Does Tom Brady owe M. Butler MVP truck?

I suspect that Brady will figure a way in addition to the truck to take care of him, probably in a way we will never know; but, it might include whispering in Kraft's ear that a nice bump to the contract of the #5 Corner on the depth chart would be nice.

Except that Kraft has nothing to do with contract signings by the team. He stays out of that part of the business unless he's dragged into it by the player..

If I were Brady I would give the amount that the truck costs to Butler so he can get his own ride and raffle off the truck to charity...everyone made plays and deserve accolades but Malcom sealed the deal for all of us and them...

The truck got z71 badge on it, got to be at least $29k

Brady gave it to him!

Tom Brady won his fourth Lombardi Trophy and third Super Bowl MVP award Sunday night.

But he wouldn’t have accomplished that without a clutch interception by undrafted rookie Malcolm Butler, who picked off Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson at the New England one-yard line with just seconds remaining in Super Bow XLIX to seal the victory for the Patriots.

“I think there are a lot of people who are very deserving of this award,” Brady said Monday morning in Arizona as he collected his latest MVP trophy.

As MVP, Brady also received a shiny new Chevy truck. While he didn’t hand his MVP trophy to Butler, the quarterback is doing the next best thing: He’s giving him the truck.

Butler was not one of the 256 players drafted into the NFL last May, and earned his spot on the Patriots with an impressive rookie camp and preseason. While fans didn’t see much of Butler during the regular season, he was no stranger to Brady, constantly plucking the quarterback’s passes from the sky.

So when Butler came down with the game-saving interception with 20 seconds remaining on Sunday night, Brady wasn’t surprised.

“He’s been doing it to me in practice all season so it was nice to see him pick someone else off,” Brady joked.

I doubt that Brady sees it that way. To paraphrase a poster above, players don't "run through a wall" for a guy who thinks like that.

well.....that seems to be the case......good for both of them

UDFA contracts can't be renegotiated after the rookie year.

I doubt either particularly want or need it. The check from that game alone could buy them several. It's just an award to get a sponsor name on TV. Regardless of whether Butler makes that play or not it probably goes to charity or to someone far more strapped for cash than either player.

The check from that game, for the record, is $97,000. The Seahawks got $49,000 each.

I heard on the radio and read on Myface that Brady is giving it to Butler. Urban legend?
He did, indeed, give the truck to Butler.

Butler only played 18 defensive snaps, making it hard to justify giving him the MVP trophy, leaving Brady as the sensible pick.

Shortly after the game ended, though, there were some quiet grumblings over Brady being awarded the MVP, given that Butler was the player who changed the team's fortunes at the end. Some folks, at least, wanted Brady to give away the truck that he was awarded as part of his MVP award.

And he did. Or, at least, he's trying.

While multiple reports are circling around Twitter that Brady already gave away the truck, he explained on WEEI's "Dennis & Callahan Morning Show" Tuesday morning that, while he wants to pass the prize on to his teammate, it's a little more complicated than just handing him the keys.

Getting a free truck sounds awesome, but comes with a bunch of tax implications and red tape, so immediately flipping the thing to Butler is likely going to be a little tricky. The most likely scenario is that Chevy picks up on Brady's gesture and helps make the gesture. It would give the company great PR, even if it required tearing up some contracts.

Thanks for wising me up on the contract rules. I appreciate it.

We're all just speculating about anything beyond the facts on the table then (apparently Brady did give him the truck), but I'll just leave it that somehow I think that something more will be coming Butler's way, one way or the other...

I don't know if I should feel excited or dissapointed that this steamy drama has come to a close so quickly...

@SportsTaxMan: Malcolm Butler will not be resp for income or gift tax on vehicle. He might be responsible for sales tax when he registers the vehicle.

This just in: Richard Sherman walks out of his house to find a red truck in his drive way. He read the letter on the windshield which said "From the GOAT TB- Hope you like the custom license plate!" He walked over to see the custom plate.....

Seriously, does he really need it?

I think he earned it, but I also think it's an awesome move to give it to Butler.

Check.

I just loaded the article and it says he and his attorney are still working out how to get it done.

And he did. Or, at least, he's trying.

BREAKING: Brady on @WEEI @DandCShow says that he (assumedly with agent and attorney) are working to give the Chevy to MALCOLM - well done!

Glad he gave Butler the truck. If Butler didn't make the INT, some of us will be talking about the picks Brady threw. I still think Butler was the MVP. His play was the most valuable in the game. Without him, I don't know if we win. He took that trophy from the Seahawks and said, "here you go team"....Yes anything can happen but the odds were not in our favor.
