Free Agency and Amendola/Revis Predictions

I feel like the Cowboys will sign Ridley and he'd have a ton of success behind that o-line.

If the Colts are smart, they'll be all over that. Unless they think Richardson is primed for a breakout year.

Mayo traded for a 2nd or a 3rd + 4th
Dennard traded for a 6th/7th
Amendola takes small paycut
Wilfork released

Revis resigned
McCourty resigned
Vereen resigned
Connolly resigned (near vet. min)
Branch resigned (near vet. min)

Casillas walks
Ayers walks
Ridley walks

you're not getting that for mayo or dennard

Dennard. How much can he really be hurting NE cap-wise ? Can't be that significant.

BB loves Mayo. I know he is ruthless when it comes to player personnel, but I'd be surprised if he goes.

Mayo will be staying - he was doing as much coaching last night as the actual coaches. Every sideline shot of the defense Mayo was there with a tablet showing players stuff.

I think Dennard could fetch a 6th or 7th but I think teams will wait; it's pretty clear the Pats will cut him.

As for Mayo, the Demeco Ryans trade is an interesting comparison. He was coming off a bad injury (achilles) was 27 years old (Mayo is 28) and was traded from the Texans to the Eagles for a 4th and a swap of third rounders. I think that's about the best we could hope for if we were to trade Mayo

Which to me says: Don't trade Mayo. People forget how good he was playing now that he has two LBs next to him that are not only competent, but damn good. 6 years of Mayos career was spent him covering up for flawed players like Brandon Spikes and Gary Guyton. Now that Collins can contribute Mayo was free to go on a rampage and rampage he did.

I'm a Mayo fan but unless we're playing a lot of base next year, his cap hit is too big for someone who spends a lot of time on the bench because, let's face it, Hightower and Collins are the future. Having said that, three quality linebackers are better than two - I'm hoping for a renegotiation.

Edit: It should be noted that when Mayo was fit at the start of the year, we did have all three linebackers on the field a lot with Hightower playing SLB/OLB a lot more.

Didn't someone say that Mayo's cap hit makes it hard to cut him?

I'm not sure anyone is going to be all over a RB coming off major knee surgery.

Here is my deal with Mayo:

BACKER
Jamie Collins -- 53 of 53
Dont'a Hightower -- 53 of 53
Akeem Ayers -- 12 of 53

Quick-hit thoughts: In the base defense, which the Patriots used at times when the Seahawks had two tight ends on the field, Ayers got the call as the third off-the-line linebacker over Jonathan Casillas. That was a wrinkle we hadn't seen much of this season, as Ayers' playing time has mostly been as a designated pass-rushing defensive end in sub packages.

Even vs. the best rushing offense in football and a mediocre pass O, we still played nickel about 80% of the time. The nickel CB is the new 11th starter on D in today's NFL.

Which one of 4th year Hightower or 3rd year Collins are you going to bench for Mayo? Neither of course.

Mayo won't take an extreme paycut and why would we pay him even 5 mil + to be a 3rd LB? He can help another team much more than he can help us.

And Hightower was great at it, I'm sure we're going to see that next year imo.

Or our nickel could be a 3-3-5
We don't have 4 good d-linemen, so might as well use 3 good d-line (nink, wilfork, jones) and 3 good linebackers rather than 4-2 nink, wilfork, jones, scrub and collins, hightower

I am very curious about what to do with Mayo and his salary cap. I really like him, but this season made it obvious that he is expandable and that Hightower and Collins are the real deal (Still need depth, IMO).

When he plays, the base defense is better with Mayo than w/o. Hopefully they can workout some kind of lower-base deal with incentives based on playing time (see Vollmer's deal). I don't think it'll be big money as they will not take reps away from Collins and HT in favor of Mayo. They could start putting HT more on the edge and giving Nink a breather...

I feel like Amendola will either take a paycut or walk. He was great in the playoffs, so I'm hoping he sticks and maybe next year he can play like that for the whole season.

I agree

I hate to say it or to think about it, but i don't think Revis will stick around. I really want to be wrong here

Just gotta see how it plays out.

McCourty, Ayers and Vareen will remain here. Ridley won't.

DMC should stay but if hes asking for top dollar there is no chance he stays. 50/50 on everyone else. Ridley would be best served signing a 1 year deal here and compete for a role.

That works on third and 10, but on first and 10, teams would be more than happy to run against that.

I hear the Mayo detractors. I understand the third CB is usually in the game and that HT and Collins are great. But Mayo went down. NE was very fortunate their two main LBs stayed on the field. I know Mayo makes three main LBs. But we lose Collins........ Yikes.

What happened with Dennard? He just disappeared. Did not see too much negative on him from this site.

first, the obvious....address revis, mccourty and gostkowski
then see what can be had for vereen, connolly, branch....try to sign them to a value contract
I'd put something out there for ayers and casillas although not much

contracts to revisit: wilfork, mayo, amendola, solder

I think it's going to be a quiet year in free agency unless they get someone for a lower amount

mayo has made the IR 2 years in a row and has a large contract......I don't think other teams will see that kind of value. I would love for it to happen though

Why would they give up on dennard? He can play.Arrington sucks
