I think that we will not able to retain all the cheap player that helped us win the fourth, so I'm trying to find young players that can fill their role.

In particular I think that a good run-stopping DT to grow behind Big Vince e Siliga is better than an aging veteran on a non-minimum salary contract.

So, who do we have in this class? I read about Eddie Goldman, is he good?

Some like him although I'm not a huge fan personally. He probably projects as a better Alan Branch although i'm not convinced the upgrade would be worth a first round pick. But there are some who really like him. @mayoclinic sees some Suh in him. There are 5 D-linemen that probably project to the top 40:

Jordan Phillips - very athletic and huge but a sophomore and raw
Carl Davis - Spotty Iowa film but dominated at Senior Bowl. Very strong with some quickness.
Arik Armstead. Very long and strong. Definite 5-tech although i'm not sure how well he projects to the interior of a DL
Malcom Brown - Not quite Wilfork's size but he's a close approximation of what Wilfork offers the team. Not sure he's dominant enough to warrant a first round pick.
Eddie Goldman - Doesn't offer enough of a pass rush that for me. Haven't seen wow film personally but as I said, there are those who like him more than I.

What if we trade down (I think it will happen). Do you think one of this guys can still be available in the early 2nd?

That's up in the air at the moment. I think Goldman can be had with a trade back and Malcom Brown will probably go around our first round pick. Carl Davis is a hard one to judge, but again he's probably going somewhere between 25-50. Jordan Phillips could go high because he's a freak and Arik Armsted in interesting; CBS rank him at 38 currently but ESPN have him as a top 15 pick.

It would be cheaper and more effective to re-sign Branch. Why waste a 1st round pick to replace a guy you can sign for 2M a year if that?

If we are looking later in the draft for a developmental DT we should consider: Xavier Williams, Terry Williams, Leterrius Walton, Tyler Davison and one of my favs is Derrick Lott but he is not a heavy in the wilfork and branch mold. I see Lott as a Chris jones/Vellano upgrade. Another late favorite is David Parry.

Michael bennett of ohio state is intriguing and is also coached by urban meyer.

A rookie to have the same impact as Branch is realistic, we all hope for the next JJ Watt or Suh but that happens once every 10 years. A younger Branch is needed because both Branch and Wilfork could be gone.

The guy I like at DT is Ellis McCarthy of ucla.
