If Lockette catches that Touchdown pass, what would people be saying….?

what if duron harmon, rather than being too busy trying to hurdle over kearse actually took the time to stop and grab the bouncing ball or at a minimum try in the smallest possible way to disrupt kearse's juggling act? what was the deal with trying to jump as far out of bounds as possible?

Yes, I thought the exact same thing. The only thing I can think of is that it was just instinct.

He thought the ball hit the ground which is really seemed like it did. If he hit Kearse late it could have been 15 yards which would have been huge at that point.

Anyway the Kearse is over.

We would be saying that Carroll won because of two gutsy calls at the end of the half and the end of the game, and we would be cursing our luck of losing a third SB because of a circus catch.

Seattle has the best defense of all time

Russell Wilson is "special"… so very very special

Russel Wilson/Marshawn Lynch read option is unstoppable. New era of QB, Brady pocket passing is outdated.

Seahawks are the new dynasty with back to back SB's. Will surpass New England as the new dynasty. Passing of the guard from Brady to Wilson.

Pete Carroll is the best coach right now. Seahawks are "special"

Genius play call to trick New England by passing for that Touchdown when our defense was lined up to stop the run. It's funny how when something works its a genius decision… and when it doesn't work (due to good coaching/preparation by New England, and an amazing play by Butler) then it's the WORST CALL EVER.

New England is cursed by miracle catches (Jermaine Kearse). New England is cursed in Arizonas stadium.

Brady/Belichick can't win without spy gate and deflated footballs. You know there wouldve been one or two people who wouldve said this. In fact prostitute solicitor/assaulter Warren Sapp said something about this the morning of the SuperBowl on NFLNetwork.

Brady chokes in big games. Instead of talking about his 4 TDs and game winning drives in the 4th qtr, they would be talking about his 2 INT's.

Brady is .500 in SuperBowls. Not the best ever. Not even close. End of discussion.

Belichick made the worst decision ever by not calling a time out. Worst clock management ever by leaving time for Seattle, and then not calling timeouts. The media wouldve been all over this, taking Belichick bashing to a new high.

Isn't it funny how one play changes history and legacies?!

A game winning INT in the SuperBowl is amazing. But to make it on the freaking goal line was just unbelievable.

Thank you Butler…. for re-writing the stories that everyone in the media was dying to write.

IDK but on a side note I keep hearing by the radio geniuses how dumb it was to go to their 3-4 receiver for a SB game winner. Really? Guess what they'd been killing us with the 3-4 guys(see TD before halftime), who do you throw the ball to in that situation a blanketed Baldwin or Kearse?

You beat us on our 3rd CB like you've been doing.

I don't want to think about losing that game, so I'm with the others, It'd of been the best 10-20 second drive in SB history....:)

They would be saying that the campaign of revenge against the haters and their weasel friends in the media is just the bad blood of losers.

As it is, beware our righteous wrath, ye sinners!

Wouldn't have to listen to Charles Haley complaining about taints.

I DID think of the parallel universe theory at that moment, Bingo...

Cue Twilight Zone theme....

Cue voice over:

"The human mind.

"We barely comprehend its power.

"You are about to enter a world where the combined mental energy of several million sports enthusiasts, when faced by a defeat they could not bear to accept, created a parallel reality in which their team achieved an improbable, some would say impossible, victory.

"But, you are about to learn that nothing is impossible in...The Butler Zone..."

Cut to shot of Wilson handing off to Lynch, who takes the ball into the end zone from the one.

Cut to shot that shows thousands of screaming, crestfallen fans in Patriots gear and then a graphic that first displays a beam of white light entering their brains and that continues to display an enormous array of red, white and blue neurons firing madly as they emerge from the beam and enter Butler's brain on the field.

Cut to shot of Wilson throwing the pass and Butler making The Pick.

Cue the Twilight Zone theme again.

Cue the voice over:

"What would life be like in The Butler Zone...watch...and you will learn...."

Cut to the Victory Celebration as the music fades...

I have no idea. I stopped listening to everything at the 4-minute mark when Collinsworth started gas-bagging about Inflategate as the Patriots drove for the winning TD.

The Butler did it in the Stadium with a brilliant jump....what if I just savor and thoroughly enjoy a great play made by the defense to seal the victory? What if the defense made a play in the 2 SB losses? The Pats may very well have been 6 for 6 this century. I really like that what if scenario....

What if the officials called TB's incomplete a fumble against Oakland? What if AV misses that 1 in a 100 snow kick? Maybe we have no dynasty?

Works both ways.

The thing is, we will never know. At the time it would have appeared to be better, but if that pass is incomplete there could have been a series of events that led to the Pats losing. Fortunately we will never know.
Edit: i dont think DH had a real shot at the int, i'm assuming a breakup.

I'm trying to separate out my open personal opinion on their respective legacy the rest of the media idiots as I think mine is the only one I care about :)

What does one play change? I'll tell you

By winning a 4th SB and being in a 6th, this establishes - by any measure TB as THE greatest QB in NFL history. By losing a 3rd, it's still up for a healthy debate with no definitive answer. People can still bring up Starr, Montana, etc..

By winning a 4th SB and being in 6 as a coach, this establishes BB as THE 2nd greatest winning coach (maybe even GM) in NFL history. By losing a 3rd, in my mind it's still a question between him, Walsh, Paul Brown, Halas, Shula, Noll and maybe Landry.

I'm not ready for the BB vs Vince Lombardi debate. 5 titles, 6 championship game appearances in 8 seasons is ridiculous. If Lombardi had his health he may have won a couple more- certainly would have out-coached Shula in the 72 game if he stayed with the 'Skins as he only would have been 60 years old. Maybe BB is better than VL but I'm not comfortable with that argument. To me, VL is immortal. Just like Red Auerbach will always be better than Phil Jackson or Pat Riley or Popovich. Just how Scotty Bowman and Joe McCarthy were better than anyone who ever coached in their respective sports.

If they weren't already there, this establishes the New England Patriots in the Top 3 Franchises in NFL History in the Super Bowl era. 4 titles, 8 appearances. They need the 5th to pass SF and Pitt.

When it comes to Winning the 4th and legacies...it was MONUMENTAL

I've asked myself that question about a thousand times since Sunday.

I wonder if these guys have been so coached to avoid what could be construed as illegal contact with a "defenseless receiver" (Kearse was on the ground and it looked to everyone in the stadium but Kearse and, thank God!, Butler that the play was over) that he thought he'd better get out of the way or he'd pick up a penalty at the worst possible time if he landed on him?

This was huge. There were so many things at stake with all the crap and what was hinging on a 4th ring. I actually had to check the sites a few times Monday and Tuesday to make sure this actually happened.

You can put this up there with the 2004 Sox as far as significance and the cast of genuinely likeable guys and characters that both teams had. There are some similarities.

yeah but just dropping to your knees and interfering with the process would have made it incomplete.

I think you're right......but I'll bet he does it differently next time......playin to the whistle....

response was probably impulsive and that's fine.....slight reprogramming would make it different.....

I would be saying Belichick should have called a time out and given Brady 45 seconds and another time out and just needing a FG

People would be posting about all the "JAGS" that play for our defense.

didn't happen so i won't spend 1 second thinking about it :D

We would be seeing Kearse Tyree-esque catch over and over again. That will be cruel.
