Without him playing the role of Russell Wilson in practice and burning the Pats secondary play after play, Butler would never have been ready for the real life version and to make the best int. in Pats history.

Bill knew this of course during the draft. He realized Seattle would return and that the Pats would beat Denver or anyone else in the AFC at full strength. Hence he nabbed Jimmy G.

Kudos Bill!!! Best coach and GM EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

looks like a reach.... but hey we just won the Superbowl, so I will go with it .. :p

yeah with Revis, Browner and the good team we already had in place, I really wanted BB to draft in the 1st and 2nd round of a loaded draft players that could contribute immediately.

Since we won the SB without these players contributing much on games I'll take these 2 picks as bonus.

Well we have Easley and Garoppolo for free, I'm not even mad.

Jimmy=less salty steve young.

JG's value as a pick also increases when you look at this year's horrendous QB group. After the top two, he would be the clear #3 QB this year from what I can tell. We'd have a problem if we were trying to draft a developmental QB who we had confidence in this year.

Well, I would go as far as "Best Ever" draft pick. Tom Brady will always go down as the best draft pick ever by any team due to him being selected in the sixth round.

Remember David Fales?

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I am convinced that teams are talking to the Pats about Garoppolo (given the paucity of good QBs available this year), and that the Pats believe they're likely to get an offer they can't just reject out of hand.

BTW, I am not saying I am convinced that Garoppolo will be traded this offseason, merely that there's a non-zero chance of it.

Convinced because JG had an impressive preseason and QBs are always in need? Or convinced because you have some inside info? Inquiring minds want to know!

Wouldn't surprise me. After Mariota and Winston there's nothing but slop to draft from. Sure, a couple will end up being good but if a team needs a young QB unless they want to look at Mallet or Sanchez in FA, Foles, Osweiller or JG via trade, they're largely out of luck.

But with the extra picks we get from the Colts and Ravens for Tampergategate, and the Rats and possibly Bills for possibly tampering with Revis we shouldn't even listen.

Now if only Goodell gets removed or resigns and Paul Tagliabue steps in temporarily to revisit some of Goodell's over the top penalties.........

:D

No, I'm not Erika Leigh. :p

Seriously, though: it's based on the fact that after running with just two QBs on the payroll for the last three years (and five of the last six), the Pats all of a sudden are hot on signing a QB3 to the 53-man roster? Why do that if there's better than 50-50 odds you're going to cut him in September anyways?

I wish I had a link but it was so long ago (2 months or so), it would be too hard to find.

However I can paraphrase for you, there was a poster on a Browns board who claimed that he knew there were teams looking to trade for JG (the Browns weren't one) and that the Patriots were asking for a goldmine for him. Understanding that we had years of Mallett rumors but this guy seemed fairly sure of himself. That's all I've got.

That was interesting when they tried to sign David Fales then signed Gilbert when Fales was made not available.

The Pats won the Superbowl and only got a significant contribution for their first 4th round pick (Stork), and some contribution from their third 4th round pick (Fleming).

They got almost nothing from their first round pick (Easley), nothing (on game day) from their second round pick (Aladdin), (no third r0ound pick) , nothing from White (second 4th round pick) and the other picks didn't make the team!

Hopefully Easley (who showed some promise) is fully healed. Aladdin I don't think is going anywhere, plus if you are looking for a Pats style QB, both Hoyer and Mallet are FA, and both are way more accomplished than Aladdin. I liked what I saw in both Stork and Fleming.

The Pats have 5 of the top 100 picks in the upcoming draft (32, 64, 96, @98 (comp for Talib) and @ 100 (TB 4th). So hopefully they move up and come out with a Chandler Jones/Hightower type draft class!

Would you trade him straight up for Clowney?
