Malcolm Butler:One hit wonder (Sterling Moore 2.0) or legit?

What riches the Pats have here.

In the 2012 Superbowl, both Edelman and Slater were taking snaps as DBs.

so that was Butler who shut down TY Hilton in the AFCC game? People need to stop ****ting on Arrington, Butler may permanently supplant Dennard, but I hope they keep all of them.

Not ****ting on Arrington but McCourty played a role in Hilton getting shut down in that one.

Butler is better than Logan Ryan. On Inside the NFL they talked about how awful Ryan's technique was on the TD before the half. Didn't jam and never looked at the QB. All he really had to do was hold him and take the penalty.

He did those things as a rookie. Who the **** is teaching these young DBs of ours? The same tards Browner had to beg to take over for Arrington?

undoubtedly, but Arrington has played well all year but if the guy ****s up at any point he gets a rain of hate. Putting Arrington on Mathews was not a great move in retrospect but obviously the Pats did not think that the guy who had never caught an NFL pass would do anything.

are you really *****ing about the coaching staff the week of the super bowl win? Seems some fans are only happy if every corner is a shut down corner; every person on this team struggled at some point this season.

In some ways I feel bad for Butler. It's never going to be as good as that play. so any future comparisons towards that particular play will always be less.

Now, from the other plays I saw him involved with (that I recall), the kid did a good/better than average job. for him to be a solid contributor to this team, it will be all about consistency and knowing how the defense operates.

Regardless, he'll be immortal, though living up to that rep could crush him. Lucky for him, he's surrounded by mentally tough players who can coach him into being a solid starter and being realistic.

Edelman did not actually take snaps at DB in the Super Bowl.

No i just find it interesting that Arrington gets eaten alive by Chris Matthews and Brandon Browner has to go and ask Josh Boyer if maybe he could cover Matthews because 6'4 vs 6'4 is a little bit more competitive on those hail marys Wilson was throwing

Chris Mathews had also never caught a pass before so not playing your #2 corner on him seems to make sense, still though I do not see why they had Arrington playing outside against a big receiver.

get off arrington's sh*t.....he was good this year

butler claims wilson gave the play away pre snap

In my layman's opinion, he has been pretty consistent with his technique and how he attacks the ball. He's shown the flashes (staying with his man, turning his head in man coverage) that reminded me of what landed Ryan and Dennard in their current roster spots. I'm going off of a season of memories, but Butler seems better equipped to attack the ball at the end and has better results than our #3-5 cbs. Without looking at measurements, he seems to have an inch or 2 on his teammates, whether in height or vert.

Just depends where the holes on the roster open up. If a safety spot opens up, I'm all for trying out another scarlet Knight back there. If a CB spot opens up, Arrington or Dennard might be gone. My prediction is that Butler starts next season as the SOLID #4/5 regardless.

I'm guessing Revis, Browner, Ryan, Dennard, Butler unless Arrington's contact makes it impossible to dump him.

Malcom Butler has better balls skills than Logan cushion Ryan and Klye jekl/hyde Harrington. I like Butler's upside across from Revis. That said with 32nd Pick in 2015 NFL Draft I would take a CB.

If Butler can handle the fame and come back humble and work hard, he does have an upside and could be a solid DB for some years. I really hope that he does, and does not fade into history as David Tyree did.

Unlike Moore, Butler earned his playing time in an uncommonly deep CB corps. He shows great ball skills, and not only is he a rookie from DII but he only had 2 seasons at that level -- he was a juco transfer. Plus he was earning praise from the vets, including Revis, throughout the year. Plenty of reason to think he's only going to get better.

I think Butler is gonna be pretty good personally. His technique is good and his athleticism is above average IMO. Another year developing will make him even better. The fans love him obviously, Bill seems to like him a lot too, he's known to be a really hard worker and study a lot of film. He will stick and hopefully develop well. I think we could even see a scenario in which he is regularly rotated in as the #2 CB based on matchups...

FYI I've been a Butler believer all year, as evidenced by my fantasy team "Revis and Butlerhead"... Which coincidentally also won it all this season (to the tune of $200 :D)
