Edelman Bandwagon

With all due respect, @JJDChE, a good number of us were on the Edelman bus back in 2009. :)

Exactly! Jan 10 2010 I believe we saw shades of greatness. What a **** game that was overall though.
6 44 7.3 2 24 JE stats that day. Nothing spectacular but he was the only one doing anything.

Got a good laugh out of this one

Let's see, you guys have been claiming that the reason Edelman hasn't produced is that he doesn't get the time, now he's seen it, what has he done?

6 receptions for 57 yards. He's awesome.

The guy has done nothing as a WR yet people insist he can replace the most productive WR in football the past 5 years, it's ridiculous, and there is absolutely nothing in fact that supports it, just fantasy.

Almost 200 receptions the last two years, over 2,000 yds. One of the most dangerous punt returners in the game. 9rec for 109yds and a TD against one of the best pass defenses of all time.

Where's the Bandwagon for this guy?

Oh, that's right, I started it.

You may have started that particular bandwagon, but I was on my own for this guy since he returned a punt for a preseason. TD in his rookie year.:)

Props to Jules. Every one here likes the guy, hardworker and tough as nails.

Edelman stuck out to me in Week 2 of his rookie year in 2009 - at the Jets. I remember him having a solid game (especially in terms of creating yards after the catch) that really caught everyone's attention.

He was the lone bright spot for the Pats in their playoff loss to the Ravens, not only getting two TDs but huge first down conversions as well.

Oddly enough tough, like most Pats rookie WRs he regressed in year two from a WR perspective and unfortunately was entrenched as a special teams guy.

2012 was when people really started to take note again though. After all, heading into training camp it was looking like we had an embarrassment of riches at WR

I mean, in camp we had Welker, Lloyd, Gafney, Branch, Stallworth, A.Gonazalez. When the dust settled it was Edelman still standing when the likes of Branch, Stallworth, and Gaffney all didn't make the cut.

It is odd how many of the recent rookie wide receivers have regressed in year two (A.Dobson, K.Thompkins, J.Boyce, J.Edelman, C.Jackson, B.Johnson)

Early on it was clear to see he was exceptional at making tacklers miss.

My binkie in July 2009. I remember showing the girl I was dating an interview of him and telling her about how he's a former qb and going to have to make it as a wr. She said, "he's cute."

I don't really follow, if you ask the fans I would be willing to bet it would rank out as 1. Brady 2. Gronkowski 3. Edelman in terms of fan admiration. Maybe big Vince or Revis would jump him but I don't think so because they aren't as outgoing.

I wonder how many teams would like a " do over" for last year's FA period.

Michael Irvin called Edelman the pulse of the Pats' offense. Hard to disagree

I read the forum posts here religiously but don't post much. I am proud to admit that I was at the opening day of training camp 2009 and noticed that number 11 was a standout. That said, I was not alone, everyone sitting around me were really impressed by his moves and energy. He went at everything at full speed and it was very entertaining to watch. I've been a fan since and it's been great to watch him become my current favorite Patriot.

True, many did, but did they start the bandwagon? :D

nope, they were always fans, they didn't need to hop on any wagons;)

Same here. How can you doubt someone who learned a completely different position at the NFL level as quickly as he did? There are veterans who have come to this team and failed, as we all well know. C'mon. It was not fair to compare him to Welker so early in his career while he was trying to learn a position that Welker pretty much perfected to that point. The expectations were unfair, and so too were the criticisms early on . . . all except the fact that he was known for getting dinged and missing time. That has so obviously not been the case these past two seasons, where he's been more healthy than not overall.

You could see the work ethic then and now you see it paying off. He's going to get a little better, I believe. I don't think he's reached his ceiling. The Patriots kept him at a bargain and, if he makes it to another big contract year, he will make sure he gets PAID. If he can stay relatively healthy, he will surpass Welker's productivity as an all-around threat and have way more yards from scrimmage production. I'm trying to refrain from engaging in hyperbole, but I wonder if Julian isn't already the better receiver? He moves the chains from more areas of the field, not just the slot primarily. He can line up all over the place and, though we saw some of that in Welker's final season or two, he was never quite the threat that Julian seems to be. I think it can be debated, if nothing else.

Good thing we cut that stiff, #80 and promoted Boyce and his "measurables"...

Oddly enough tough, like most Pats rookie WRs he regressed in year two from a WR perspective and unfortunately was entrenched as a special teams guy.

He didn't regress. The Pats still had Welker (albeit at 80%), and they drafted the Prisoner and GRONK, and then in season they got Woodhead and Branch after they traded away Moss. Edelman went from being Brady's second-best option after Moss to being sixth behind Welker/Branch/Prisoner/GRONK/Woodhead.

Madden today made him 91 overall, tied for the 9th best WR in the game.

I feel like fans of other NFL teams rate him higher than pats fans do. He's a WR1 and not just a slot guy. He's a better version of Branch and a poor man's Antonio Brown.

Edelman now and Welker in his prime would have been insane together.

His production regressed. He went from 37 catches and 359 yds to 7 catches for 86 yards. Yes, opportunity was certainly a factor, but he was for all intents and purposes a special teamer at that point, so I would say his WR production regressed. I'm not saying it's because he's a bad player or his skills declined, but his production did not build upon the expectations that were set by a strong 2009 (strong from a 7th rounder standards).

The same could be said about this year's rookies....Dobson, Thompkins, and Boyce didn't get opportunities, but I would say they regressed b/c Belichick didn't even see them as being worthy enough of staying on the field.
