Not to be sexist but, is Sherman's wife being pregnant really an issue?

Is there really a possibility that Sherman will skip the Super Bowl if his wife delivers? I mean, its not like he's pregnant. Carroll played it off well, saying family decision and he's looking forward to meeting "little Petey" (big laughs).

If I'm wrong, just pile on old insensitive me. I work in a small office with all women, so I'm used to it.:)

No way he's missing this game. But I do think it will be a distraction. not to mention his injury hindering him

There's already another thread on this. But to answer your question, she's only a girlfriend of Shermdick so he most likely will blow her off if push comes to shove (no pun intended).

Didn't see the thread

I hope she start having contractions about 16 hours from now. She starts really feeling it about 6 hours before game time. She starts screaming his name"****!""****!""****!""****!""****!""****!""****!""****!""****!" -(lol) he succumbs to the pressure of new fatherhood...leaves the SB - PATS WIN!!!

Interesting though, to think he'd sit out SB. I don't think he will.

Some buffoon on NFLN actually summed it up pretty well:

Obviously it's one of the most important days of his life. But while he has a whole lifetime to raise that child, he only has one opportunity to win this Super Bowl.

Worst storyline of SB. Ok, maybe second worst.

It is important, but not when you only consider "will Sherman play Sunday".

Im just shocked that Sherman is actually into girls. With his dreads he's always come across as a more feminine Whoopi Goldberg!

Okay, let me put on my tinfoil hat for a moment. :)

Considering Carrol's comments (I watched it live on NFLN) it seems to me that this might be an excellent way to cover for Sherman if his injuries are really more extensive than reported. He was in some serious distress during the NFCCG, and if the damage is more extensive, more limiting, would it be better to have to sit him down prior to the game, or to have him suddenly decide he "needs to be there" when his child is born?

I mean, what it does is allow the Seahawks to save face and have an excuse for losing, while at the same time not having to play him and risk more extensive, or even permanent injuries.

I see him playing in the game, but I do think he's worse off than we're being led to believe. I'm just posting this to play devil's advocate here.

Just imagine if they had the doctor induce labor to complete the charade. :D

Carrol pulled all sorts of shennanigans while at USC. It's why he beat feet out of there before he was sanctioned. Carrol has some good football smarts, but he has always been, and still is, all about Pete Carrol first, last, and always.

I don't think so. **** Sherman is playing in this Superbowl regardless of whether his wife goes into labor or not.

That's just Sherman marketing his brand again...drawing attention to himself.

Overblown story. He's playing.

There is no way this guy is missing this game. Just another way to grab headlines and for Sherman to mold his image as someone who says unpredictable things.

Sherman is trying to make himself look like the good guy who cares about women, etc.

This is just additional narrative for the media, who have been trying to build Seattle up to be the hero and the Patriots to be the villain in this game. They write articles about how Seattle has a better personality, are more "loose", have an amazing defense and have hammered home the "injuries" to Seattle's secondary.

Now its a focus on Sherman's girlfriend having a baby, just another reason to sympathize and root for the Seahawks... the good guys.. because.. Think of the children! So much adversity that he has to face in deciding whether to play in the Super Bowl or witness the birth of his son! Oh the horror! How does he manage to make it through the day with those decisions looming over him like a dark cloud!?

Meanwhile, in Mount Doom, Belichick and the Patriots have stomped 10 more kittens to death as they do their standard, pre-game cult rituals.

The injury thing is making me puke.. 1st day of media day, Earl Thomas in a quick snippet for the troops says "Hey troops, im all banged up.. probably like you guys.. but thats what we do, we just gotta keep going". Literally the first thing out of his mouth was that, practically verbatum.

They're trying to build up this heroic image of themselves and the media is fueling it because they have their story either way... If the Seahawks win, its because they're so amazing and overcame such incredible adversity to defeat the horrifyingly evil Patriots! If the Patriots win, it will be because they cheated in the AFCCG with deflated footballs and took advantage of an injured Seahawks secondary, and their Lombardi should have an asterisk stamped into it bigger than the NFL logo

TL;DR No one gives a flying %@#! about Sherman's prego girlfriend.
