etc. etc." and the guy he was talking to looked bored and dismissive. I think Pete might be a tad grating to those around him.

Also of note….the Seahawks seem to mention that they "belong here" a lot. Do they have an inferiority complex? Good grief, they were the reigning champs. And Wilson kept reminding everyone to have confidence in him. I was kind of surprised by that….is that fallout from his awful NFC championship performance?

You guys have to hear a conversation between Vinovich and Bennett. Bennet was complaining that Vollmer was putting his hands to his face all the time and that he has to call it, and he says he has got kids. I will not spoil it for you, you have to listen to Vinovich's reply, the guy was the best ref for this game.

That was almost an Antonio Cromartie like response from Bennett to Vinovich's question.

Also mildly interesting is that the Patriots actually says the name of their opponents while all other teams just us numbers.
e.g. Brady and Josh saying Lane was out, while Kearse and his coaches saying 25 is out and 21 is in.
Then Bevill says, he was burnt on a go route in Miami in week one, so go at him. LOL.

Brady did say "Good hit, 72!" but yeah, overall they did use names more.

Sounds pretty awesome. When is this going to be on NFL.com?

I am thinking that this goes back to how Belichick prepares his players, and hits them up with questions and quizzes during the week prior to a game. Players are expected to know every tendency, strength and weakness of their opponent; it would stand to reason that they would be expected to know the name and not just the number.

Bill Belichick: The NFL's Scary Alex Trebek - WSJ

Quick, Bill Belichick has a few questions for you: Describe the third player from the left on the Indianapolis Colts’ kickoff coverage team. Is he fast? Is he strong enough to run you over? Where did he play in college?

Whoops, you took too long to answer. Belichick is now angry at you.

“I would hate to walk by him in a hallway on a Thursday if I was unprepared,” said Heath Evans, a former Patriots fullback who is now an analyst for the NFL Network. “He’s stopping and asking me about a player on special teams. ‘Can he wiggle? Who did he match up against last week on kickoffs and how did he win that matchup?’ There’s no limit to the knowledge Bill expects you to have on an opponent and the craziest part is he has the answers to all of it.”

Players say the quizzes are vital when they are on the field. Veterans who have played for multiple teams said the questions, and the anxiety that comes with being unprepared, contribute to a team that studies harder than just about anyone.

“Sometimes he’ll hit you with a couple real tough questions. But you’ve got to know that. And it’s not him just asking questions— it’s him trying to depend on us, us showing that we know what’s going on,” said safety Patrick Chung. “It keeps our minds going, it’s a daily thing... if you can anticipate certain things, or you know the game plan inside out, it makes it a lot easier to play fast. If you’re thinking about stuff, it’s impossible to play fast.”

After that the NFLN becomes a bit less watchable for a few days. Other than a one-hour retrospective on Jim Brown, there are a lot of spotlight pieces that I won't be watching: Marshall Faulk, LaDanian Tomlinson, Cris Carter, Mike Tomlin, Jerry Rice, Richard Sherman, etc.

@jmt57: You might want to make a thread out of your last post. :)

For those of us unable to access it right now, what was the full conversation like?

Not enough!

Reminds me of when Freddie Mitchell admitted before the Pats /Eagles Bowl that the only Patriots DB that he could name was Rodney Harrison.

For those of us unable to access it right now, what was the full conversation like?

He hesitated noticeably before reciting his kids' ages when the ref asked him

Was it just me but between the fist bumps, the friendly conversations, the pats on the butt weren't the officials awfully friendly with the seaChickens?

What burned me the most was the drive before half time. Wilson asks what are we gonna do here and Bevell is non committal and says well not sure lets see if we can pop one (which Turbin then does) Then later on Carroll calls for the FG team but Arringtons penalty gets them to like the 8 and they decide to throw one up. Total and utter mess that drive we gave up and still burns me.

I agree. Arrington did not play his best, to be kind. I also thought that the series of downs preceding
Brady's 1st-quarter INT could have been executed better by HooHah & Blount.

That moment between Brady and Josh is really special.

"We did it Josh!"
"Aw that's awesome, man!"

Love it. These two have been through a lot, come so close. The joy in Brady's voice and the emotion in Josh's - obviously a lot of respect - but I get the feeling Josh is just so happy for Brady in the tone of his voice.

Could watch that looped over and over again.

They're replaying the game again. I think this is the 5th time I've watched it. Can't get enough.

Wife & I watched the game, the Sound FX and the Showtime. Then we watched The Brady 6 again tonight.
My wife said, "I'd call our daughter & tell her but she'll think we're crazy & have you committed."
I have "wasted" the entire week on the Patriots. I can't stop. Even today at the gym on the elliptical I saw espn which I never watch where they had Bruschi, Ninko, Vereen & Emily Blunt.
