Garoppolo = One of the best draft picks EVER

Jimmy G impressed me 10x more in his 1st year than Mallett ever did in his 4 years here. He's worth way more than Mallett.

So if Mallet was worth a first all day maybe Jimmy is worth a first and a second?

Don't underestimate the value of a good scout team. I'm sure Belichick doesn't.

Or the cap savings from having a young QB on his first contract rather than an expensive veteran.

They should be able to get #19 (Buffalo's pick) from Cleveland for Jimmy G. All Cleveland currently has on their roster is Connor Shaw, though they do have a worthless bum in rehab. Winston, who they wouldn't take for obvious reasons, and Mariota will be long gone by Cleveland's own pick #12. As usual, Cleveland is desperate for a QB and the Pats should take full advantage.

Call me delusional but I don't think I'd trade Jimmy G for #12, of course BB's opinion may vary. He sees him in practice every day and is far far ahead of me as a talent scout.

I think most of us have been impressed by what we've seen, and if he trades Jimmy G he now needs to invest in a replacement. That will cost resources and is no guarantee they will get a guy ready to step in in case of a sudden drop off by Brady.

In addition to having the physical skills he seems to have the necessary leadership and makeup, from all reports, and seems well-liked by his teammates.

I think they could be persuaded to part with him but I bet it would take more than pick #12.

Not exactly apples to apples but look what RG3 fetched in trade; Jimmy G seems to have impressed in his first year so he is somewhat projectable.

I wish I had a link but it was so long ago (2 months or so), it would be too hard to find.

However I can paraphrase for you, there was a poster on a Browns board who claimed that he knew there were teams looking to trade for JG (the Browns weren't one) and that the Patriots were asking for a goldmine for him. Understanding that we had years of Mallett rumors but this guy seemed fairly sure of himself. That's all I've got.

Normally I'd dismiss this kind of rumour quickly, but considering GM Ray Farmer's love of texting, maybe it's legit ;)

I think BB would want two firsts for JG, or at least a first and a second. That's just my opinion though. I think JG is gonna look good as hell this training camp and teams are gonna be slobbering all over themselves by the end of the second preseason game.

A good back up is great to have incase something happens that would prevent Brady from playing for 2 or 3 games, but if a team offered us an impact player for him, or a good deal that can help us win, I'd happily wave goodbye.

The pick would have to be good enough to make up for the extra cash/cap cost of replacing him with somebody deserving of similar confidence.

Trading for a new QB in mid-August is problematic in terms of preparation for the immediately forthcoming season. Also, who would be a good replacement at that point, other than former backups such as Hoyer, Mallett or Cassell, all of whom would rather be competing for starting jobs?

Yeah, I know that the logistics of it preparation-wise are tough, but if they get a blow-you-away type offer I don't think they can say no. They might end up having to gamble on Brady's health for a year, sign a journeyman at that point, and keep a third guy like Gilbert on the PS.

Edit: I would much prefer such a trade to happen BEFORE the draft or at least before TC but I'm just speaking hypothetically.

i have a feeling IF JG was traded a lot of us would be really depressed in about 3-5 years. The guy looks like he could end up being very damn good. Would suck some serious ass to see someone like the browns having him and headed to the playoffs while we end up with some jerkoff like geno smith and a 5-11 record.

Christian Ponder is about to be a free agent. I love his skillset but his confidence has been shot by terrible offensive coaching in Minnesota. I believe BB had him in for a pre-draft visit. IMO, the Jets or Bills should just sign him and name him the starter, but if he's as good as I think, they're too dumb for that.

Jimmy G. went to through the public school district where I work. My staff's son's and daughters hang with his brother and sometimes Jimmy. It's pretty cool hearing all the stories. The morning after the Chicago game they were all pissed at the Chicago player who went after JG at the end of the game.

One question - we know JimmyGrape says TFB is "like a big brother to him".

You think between the early sucky part of the season and the winning part of the season, Tom ever said "Hey can you show me how you get the ball out so quick lil' bro"?

It was like someone flipped the switch on Brady from "wah I need more time than this OL gives me" to "take what they give you in 2-3 seconds if you want to live".

I was focusing more on value to the other team. Why make a blow-away offer for a QB in mid-August? If it happens to be a good team suffering a TC injury to their QB and having a lousy backup situation, I can see it. But if it's a team that went into the offseason with poor QBs, I'd think they'd fix the problem either before mid-August or not at all.

I was thinking this team would propose a trade before TC but it wasn't enough and BB said no dice, and JG ended up looking real good in preseason and their QB situation looked so bad that they bit the bullet and paid what BB was asking. That was my thought process.
