We brought my three-year old to a friend's house for the Super Bowl (shared a babysitter- they have a huge house, so it made more sense.) Ironically, they are Seahawks fans, so we were to drop off my daughter and go home and watch the game, while they watched at their house.

A little back story: at the beginning of the playoffs, I had seen this man (the husband, big Seahawks fan, also an arrogant doctor) at a social event, and he wanted to talk football. I could not believe how arrogant he sounded about the Seahawks, telling me he wants the Patriots to win the AFC, because when the Seahawks beat Manning and Brady in consecutive years, they will be the greatest football team of all-time. I had trouble not chuckling and rolling my eyes but kind of played along. I did tell him he should be careful what he wishes for and that I was hoping the NFC's weakest team, Carolina, would win a couple of fluke games, should the Patriots make it to the SB. We had thought maybe he had come to his senses after the Seahawks struggled against the Packers.

So, back to yesterday. It was painfully awkward dropping off my daughter at their house, and my wife knew the story and was hoping he wasn't going to talk a bunch of trash, which isn't my style. Immediately when we got there, he started thumping his chest. He asked my wife who she thought would win, and she said "I don't know, I just hope it's a good game." He told her that the Seahawks might win a close game, but more likely this would be an epic blowout, declaring his prediction of Seahawks 34-12. He explained that the Seahawks are "too physical"... I asked him what he meant by "physical"- did he mean the defensive line, secondary, etc? Just "physical". Really "physical." He explained how the Seahawks would wear down the Patriots and that the Patriots had no chance. He asked me who I thought would win, and I told him I think it will be decided by less than a possession, and if the game was in the teens, the Seahawks, and if the twenties, the Patriots. He laughed about it and then started bragging that he wagered $2,000 on the game.

I tried be respectful and admittedly, almost couldn't, but I hung in there. When I was leaving, he looked at me and said, "Oh by the way, do you think Brady can throw a fully inflated ball?" My wife couldn't believe what a jerk he was.

So, to answer his question, yes, I do believe that Brady can throw a fully inflated ball just fine. I wonder what he thinks about that now.

My wife couldn't help but smirk when she picked up our daughter after the game.

Life's little victories.

If he is your doctor, i would suggest you take the high road, If he is not your physician i suggest you send him a UHD copy of the last quarter as a Christmas present

You're a better man than I. I almost want you to give me this guys number so I can call him up and "talk football".

I assume it is the wives in your families who are friends more than the husbands? :)

Had a similar experience 2 years ago with a fellow from my local watering hole. We see each other all the time, though we only know our first names. But we talk a lot, share stories, ***** about this and that, etc. He seemed like a pretty nice fellow for the summer until College football started. Seems he's a huge LSU fan. Always trash talking other teams, coaches, players, etc. Lots of bark but no common sense.

So anyway, I get my new ball cap ( I buy one each year) and wear it into the bar. He's sitting there, drinking a beer, and wearing his LSU cap. He looks uo and his jaw drops when he sees my brand new crimson Alabama hat. :)

Guy looked like he just took a mouthful of skunk water. He just turned back to his beer and refused to speak to me the rest of the time I was in there. Oh well. I don't understand those sorts of folks. I can respect other teams, other players, etc, while still being a loyal fan of my own teams (Maine Black Bears, Alabama, Utah State, and New England). I don't get the chest-thumping, trash-talking, gotta win at all costs. It's like everything about their lives depends upon THAT team.

Anyway, we still talk now, but he's much more reserved. I've moved on, he's still stuck in his bubble.

I have a coworker who is a huge Seahawks fan. Nice gal...been a fan all her life...not a bandwagon fan. I asked her if she was worried about the Pats. She said not at all.

I remember when I thought that way. I couldn't conceive the Pats would ever lose a Superbowl. She just got her bubble burst...just like I did. Someone loses the Superbowl every year.

Seahawk fans were looking right past this game and planning for a 3-peat in SF! Some of them thought that the Patriots were worse than the Broncos and it would show in the final score.

The better team won!

That' guy is pathetic. Some of my best friends are Jets fans.

People should get a life.

How about a used IUD?:)

Keep us in the loop about the doctor.
I thought MDs were trained in science and should know about the Ideal Gas Law.
I guess we engineers are just better educated and smarter after all. :)

Jeez, my best friend is a Steelers fan, and he sent me texts all game talking me off the ledge.

He felt dirty, but he said he owed me when I did the same for Steelers/Cardinals.

Guys like this doctor derive way too much of their self-esteem from the success of a sports team. Eff him.

Unfortunately, most of the Seahawk fans I know are exactly like that.
