Game Day question- Two Minute Warning First Half- 9 seconds lost?

Maybe because I was in the stands and didn't get an explanation but does anyone know what happened? Towards the end of the first half, Amendola caught a pass and ran out of bounds with 2:09 remaining. The next thing you know Vinovich is announcing that" this is the two minute warning" Why didn't the clock stop on the out of bounds? The refs huddled during the TV timeout and I assumed that they would put the time back on the clock but they just went on like nothing happened. They hadn't run another play so it could have been corrected.

It wasn't like his forward progress was stopped and no ref made the signal to keep clock running. Anybody know what happened??? It's minor in the overall scheme (thought I wish they had taken another 30 seconds off considering what Seattle did when they got the ball back) but I'm curious.

clock only stops in the final 2 minutes of the 1st half and the final 5 minutes of the 2nd half

I saw that watching it on TV. Never knew what happened.

I thought there were some terrible non calls on both sides. As well as the missed call on the punter getting hit in the plant leg.

I agree. The calls were oddly called. That face mask on Arrington that gave Seattle the ball near the 10 yard line at the end of the 1st half was out of place for that game. Brady took numerous hits to the head that were never called. As good as people want to say Matthews was, he mostly got open by pushing off (and down!) Arrington.

The first penalty on Allen was completely missed as you mentioned. I don't think there was a single holding call either.

With all that said, I think the players preferred this. There is a spot with BB on the sidelines were he says that they are not calling holding so grab you guy and hold on.

Just one hold called, once again against the Patriots.

I know there used to be a rule (might still be there?) that if the player runs backwards (as in back towards the line of scrimmage, not backpedaling) and out of bounds the clock still runs, or something like that. Regardless, I don't think that's what happened on this play, I was confused about it too.

When a receiver is tackled or runs out of bounds, the clock doesn't automatically stop. Only in the last 2 minutes of the first half and the last 5 minutes of regulation.

The Facemask call was out of place? It was as blatant a facemask as you could ask for and a simple call.

I thought the refs did pretty well. They missed the call on the roughing the kicker and, whilst I have seen some players say the refs were right not to call it, I probably would have flagged the hit on Edelman in the fourth quarter. I initially thought it was an immense hit but on the replays it's pretty damn close to a hit to the head of a defenseless receiver. But if they were willing to let that go for both sides, I could get over it.

They left off some holds that might have been called in the regular season and we were both doing that...which I am happy with. That is how games should be called in the playoffs. The refs didn't make it much about them at all. Which I loved.

Every player pushes off too...it's just about how discreet they can be.

Wait...what?!?

I've been watching football a long time...are you sure?

Yes it has been that way quite a while.

Yes, been that way for about 15-20 years. Check the 8th note.

With the exception of the last two minutes of the first half and the last five minutes of the second half, the game clock will be restarted following a kickoff return, a player going out of bounds on a play from scrimmage, or after declined penalties when appropriate on the referee’s signal.

I've heard a bunch of people say this. Arrington clearly grasped the facemask and yanked on it. They even showed it on TV replay. It was as clear-cut as anything.

First half 2:00 minute warning- what happened to 9 seconds

Minor point in the scheme of things. With 2:16 left in the first half, Brady hit Amendola and he went out of bounds with 2:09 left. That should have stopped the clock but the next thing you know Vinovich announced the 2 minute warning and they went to a TV timeout. I don't know what was said on TV but we saw the refs huddle and I assumed they would put the 9 seconds back on the clock ( do they then have another 2 minute warning?) but they didn't and play contained. in retrospect I wished they took more off the clock. does anybody know what happened?

The clock continues to run after it is reset for the offense after an out of bounds play except for under 2 minutes in the first half and under 5 minutes in the game. At 2:09, the ball is tossed back to the ref, he sets it on the field and the clock starts back up.

Thanks. I thought it was 5 minute mark of each half. Appreciate the info.
