yeah. and boston fans can't possibly hate on simmons. he is one of us.
Good article - unusual for him these days in that it was definitely well thought out.
Simmons was a great read back in his digital city Boston days - fresh and different. He is mostly old and stale at this point, clearly focused on his other projects and not committed to writing. Some of his other stuff is excellent - 30 for 30 for example.
The main issue I have with his writing isn't that he clearly no longer works at it, it is he thinks of himself and is viewed nationally as the voice of the Boston sports fan. His takes usually could be summarized that he heard from a buddy or his dad back home that on Felger and Mazz today that all Pats fans think blank.
If you have ever read a dumber non deflate column than his Tom Brady is a follower not a leader like Peyton Manning because his older sisters no doubt pushed him around growing up - I don't want to read it.
In the last month he was on twitter saying Brady's contract changes could only mean the team and QB have decided they want to move on from each other as easily as possible - quite possibly this month. He then wrote the same in his column. He went even further on that hot take when BB and Brady held same day press conferences on the dumb deflated ball controversy. It was proof of a rift and more proof to him that they were mutually parting. Anyone with a brain knew that BB was not going to blind side his QB Super Bowl week and that it was part of the team's PR plan to put the issue behind them but hotsportztakes don't require brains.
To me, Simmons on the Pats is like listening to the worst, least informed sports radio hosts and callers but worse because he has a national forum.
Maybe I'm wrong and he is the one who is plugged into what is really going on in Foxboro. I mean, the Pats can cut Brady now that the season is over, right?

boston fans can't possibly hate on simmons. he is known for being a major boston homer.
and i even appreciate a senile like bob ryan. guys like that makes boston. boston has alot of cranky old glass half empty fools. that's what makes boston media unique.

So does Tedy Bruschi. Simmons is just OK. A little too manic at times, but a talented writer. Really don't think about him much. Not convinced. How long has he been in LA now? Plus he works for the most evil sports media company there is.
Yup, that's the one he linked to in this article (when mentioning the Edelman story). I'm sorry, but if I had ever written anything so mind-numbingly stupid the last thing I would do is link to it in a later column (especially one that so clearly demonstrates why your first article was so bad). I would want to forget I ever wrote it, remove it from the website, say a thousand rosaries in repentance. Anything other than provide a link so we can all remember why we thought this guy was kind of a douche in the first place.
That was the column he linked to? I had remembered the Edelman story so didn't bother to click on the link he provided. I honestly can't believe he would want anyone to go back and re-read that article but it is all about page clicks.
Bill Simmons is a basketball guy that unfortunately gets stuck trying to cover the Patriots because he WAS from Boston. Yes, past tense. As Adam Carolla has pointed out to him, Simmons has lived longer in L.A. than Boston.

Simmons is good friends with Mike Lombardi from when he used to be a frequent guest on the BS report so I think he's pretty plugged in.
What he said on the Brady contract is he found it very confusing. He has since gone on to say that after talking to his contacts, part of the driving force behing the recent deal is that Brady wants to be able to pick what team he goes to if Belichick decides to move on. He doesn't want to go to situations like Seymour and Mankins where they went to rot in football hell.
Eh, that really doesn't matter much. I've lived in SoCal for longer than I lived in Boston; you don't suddenly stop being a Boston fan because you don't live there anymore.
