Was Goodell at the presentation? hmph, I didn't notice him.... ;)
No kidding. Patrick Swazey in Ghost had more dialogue with humans than Goody last night.

Would like to believe you're right, but it takes 3/4 of the owners to vote to fire him does it not? Sadly, don't see that happening soon.

Never thought RG was really in any trouble even though people keep talking about his demise. But last night - with the comment re : declining an interview...... To fine for not talking to the media and then not being interviewed by your championship game telecast is very bizarre. This telecast is the single craziest money maker they've got.

Goody is stupid. You don't F with a man who is worth $4B. No common sense.

Handed Lombardi Trophy took off fast.

After congratulating "both teams...but especially the Patriots". What a jerkoff. Had to try to minimize the win by talking about both teams before even mentioning NE.

I tell you what -- if I ever hear that Kraft votes to support Goodell on anything ever again, I want Jonathan to have the old man declared incompetent and take over the team.

3/4 to fire him, but he won't get fired. If he's lost the support of the most influential owners, he'll "resign" to save face. They'll brings back Tags as a temporary bridge while they do an exhaustive search for a new commish.

Your words to God's ears!

Goodell got out of there faster than a hit and run driver.

Had 1st ever opportunity to watch the SB with my brother a ******ed, I mean retired wireless company CEO that provided equipment & service to NFL stadia. He said that his people had worked with Jonathan Kraft and were uniformly very impressed with his acumen and capabilities. I had always feared that J was simply a member of the lucky gene pool and had questionable capabilities. I found it reassuring to hear that people who spent considerable time with him felt that he was both smart and a decent person to work with.
DYNASTY

My take is that Goodell has a terrible PR problem, but that the owners like him because he ruthlessly positions the NFL to squeeze every dime it can from the paying public and the player's union.

There's just been such a long list of butt-fumbleesque Goodellisms, despite which he's maintained the notion that his job is anything other than perfectly secure, that it seems to me he knows he's teflon as long as he helps the bottom line growth of the product. There have been lots of times recently that Goodell has neared rock bottom - I guess I don't see how there's any more motive now than there has been.

Goodells problem is he is making himself too important. He acts like he is the single most important person in this game and its constantly biting him in the ass.

"butt-fumbleesque Goodellisms" Brilliant!

Goodell's the guy you want at #2 or #3. He can do the maneuvering and arm twisting, but he needs one, or two, people above him to keep him under control. His problem is that he's a crusading true believer (in the church of Roger Goodell) who thinks he should be #1.

The NFL's problem is that they let him get that #1 job. Now they're riding the tiger.

Sadly, this was the most watched Super Bowl in history. Kraft is 1 of 32 owners, even if he has turned on Rog. For all this clown's talk of integrity of the game, he has been about the money. Despite this bungling, he continues to make the NFL more desirable for its investors and as such the owners.

I fear he will be with us for a while, despite the fact he is the first Commish I have ever wanted to hit the brick and find alternative employment.

Some people are just not cut out to be in top of the heap power positions. He is clearly one of said people.

The NFL should hire an accomplished female executive, with political savvy and a reputation that everyone will be impressed with. She can come in and deal with the domestic abuse stuff firmly and cleanly, and the League will immediately get nine of the ten points back it lost in the poll of public opinion over the past couple of years.

I posted out here last week that Goodell was the Peter Principle incarnate; a guy who was very useful at a lower level, but who was incapable of actually running a multi-billion dollar entertainment enterprise in the context of 24/7 media pressure and scrutiny of a complex group of players.

The NFL is far too polite a society for the owners to actually "fire" Goodell by vote of a super-majority. He is under contract through 2018.

But, it's so clear that he is endangering the value of the brand that the owners will figure a way to get him out. ("endangering" means that he's not adding value to it, not that it isn't growing of its own momentum, with which he has nothing to do).

If you look at the tape of the Trophy presentation, Kraft's gaze is fixed firmly on Goodell and it is "not nice." A friend of mine who worked for a former US President said that the staff described a stare like that from the President as "getting the steely blues" (I don't know the color of Kraft's eyes, but you get the idea). It meant that you were either dead or terminal.

Goodell is "hired help" at a handsome salary. One of the most important guys who pays that salary appears ready to withdraw his support. When that happens, the rest is inevitable.

I don't know how they'll do it, but, unless he mends his fences, Goodell will be gone under very "polite" circumstances well before 2018.

PS Edit: if Jason Chaffetz' proposal gets legs Goodell is toast. Prepare yourself for Commissioner Condoleezza Rice, friend of the Republican Majority.

This was the most watched Super Bowl despite Goodell. The booing by fans to Goodell after the Super Bowl showed everyone what the fans think of Goodell.

This being the most watched Superbowl had absolutely nothing to do with Goodell. It had to do with a stupid scandal that the media decided to make a national story, a bunch of Seahawks bandwagoners and Patriots Hate that has been steaming for years.

The Owners would have to be the dumbest people in the world if they though people watched this game due to the actions of Goodell. It didn't matter who was in charge people were going to watch regardless. There is nothing special Goodell is doing that anyone with his pedigree or better could not do.
