is it starting to fall apart for Petey Caroll?

This isnt going to do Carrol in, but if they struggle next year (which seems unlikely) then you could start to see some more problems.

They're really entering the phase now where they have to start paying for the production that they've been riding. Wilson will get paid, Lynch will get paid. They have most of the secondary locked up but the second CB is still a question mark for them with Maxwell hitting FA. If they pay Wilson and Lynch, they have very little money to work with. Maxwell could very well leave...

On the other hand, they are the ones who drafted a lot of these guys, so clearly they are doing great with talent evaluation. Another couple good drafts could keep them where they are. So it's hard to discount them just due to having to pay guys, but the level of production they were getting vs. what those guys were making (especially at QB) was really ridiculous and won't happen again for them.

Keeping the ship right is the big issue. Sherman, Lynch and Wilson seemed mature after the game, which is good from a leadership standpoint, but a lot of the other guys were ripping the team. Guys were fighting, getting ejected. Coaches ripping players. It's not a good look. You lose your DC now as well, which may not be a huge deal since Carroll is more about that side anyway, but it will still be an adjustment. It could be a rocky year for Seattle, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were all good and back at it in two years.

I dont know if they will pay Lynch and if they do I think it will be a mistake, Lynch will be 29 next season and every RB starts to break down at this point. Lynch has a lot of mileage on his legs and he is going to want guaranteed money

He was a yard away from his second straight super bowl win....easily second best coach after BB.

He was a yard away from his second Super Bowl, but didn't get that yard. That is huge. Remember the (Tennessee) Titans! They finished a yard short in the Super Bowl and have gone 2-6 in playoffs since. It's been 7 years since they saw the playoffs.

Pete Carroll had his run with a QB on a rookie contract costing the Seahawks less than $700k this year. Let's see how they do when Wilson takes 15% of their cap money and puts the squeeze on all of the other positions and their depth.

If this chart is correct, the Seahawks have 25 free agents to think about. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/seattle-seahawks/

The Seahawks have multiple mountains to climb to get back.

(The Pats ought to make a run at LB O'Brien Schofield - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O'Brien_Schofield )

Remember the NFL is a copycat league. The Patriots showed how to beat that defense.

To many people have said they are what they are and don't make adjustments.

The offense wasn't that great either take away those 4 long pass plays and they did virtually nothing in the passing game.

I don't see them getting to the superbowl next year just my opinion.

I think that they will pay him. I think he probably has one, maybe two elite seasons left, but after that he will likely lose his effectiveness very quickly.

The issue is that Lynch will probably refuse to play for what his current contract is worth. He wants more money. Seattle can't dump him, the fans would riot, especially since it's now public belief that HE would have delivered them another ring if only the coaches had the intelligence to hand the ball off (a sentiment I think is stupid.)

So, in the end, they will almost be forced to pay up, IMO.

But didn't they say they offered him a large contract right before SB Sunday? Like 10 million for next year? Or was that an idle report? I wondered about it because he is hitting that age where RBs usually hit a wall.

I think this is less of an indictment on Carroll then it is on the selfishness of the Seahawk players. They have a serious lockerroom problem. You would never see the Pats player calling out BB like that, BB doesn't put up with those type of players.

Pats under Carroll were well down this path too.
That's a stretch. One team goes 8-8 and the other comes up a play short of back to back SBs

With that said I didn't like how the OC threw Lockett under the bus.

I think next year they'll be one of the best teams in the NFC, but won't happen to be the actual champions.

I agree. There schedule looks pretty easy but I could see them loosing in the first round of the playoffs.

they can just spend all next season bad mouthing him as "unnamed sources" and maybe draft a Running back

Mm, they could, but they tried that tactic this year, only to end up relying on him down the stretch run and making the fans fall ever deeper in love with him.

If they don't pay up, he will hold out next year, which will make the fans very angry since as I said, they will all cry "he could've won us another ring if you gave him the damn ball, now you don't want to pay him what he's worth!?" It's a tough spot for them. Not too many organizations have the fortitude to cut ties with a beloved figure. The Patriots do. The Seahawks most certainly do not.

Carroll is part of an elite group. He won a Superbowl last year and was in one this year. If measured over 2 years, that makes his team the best (though we're the best this year and over a 14 year span). He's nowhere near becoming undone. He'll need a couple of bad years for that to happen.

The LOB will be good next year very good but i dont think they will go to super bowl i look green bay or a surprise team to make look out for the falcons

Every team will just field a Revis, Browner, Wilfork, Ninkovich, McCourty, Brady, Gronk, Edelman, Amendola and Vereen, and the Seahawks' defensive backfield will still be playing with a shredded elbow, separated shoulder, torn MCL, and missing starter due to a compound fracture, and they'll be in big trouble?

If Carolina's Wide Receiver situation resolves itself, they're a dark horse in the NFC.

The reason people are hating on Carroll is because in some sense, he's the anti-Belichick. He encourages his players to be open and speak their mind publicly. The reality is, they were 1 play and 30 seconds away from going b2b. They'll be fine.

There is a lot to be determined. Injuries, retirements, coaching defections, and cap casualties will subtract from the roster. Draft picks and free agents will add to the roster. (Of course these issues apply to all teams.) So far, Seattle must be well pleased with his performance. I suppose drafting late again will be a challenge.

BTW some people mentioned paying Marshawn Lynch. He is scheduled to make $8 million. He held out of camp because he looked at the play book last spring and thought that he was being phased out. The coaching staff realized that was a mistake.

I think the media is moving on now to Seattle. It was only two weeks ago that they were claiming BB was throwing Brady under the bus, blowing up every little comment into something sinister.

Seattle will probably have to pay Wilson this year, and they have a few other big decisions to make so they may not have as good of a team. But as their young talent continues to mature, they could definitely make it back.

I don't think this is an indictment at all of the Seahawks and if they gained that one yard, the media would then be saying the same **** about BB.

I still wonder why Russell Wilson seems to be getting a free pass in all this... He's the one who threw the freaking ball! Call or no, he still has to throw it in the right place.

It wasn't Wilson's fault. Bevell was right; Lockette almost ambled to the ball.

Not going to pile on Pete ... he's a good coach.

Either Seattle comes back strong next year...or you won't hear from them for a while
