"I think there's been a lot of criticism that's I don't think anywhere close to being deserved or founded," Belichick said. "That football team is very good and they're very well coached. Pete does a great job. Malcolm (Butler) and Brandon (Browner) on that particular play just made a great play.

"I think the criticism they've gotten for the game is totally out of line -- and by a lot of people who I don't think are anywhere near qualified to be commenting on it."

The bold puts emphasis on the ferocity of his defense. Now whether or not you agree with Seattle's call or not, and whether or not you choose to ignore that the Patriots have a 400 pound run blocking wall named Wilfork in the center of its defense or not, what matters here is the class of Belichick, who the spiteful degenerates of our country like to refer to as "Belicheat," is on full display.

Where were the NFL coaches around the league when the media was pushing a ratings-driven fake-scandal to tarnish the premier football organization in the NFL?

"OH! I DEFINITELY AGREE IT'S A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE! I THINK THAT GOES WITHOUT SAYING!"

That's where they were, showering us with their ugly-Americanism as blowhard, jealous, loud mouth jackasses, having a field day with a smear campaign to sooth their inferiority complexes and envy, or attacking a man's integrity in a sorry attempt to boost the ratings on their post-football TV gig.

In other words, completely classless, trying to tarnish a great legacy with sound bytes for a ******** story, since they can't tarnish it on the actual football field.

For a guy people like to call "cheater," Belichick is one of the few NFL head coaches that has honor.

Bill Belichick is a great American.

The best part about what BB had to say is he wasn't even asked about it, he brought it up.

BB did not have to defend Carroll, but he did so with class.

Another point: Maybe BB just played enough mind games to influence Carroll to make that pass call.

The American media is an absolute atrocity of the highest order. I have never seen a single country's media outlet that LOVES to tear down it's greats and get's a sexual thrill from doing it. Whether it's in politics, sports, entertainment or any other field.

In the UK it's the exact opposite. They celebrate homegrown mediocrity and crown them the best because of English/British arrogance. For example Andy Murray is 2/8 in grand slam finals and not to mention and absolute prick yet he's the best thing since the light bulb was invented to the media in the UK. They celebrate England getting out of the group stages of the world cup like they won the damn thing when the US team who is only just scratching the surface of football/soccer has better results and performances than them!

Both extremes are as bad as each other but what the US media (particularly the sports networks) does to it's most talented heroes (most of the time without any ounce of basis) should be illegal.

The British celebrate sporting mediocrity because almost all of you are **** at sport. :p

Dead on.

I agree with you, we are **** at most sports. Don't get me wrong there are some world class talents we have, Rooney being one of them (even though being a United season ticket holder makes me biased :D) and the funny thing is they love to hate the few great ones we do have like him!

Truthfully, it's one of the endearing aspects of British sport. The Barmy Army traveling to Australia for any Australia vs. England contest makes it worthwhile alone.

I dislike cricket but any sane fan of the game can tell you England are crap and have been for decades except for that crazy ashes in '05 but they love living in the past (like Liverpool fans) and put all the cricketers with terrible knowledge of other sports on football talk shows of all things!

Another great example is what the US media did to LeBron pre winning those titles. Disgusting treatment trying to make his life as uncomfortable as possible and then he wins and it's STILL not good enough. So what if he moved teams? Peyton did and he gets called a genius for it!

Anyway i have digressed to ranting about other things on a BB thread. To the point, Bill is one of the greatest sporting Americans at this present time along with the likes of Pat Riley, Popovich and a few others.

OP, you exaggerate wilfork's weight. He only weighs 399 lbs.

Who cares? He's a cheater and classless.

Just one suggestion on the conclusion of the fine OP:

Bill Belichick is a great American and a fantastic leader.

Great post.

I'd add that BB is big into the coaching fraternity. This is a tough business and tough to become a HC. By all accounts Pete has worked hard to get where he is and like BB lived off peanuts while raising a family working 18hr days. He had his respect. Clearly Carroll also abides by that code as well.

Except for Peyton Manning. He is untouchable.

Yes, it showed class for Belichick to defend Carroll. But then, Belichick has been there, with folks labeling his play call the worst ever.

As Carroll explained it wasn't a matter of mind games. He thought that he didn't have time for 3 runs. He did have time for a pass play, a run, a time-out and then the last play if that were needed. Belichick was in a goal-line defense with a lot of beef across the line (presumably Wilfork, Branch and Siliga). There were no safeties. There were three corners covering each receiver in man coverage. A lot of good things had to happen for the pass play to fail. If nothing was open, Wilson should have thrown the ball away, and Seattle would have the two run options for Lynch, or even a run and run-option for the last play.

Belichick understood Carroll's choice and chose to speak up defending him. Folks certainly could disagree, especially with the choice of pass routes. IMHO, there were safer routes for this play.

Robert Kraft wasn't so gracious (in a post game interview). He simply smiled and said that he was glad that Carroll made the call that he did.
