(Post Edit): Breaking: NFL Ref's Press Conference Just Blew Deflategate To Pieces!!!!!!

Nobody (aside from PFT and Simmons above) is even covering this. If they had said they checked the balls with gauges and logged their results this would have led the National newscasts.

The ball boys' entire job is to carry the footballs from the ref's locker to the field and up and down both sidelines, handing them out to the refs when called upon. Of course, the refs turn over the balls to the ball boys. That's what the ball boys are there for.... :)
The refs are supposed to hand the balls over to an NFL ball attendant, not a team ball boy. Either the refs did, and the Pats are off the hook entirely, or they didn't, and it's another ref screwup.

I can't believe no one has confirmed who this dude is yet.

This pre-Superbowl period felt the most unlike a pre-Superbowl period as I can remember. We should have been partying and enjoying the anticipation of a well-earned Superbowl appearance, but I find myself having to remind myself regularly that we are playing the SB this Sunday.

The Pats had their party interrupted by a full frontal assault seemingly right after the AFCCG ended.

And Bob Kraft should never forgive that. Never.

Anyway this could have been such a great 2 weeks for Pats fans. And some scum wanted to ruin it for us. Couldn't even enjoy win over colts Monday morning. :(

We'll get to relive it this fall, though, for Hammer-Nail, er Brady-Luck V. :D

More weasel language from the NFL:

BALL ATTENDANT = BALL BOY

There's no such thing as a TEAM BALL BOY. There is a group of ball boys that work on both sides of the field, paid by the NFL. I think there are six. Four are selected by the home team. Two are selected by and travel with the visiting team.

The guy who took the balls with him to take a whiz had the 12 Pats game balls and the 12 Colts game balls with him. Just as the ball boys on the two sidelines handle both teams' game balls during the game. We don't know if the kid carrying the balls to the field was one of the ball boys selected by the Pats or one travelling with the Colts.

And, the pressure before the game and at halftime was?

Well, judging by their stance and comments, the pressure before the game was within the acceptable range of 12.5 to 13.5.

We don't know what the halftime readings were, since they haven't made any comments regarding that issue.

The blame shouldn't be on Anderson.

It should be on the league officials who didn't give a crap initially to put in place a standard operating procedure about logging the PSi measures of the footballs, then hypocritically turn around and act as if this issue deserves the modern equivalent of the Warren Commission to penalize the New England Patriots.

Couldn't agree more, shmessy.

I agree with your premise. But on the other hand, there is no reason to distrust Brady or even Belichick. When everything happened back in 2007, Belichick didn't deny or hide anything and was truthful. So why trust one guy over the other? They are all trying to cover their own behinds. What this does mean, however, is that there is really only circumstantial evidence, and there likely won't be any conclusive evidence going against the Patriots. Kraft made it clear that he was not going to stand for a speculative judgment by the NFL that the Patriots circumvented the rulebook.

This isn't about trusting one party over the other for me. I definitely trust both BB and Brady.

My comments were simply about not being quite sure that I'd want to blame the refs.

Anyone have a link to where its reported that the 1/2 time #'s were not logged?

I don't believe that halftime has ever been addressed, just the fact that the pre-game readings were tested but not documented or logged (which makes sense, b/c--why would they suddenly decide to do that?).

No,team has ever been punished for ball PSI during any NFL game. If a ball is low they just put air in and if it's high they just let some out.

Yup.

The refs and the Patriots are really just pawns in the game of the NFL empty suits arbitrarily turning on a dime and making something they obviously couldn't care less about 2 weeks ago suddenly a national security-level importance, once the Colts complained.

But this has no bearing on the very specific numbers quoted by the press. They were specific about the PSI loss, that's part of the problem. They pretended to have numbers that they clearly haven't got. First it was a 2 PSI drop from the original test. Then it was a 1 PSI drop from the original test. Now it will be a 1 PSI drop from the low water mark? See, this is starting to really lose credit.

Additionally, if we don't know the baseline for the Colt's footballs, we cannot be sure they did not exhibit a drop in PSI. If they were accepted at 13.5 and dropped to 12.5, then it would be a drop by 1 PSI. But not if that 13.5 number wasn't recorded. Then it would be 12.5 - 12.5 = 0.

Yes, this may be the case. There will always be the hater squad who refuses to accept the truth. However that may not direct the course of the NFL's finger waggers. We will have to wait and see on that one.

You've been very level headed and open throughout this whole thing, so kudos for that.

My comments about not blaming the refs and disputing the notion that the balls' PSI were not measured will not come off as a popular stance since I am openly questioning facts instead of waving pom poms, but I'm simply trying to get to the bottom of it.

At the end of the day I truly and honestly believe that neither TFB or BB have done anything wrong, but I'm still leery about the way that the NFL has handled everything, which may point to them having an agenda that is concerning to me.
