The mediots advocating using a timeout instead of throwing it makes my head hurt. You either run it or throw it. Calling a timeout gains you nothing.

Brady showed class and is showing the NFL what class really is. The NFL needs to take notes and learn from the Patriots.

If you run the ball (into a goaline defense!) on 2nd down and DO NOT GET IT, you must use the last timeout.
In this scenario, you cannot risk running the ball on 3rd down because, if you don't get it, you won't see 4th down

The alternate scenario Carroll chose has a much higher expected value. In this scenario, you throw into the endzone on 2nd. Result should be touchdown or incompletion (obviously this didn't happen). If an incompletion, you can still run on 3rd. Call timeout, and run again on 4th.

Scenario 2 guarantees threes cracks at the end zone (2 of which are running plays) given you don't turn the ball over. Scenario 1 runs the risk of only getting two plays off AND the defense can surmise the 3rd down play is definitely a pass.

No, throwing was a horrible call. Sorry, but given 2 attempts odds were good Lynch would get a yard.

The Seahawks had the upper hand at the end of the game and threw it away. Kudos for the Pats for executing and taking it away, but Seattle put itself in a bad spot.

One of the worst calls of all time would be my vote.

I love how all the media outlets are saying the Pats only one bc a bad play call and acknowledging how Seattle was only near the goal line bc of the luckiest catch ever. Champs make plays.

Good thread. Pete is obviously a really good coach. It'd be pretty easy for a coach to try to distance himself from a call like that. But like a great leader, he owned it. Big props to him. I'm just thankful to whoever decided to throw it there

Lost in this was Butler was making good plays for as long as he was in, including getting away with a trip when he was beat.

Fantastic clutch performance. however, next time he wins the game with a clutch interception he better take a knee in the end zone. We were in real danger until they got the defense to jump and give us 5 yards breathing room.

Eh, maybe he couldn't take a knee, but i think so.

That was the toughest football game I have seen since last years San Fran Seattle championship game. Not many teams can play as hard as both teams did today.
