Goodell press conference

I sure hope you're right. This Deflategate garbage, combined with some life stuff, has shaken a few core beliefs and hopes and made me very down until the last couple days. The flu didn't help either.
The cumulative damage caused by our illusions far outweighs the temporary discomfort of realizing you were wrong. It's almost like the pain of a firm massage. When you are tight, it hurts a lot, but is totally worth it. The more frequently you get massages, the less it will hurt as the muscles don't get an opportunity to get so tense.

Keep your head up and don't stop moving forward. As long as you live, life will continue to punch you. Don't let those punches obscure all of the great an beautiful things the world has to offer.

For the last week and a half ive been wondering why goodell was silent and letting the patriots twist in the wind, why he would alienate hid good friend and maybe the most powerful owner in the game and listening to this speech i finally came to the conclusion that goodells throwing kraft and the pats under the but to regain the Integrity he lost in the ray rice debacle. He mention "integrity" at least eight times in that speech 'you know i want to up-hold the integrity of the game' he wants to show by coming down hard on the patriots (which most of the country hate out of envy) that he has integrity, hes not going to let his friendship with bob kraft influence his decision, he (goodell) won't let any team get away from flaunting the rules and staining the shield. So expect some kind of punishment even if they can't find anything. And if they do find something it will be some sort of drastic sanctions against the patriots. Like Patfanken said this is going to be a war between goodell, Irsaya and maybe a few other owners and Bob Kraft and the Patriots.

I think it is REALLY interesting that Bob Kraft did not attend the conference, yet he always did in the past. I guess you could argue that he thought his presence there would be a major distraction given the questions that were going to be asked. But he also had to know how it would be spun in the press. Rift between Kraft and Goodell! That can only make Goodell feel better about his public image as Kraft's BFF though.

Simple. They were instructed not to.

Even simpler -- Goodell simply didn't call on people he figured wouldn't give him softballs (though he had to make it look like it wasn't a total bag job by calling on a couple of people who might challenge him, like Reiss and Rachel Nichols. Though I wish Reiss had asked about leaks instead (but it was useful to get Goodell on the record as saying he had no idea if balls had ever been checked during a game before this)).

Maybe a combination of the two ;)

In case you didn't see CSN last night Curran mentioned this and thought Kraft missed the conference because of a rift that has formed over the last two weeks. He also said that Kraft will never forget this, and neither will Jonathan. But that Jonathan would actually do something about it if he has a chance, unlike his father.

You sound alot like a dear friend of mine :) I recently realized that even if the absolute worst thing I could imagine about reality were true, my getting down about it and oozing that toxicity onto others would only serve to double down on it. It'd be a bit like joining an organization I vehemently disagreed with. Better to fight the good fight even if I were doomed to lose, eh?

Watching the press conference, it is apparent that most of the "pundit reporters" view the Patriots as cheaters and already guilty and want Goodell to punish them "with extreme prejudice".

Agree, Jon's reputation is that he can be quite an SOB, way more than his dad. The Kraft's M.O. seems to be to settle scores behind the scenes; just ask former network rising star broadcaster Sean McDonough, now languishing on BSPN's third tier.

Ignore them. They're nothing but malicious gossips who, together, couldn't summon enough intellect to come to grips with the physical explanation for what happened. They can't understand it so it is not allowed to be part of their reality (like the adults speaking in Charlie Brown cartoons). Since it can't be admitted into their reality it doesn't count as evidence, so - "foul play".

Goodell's a crusader, and a true believer, and that makes for a terrible fit as the #1 guy in the NFL. That problem becomes abundantly clear when he speaks.

Absolutely correct, sir This is entirely a witch hunt concocted by Goodell and his stooges who have had an agenda against the Pats snce their affiliation with the Jets. The BS was started with Goodell's media buddies to divert attention from his ongoing incompetence with Ricegate, the players conduct issues and the Jets tampering. The Pats were already a perfect target after the cameragate debacle stained their reputation. I don't if he thought Kraft would roll over again like in 2007 for the good of the league but regardless of what Kraft does, their will be punishment for the Pats. The real shame is that it took this long for Kraft to realize what a POS the man he has supportedis, long after most people on this site and BB saw through his BS. Maybe now Kraft knows who the real schmuck is.

I think godell is a true believer all right, in money, his Job pays him Lots of it and he wants to keep his job at all costs.

It really was pathetic. The NFL'S face of the league can't go through a short prepared statement without tripping over his own words repeatedly?

Clown.

And the tampering charges were not trumped up either….it is 100% by the book tampering. But we are not allowed to do anything about it without stirring up a ****storm, apparently.

It's going to be very interesting how they handle the tampering going forward.

For me the funniest line from yesterdays PC
..“We have rules,” “We’re a league of rules.” insisted Dean Wormer... oops i mean Rodger Goodell.

So if I understood Goodell correctly, all a team needs to do is accuse the Pats of some form of cheating and Goodell will punish the Pats to maintain the "integrity" of the game, no matter the merits of the claim. Seems like Goodell just declared open season on the Pats.

I'd like to hear that. what happened?

Especially if the Pats have the audacity to accuse Goodell's beloved Jets of Tampering. Too bad it took Kraft seven years of being a pacifist in the war against the Pats to realize who the enemy really was.
